Done. I'm done with Elementary. Not only has it become exceedingly boring this season, it downright annoys the heck outta me. Joan turned into a Wonder Woman slash Mary Sue who is perfect at everything and never, ever fucks up. Three seasons in, Sherlock is still an arrogant, pompous, selfish dick who deserves a kick in the balls on a regular basis. And now Kitty is the residential raped woman, because, of course, the only way to empower a woman is through a brutal rape. Well done, Elementary, well done. In this latest episode, the most interesting bit was Clyde chomping on a piece of lettuce. And that's saying something.

Also, did you see how godawful the ratings are? I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the show can go and screw a donkey for what I care. It's getting 1.0 demo! That's SPN's numbers! Embarrassing. From what I hear, CBS closed a syndication deal on the show but I bet they are now kicking themselves in the arse for that because with those ratings? They're losing money big time on that piece of crap.

Shows dropped this season: Gotham, Sleepy Hollows, The Leftovers, The Mysteries of Laura, Stalker, Constantine, NCIS:LA, Elementary.

Caught up on many shows yesterday, like Elementary 303, Haven 510, Scorpion 108 and The Blacklist 205-208. Nothing really stood out for me, though, at least not in a positive way. But there were many things that irked me.

Like, for example, in Haven: did Duke really just spoilers! ) Or in Scorpion: spoilers! )

But what really took the top was Elementary and the road they took with Kitty and her past. Are you fucking kidding me? Spoilers! ) This made me so very, very angry! I can't help but thinking that the writers have a bucket list of social issues and tick them off, saying, "Okay, we covered drug addiction (S1) and addictions in general (S2). What now? How about spoilers )?" FUCK. IT. I'm already annoyed by this season, by Sherlock's attitude towards Kitty and his colleagues - basically anyone but Joan who has a rainbow shooting outta her ass, apparently! - and if this trend continues, I will drop it. The show's been nothing short of bad this season and the ratings reflect that: the latest episode earned 1.0 demo, that's SPN's ratings! I will give it one more episode but if it annoys me again, I will drop the show, I really don't need to feel this irritated week after week.

Constantine 102+103: Ep 1 was good. Eps 2 and 3? Not so much. Pretty much what Supernatural had done 10 years ago. It exudes a feeling of "been there, done that." And I know that the Constantine comic book predates SPN. It doesn't matter. Everything this show's doing right now, SPN has already done 3 or 4 times on TV. I will continue watching it but I get why the ratings are so very low (1.0 demo last week).

Elementary 301+302: I have a problem with this series that's getting more and more pronounced as it continues: Joan doesn't need Sherlock. She has never needed him in any way or shape or form. I think it all started at the beginning, when he wasn't anything but a client for her, she was paid to be there. She didn't need anything from him. And even now, she doesn't need his friendship, his advice or his company, she made that known loud and clear. There's no give-n-take in their relationship. Joan has become a Watson-Sherlock amalgam and Sherlock's literally not needed anymore because she's now the doctor AND the detective. Sherlock has become redundant. It makes me wonder why they hadn't simply cast Lucy Liu as a Shirley Joan Holmes-Watson outright. Because that's what she is. Also, I feel sorry for Kitty. She's the painful fifth wheel. Sherlock's treating her the same way 10 treated Martha - by endlessly reminding her she's the "lesser" model by shoving the "perfect" model down her throat at every opportunity. No wonder the show's tanking in the ratings this season.

NCIS:LA 606: Another episode in which nothing at all made sense, Callen behaved deranged and OOC and Kensi and Deeks seemed to be on a completely different show. Are the writers even trying these days?

Scorpion 107: I know that many people are put off by Walter's stand-offish attitude but that's exactly why I love him. He isn't aloof to be an asshole, that's simply how his experience molded him. In this episode, you could see spoilers! ) And that's why I like Walter so much!

I have a really strange relationship with Elementary. You see, I love the characters, I don't think they are in any way or shape or form similar to Doyle's creations, but I love them anyway. And I love their cases. I love the tiny details that we learn about Sherlock and Joan in every episode...

But when it comes to long-term arcs? I HATE THEM! I didn't like Irene Adler when she was still Irene Adler, the whole search for her killer, and I didn't like the Moriarty reveal. I downright hated Moran and his storyline. And Mycroft... I love that he loves his brother but there's absolutely none of the brilliance that should be there, that makes up Mycroft's character in the books. He's a well-meaning bum.

And then there was the end-of-the-season arc... )

Lotsa TV!

Diagnosis: Murder 301-308: The best ep yet was 307, the one where Steve's girlfriend turned out to be a mass murderer and she blinded Steve temporarily. I loved Steve's scenes with his dad in the hospital, when Mark admitted he didn't know what he would do if something ever happened to Steve. Aww... Dick and Barry Van Dyke are great in these scenes!

Doctor Who 401: OMG, the scene where the Doctor and Donna met again was HILARIOUS! I LOL'd so hard! Also, I really adore Donna's grandfather. But yet again, Donna's mother is a bitch. What is it with RTD and harpies for mothers?

Elementary 101-105: I started watching it from the beginning again. And once I dropped any illusions of this being an actual Sherlock Holmes series - all the characters share with their book counterparts are their names - I started to really enjoying it. The cases are quite interesting, more interesting than the actual arc, to be honest, and I love the friendship between Sherlock and Joan.

Person of Interest 111: This was such a domestic episode. And the cushion! The cushion was hilarious. Loved the very first scene in this episode. Finch knew something like that could happen and he had a back-up plan.

Warehouse 13 401-402: The warehouse and Jinksy are saved! And Claudie rocks like a rocking thing. I loved her scenes with Steve, when she brought him back, when she refused to apologize for bringing him back, that was beautiful. But one thing I don't get: why didn't HG use her shield thing to trap the bomb inside? It withstood the blast from without, so why not from within?
katikat: (S_Elementary)
I still need to catch up on this show but I stumbled across this spoiler for S3 and... well, honestly? I'm not sure what to think of it. Right now, I'm glad I'm not fannishly obsessed with this show, that's for sure.

Spoiler cut! )

○ CBS renewed 18 shows for 2014-2015: link. Among them NCIS, NCIS:LA, Criminal Minds, CSI, Elementary, Hawaii 5-0 and Person of Interest. The Big Bang Theory was picked up for 3 seasons! No news about The Mentalist, though, even though it's been beating The Good Wife in the ratings every Sunday. Grr!

○ Apparently, Captain America 3 will go head to head with Batman/Superman on May 6, 2016: link. Sheesh, that will be a massacre!

○ Syfy is planning a limited, six hour long space opera series called Ascension, "a thriller about a murder aboard a 100-year voyage from Earth": link.

Agents of SHIELD 101. Why is it so bland? )

Brooklyn Nine Nine 109. I really like Peralta when he gets serious. )

Elementary 209. Thank you for proving that Sherlock, any Sherlock out there, is NOT a pleasant man! )

Supernatural 906-907. I've always defended Dean but right now? He's being an ass! )

I'm also downloading TVD again but it's mostly going like this, blahblahblahblah-JEREMY&BONNIE-blahblahblah-JEREMY&BONNIE-blah for me. Yes, Jeremy and Bonnie are my reason to watch it. They are such an incredibly hot couple. There's something about them... *_* Hopefully, the writers don't break them up again. That would piss me off, really!
katikat: (S_Haven)
Brooklyn Nine-Nine 101-107. Painful first episode but the characters grow on you with time. )

Elementary 201. I wish Sherlock would stop grimacing all the time, he looks like an asylum escapee. )

Haven 409. My least favorite ep of the season. )

Since our National Bank in its epic wisdom artificially lowered the value of our koruna, I won't be buying as many shows on DVD as I planned. It's back to downloading, I guess. Which is why I started watching Elementary and why I will try to catch up on Grimm and Warehouse 13; I planned to get them on DVD - and I still do, because I prefer to support my shows, but not ASAP anymore. I will now wait for the shows to drop below Ł10. With the current exchange rate I can't afford a higher price.
katikat: (S_Elementary)
I finally, finally caught up. Go me.

And although I promised myself not to compare Elementary to Sherlock, I have to make one observation... )

And I'm done with Elementary till the fall!
katikat: (S_Elementary)
Occupation: Consulting Detective )

I'm loving these "case of the week" episodes. I actually don't want to go back to the seasonal arc, I love the little character moments that one can find in a COTW episodes here which is pretty much the opposite of what I prefer in other shows, there I'm mostly interested in the over-arching story.
katikat: (S_Elementary)
Could've been a knife! )

You know, taking a break from this show did me a world of good. I'm actually loving it now. Before, I just liked it. Maybe because so many other shows disappointed me this season? Or maybe the show itself hit its stride? Who knows.
katikat: (S_Mentalist)
My opinion on the backdoor pilot! )

CBS renewed 14 shows today! Among them: NCIS: LA, Hawaii 5-0, The Mentalist, Elementary, Good Wife and Person of Interest: source. This time around, the only show I feared for was The Mentalist. Since the move to Sunday, the ratings dropped like a stone. So, YAY!
katikat: (S_Elementary)
110 )

111 )

112 )

And I'm all caught up. Now I'll start gathering eps again for another marathon once the season ends. Overall, I like the show and I like the friendship between Sherlock and Joan. On the other hand, it's just another procedural a la Monk or The Mentalist about a male genius with issues and his female nanny. Based on all the hype, I expected more.
