HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

katikat: (Actors_RachelWeisz2)
I'm not even American and I'm almost hysterically happy that Obama won. Don't get me wrong, he disappointed me in so many ways, he didn't fulfill so many of his promises and I guess I'm not the only one who expected much more from him - maybe too much? - but! I did not want to see Mitt Romney in the White House, a man who's so anti-gay, anti-women, anti-equality of any kind, a man who became the laughing stock of half of Europe when he came over during his presidential campaign because he had no idea whatsoever what he was talking about... If nothing else, I consider Barack Obama the lesser of two evils, so to speak. And his speeches about women's rights and marriage equality made me proud of him, so... Yeah, this whole thing was not at all about me and I couldn't do anything to influence it in any way but it still made me insanely happy to see that Romney prick booted out!

And talking about equality and stuff - Jared Leto is returning back to film! Acording to THR, he'll play a "flamboyant cross-dresser" in the upcoming film Dallas Buyer’s Club: link.

Inspired by real events, the story centers on Ron Woodroof (Matthew McConaughey), a Texas electrician diagnosed with AIDS and given six months to live, who began smuggling alternative drugs into the U.S. to help himself and other AIDS patients. He added years to his life but rushed headfirst into a collision course with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which was bent on keeping the drugs out of the country.

In a potentially standout role, Leto would play a flamboyant cross-dresser with HIV who helps Woodroof.

The subject might not be my cuppa but I bet he'll be great. I loved him, LOVED HIM as Hephaistion in Alexander, he and his relationship with Alexander were the best parts of the movie. Leto's chemistry with Colin Farrell was simply stunning. Their scenes together are the only thing I watch whenever I put this movie on, everything else I skip.

Flist cut!

I did a little flist cut, approximately 10 people who either a) haven't posted anything in months and their LJ seems abandoned, b) never friended me back or c) with whom I haven't talked or shared anything in months. No hard feelings, folks, no offense, we just seem to be worlds apart...

Also, I bought a new cellphone today, the cheapest in the store, Nokia 100 Phantom Black, it cost me just Kc650! But it makes me so happy. It's a sweet little thing that does exactly what I want it to: lets me call people and send SMS, that's all I need considering I work from home and am at the computer 7 days a week.

My old cellphone, Siemens CT70, has served me faithfully for 7 years, I love it and it's still working flawlessly - just the battery is draining way too fast, I had to keep charging it every other day. And since the phone's so old, a new battery isn't available anymore... Well, I will keep it as my emergency phone, just in case my or my mum's cellphone goes haywire.

Michael Fassbender was attached to Guy Ritchie's Excalibur before it was canned? And he should've been in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy but had to drop out because of X-Men First Class? (Tom Hardy took over his part, BTW.) Well, I would've loved to see him in TTSS, but thank you, thank you, thank you, Mr. Fassbender for sticking to XMFC. I'm certain that TTSS will be fantastic, but XMFC wouldn't have been the same without the amazing chemistry between you and James McAvoy!

Well, the heavy rains of the previous few days did a number on our house. Large parts of the south facade simply fell off. Yesterday morning, the facade was okay, then I come back from meeting my boss and... It had to have just dropped off during the morning when I was gone. I've been trying to get in touch with the mason who worked on the west part of our house - he did a really great job there - but so far, no luck *sigh*

According to Cinemaspy, SyFy is considering dropping the BSG: Blood&Chrome project. Are they for real? I mean, I've been defending SyFy and its decisions for years but this? They really are moving more and more away from their roots!

White Collar S3's cast and crew photo here. Wow, that's a lot of people! O.o

BBC ordered S3 of Luther: link.

Well, Jason Momoa's Conan the Barbarian definitely won't pay off - after 10 days, it earned only $22 mil. worldwide. It's too bad. I hoped for a better outing for him in the "big league" :(

Yesterday, I bumped into a traffic sign with my car. I literally just scraped it with the right fender - hey, I was going 10km/h at that time! - unfortunately, the front part of the fender was obviously rusted through under the paint and now there's a fist sized hole in it *sigh* Luckily, my mechanic promised to do something about it next week. Until then, I should put a bandage on it - he really said that XD - to cover the sharp edges. Our car is 24 years old and the rusted fenders are the only thing that's wrong with it. I want to keep mah baby! *pets her car*

Now that White Collar ended for the summer/year, I need to catch up on it. I have... 5? 6? eps to watch. I just couldn't scrape any enthusiasm to watch it till now. I hear the mid-season finale is good? No spoilers, though!

Last night, I watched ep 101 of NCIS:LA with the audio commentary by Shane Brennan. Man, he's such an LL Cool J fan! And then I watched the various promos CBS put together for the show - there were some I haven't seen before - and the song vid to which LL Cool J wrote the music (so many Sam&Callen soul gazing scenes XP). Man, Sam and LL are two completely different persons! I wouldn't have almost recognized him - well, except for the height and the muscles, that is! XD And it's great to watch LL fanboy about his own show. It's sweet. This is the reason why I prefer NCIS:LA to H50 because on NCIS:LA, everybody - from Linda Hunt to Eric Christian Olsen - genuinely enjoys the show and is not afraid to show it.

So, these last two months we had to replace the radiators in our house (40k) and the couch, eaten by woodworms (6k) and the roof on the garage (20k) and now? The frickin' refrigerator! Another 6k! Do I look like I grow money in the backyard? Do I, life? *sigh* I see some creative financial juggling in my near future.

And if that weren't enough, my boss just pinged me on Skype, telling me he needed me to drop everything and start working on a book the previous translator screwed up so thoroughly that the whole translation needed to be tossed. And he needs it ASAP because the book's already been advertised. The frickin' book has over 400 pages! I love my boss, I really do, he's an awesome guy, but sometimes I feel like I'm the only translator working for him *head/desk*

And back!

OMGSOTIRED! But we now have new radiators in the house. The plumber needs to do some finishing touches tomorrow but that should be it. I spent the last three days doing nothing but cleaning, seriously. My hands are all read, rough and hurting. Ouch!

And tomorrow is my great-aunt's (great-cousin? O.o) funeral. Well, I didn't know her all that well - actually, at all - but we still need to attend *sigh*

And my bank account's so distressingly empty that I had to cancel my plans to attend the JiB con in Rome next year. No way in hell do I have €419 for the Angel Pass - and no other pass is worth buying if you want to actually enjoy the con.

Dead. On. My. Feet *yawns*

... I will have a very limited access to my computer and the internet in general because of some major reconstruction that are being done on our house. If everything goes according to plan, I'll see you all on Friday *waves*

I don't know what to say. What would be the proper words to describe the magnitude of devastation that's happening right now? Every time I see the huge black wave carrying debris and sweeping through the country, I get the shakes. I just pray that there aren't too many lives lost...

More books

I have had a headache the whole day long. And I'm talking nausea inducing headache. In the end, I just had to pop an Ibuprofen, I just couldn't take it anymore when not even a nap helped. It's so gooooood to be pain free...

And more books, pictures cut! )

Šťastný a veselý Nový rok! As we say in Czech :)

Took a pic of my 2011 calendar! )

My internet connection has been slightly wonky today, so I decided to post my New Year's resolution(s) early, just to be sure it gets posted AT ALL.

Last year, my resolution was rather simple: comment on every fic that I actually liked, even just to say "Thank you." And I kept it. Every fic that I found worth rec'ing and bookmarking, got a comment from me. I hope to keep it up next year too.

So, this year? My New Year's resolution is book related: to cut my to-read lists of books and manga on GR in half, to make a real dent in them. Right now, my to-read shelf lists 188 books, my to-read-manga shelf then 46. Which means, I hope that by the end of 2011, the former will be down to at least 100, the latter to 20. We'll see...

And what am I looking forward to on the fannish front next year? Fast Five, another Dom and Brian adventure in the cinema. Mark Del Franco's next book in his "Connor Grey" series. USA Network's Common Law which I really, really, REALLY hope gets a series pick-up (come on, Michael Ealy and Warren Kole as cop partners sent to couple's therapy for disliking each other!).

So, what about you? What do you look forward to on the fannish front next year?

I really love having a digital camera \o/

And took first pictures. Nothing much, I need to learn how to use the camera first.

Our dog Rex, The Birds and first snow... )

ETA: I always forget - my favorite Czech song at the moment: Jaromír Nohavica - Divoké koně (Wild Horses). Listen to it, peeps, it's beautiful!

Ehm

Today is my name-day - my RL name's Kateřina - so I bought a gift for myself: a digital camera, OLYMPUS FE 47 Silver. Yup, until now, I've lived without a digital camera. Don't ask me how, but it was getting mighty inconvenient, let me tell you, and since I'm going to...

Well, I hope I won't jinx it by saying it aloud: I'm going to the Supernatural con Jus in Bello in Rome next year. Awesome guests were announced: Jared and Jensen and Misha, Mark A. Sheppard and Richard Speight Jr. - and Eric Kripke! And Steve Carlson :) I bought the Angel Pass, which allows me to attend basically everything. I hope that at least some of the guests arrive *crosses fingers tight*

But back to my camera. I promised myself that from now on, I won't buy anything till Xmas. Well, should the offer be too good to resist... Ehm. And I still want to buy my mum Iron Man 2, The A Team and Inception on DVD for Xmas, she loves movies like that. I bet she'll adore the new A Team!

How do I deal with bad/painful/embarrassing memories? When they start to overwhelm me - and I'm one of those people who just can't stop poking at sores - I imagine myself standing in a room, I'm on one side, my memories on the other - and then I draw a curtain between us. The curtain is heavy, made of red velvet, it's soft and warm to the touch - and as long as it's between me and my memories, they can't touch me. They are still there and I'm aware of them, but they can't reach me. I don't know if it's a healthy way, to deal with bad stuff that way, but so far, it's been working for me...

Some people still mistake being alone for being lonely. As mind-boggling as it sounds, some of us do prefer it. In many cases, it's a lifestyle choice, not a disease that needs to be cured. And I really hate it when people make it sound like there's something wrong with me because I don't want a husband and a brood of kids.

* I just joined [livejournal.com profile] ncisla_exchange. Well, it'll be either fun or horrible *shrugs* I'm willing to write gen or Sam/G (Gibbs/G) slash, but that's it.

* I'm now the proud owner of Fringe S1 on DVD. The box is really purty, I must say.

* OMG, I'm so tired I could weep. But at least our apple trees are now pruned.
