Last night, I was reading in bed, with my tablet in night mode, so the whole room was utterly dark... When I felt something tickle my ear. I thought it was just my hair, shifting down the pillow, but I slapped at it anyway - it was a HUGE ASS SPIDER! I splattered it all over the pillow and my ear and down my neck, I had the smashed body and its deep-red, hairy legs all over my hand! And the frickin' thing was still twitching! And then my ear and neck and fingers started tingling. I have no idea what that beast was, but I had to change my pillow and go wash thoroughly...

Good God, I was so scared I couldn't fall asleep for a good hour after that! O.O That's like my worst nightmare, that a spider will drop down onto my pillow while I will be sleeping!

Oh, God, Hollywood, please, stop with this insanity!

CBS is planning a reimagining of Charmed: link. Yes, not a reBOOT nor a reMAKE but a reIMAGINING. God knows what that means. I bet they will either try to make it all hip a la the flopped Charlie's Angels reboot or more PC correct than the old show. Because, you know, it's easier to take existing material and just change the characters' gender or whatever than to actually come up with something new and original.

And speaking of that, NBC is planning a reboot of Murder, She Wrote staring Octavia Spencer: link. But hear this, the character won't be a bestselling novelist but a hospital administrator who self-published one mystery novel and now tries to insert herself into various police investigations *head/desk* Murder, She Wrote, meet Diagnosis: Murder! Because when a remake is not enough, smoosh two old shows together, why don't you!

Not enough insanity? Fox is planning a Broadchurch remake - starring the UK version's David Tennant! Link. Because, you know, the British are a completely alien species that Americans just can't connect with on any level - or whatever the explanation for this piece of craziness is. They take the UK script and the UK actor and just transplant it to the US of A.

For cryin' out loud!

Sorry for grumbling like Debbie Downer but I seem to have landed my ass in a funk again. So many shows to watch, so many movies to watch - and I just can't find the energy or will. I start watching something and then drop it, I start reading stuff and drop it... I hate it when these funks happen to me because all I can do is wait them out *unhappy sigh*
katikat: (S_Bedlam)
So, LJ is taking away our ability to customize flists, right? Well, now the Russians plan to get rid of paid accounts: link. "By the way, soon we will cancel the paid accounts." And LJ being a Russian company now, what the Russians do? Is forced on everybody soon after. No, just no.

Please, friends, I implore you, switch over to DW and friend me over there - [personal profile] katikat - I can't deal with this fuckery anymore and you're the only reason why I still visit here, I don't want to lose you.
katikat: (S_Bedlam)
They want to take away the customized flist option, it'll now be called a "feed" and everyone will have the same blue-and-white infinite scroll, you won't be able to opt out of it. Aparently, they want to be more like Tumblr. For more, go here, with caps of what the flist will look like in the future: link.

I can't even imagine not having a customized flist, that's where I spent most of my time on LJ! I don't want an infinite scroll. I hate infinite scrolling! If it goes live, I guess I will be spending even less time on LJ than I already do! Luckily, I x-post through DW anyway so a complete move to over there wouldn't be a problem.

So, it's been splashed all over the media that Kristen Stewart cheated on her BF with the - married! - SWATH director Rupert Sanders. And the result is? Universal dropped Kristen Stewart from the SWATH sequel but Sanders might still direct it! Source. And not just that, Universal broke all ties with Stewart but just bought another stuff for Sanders to direct, the book "90 Church", as Deadline reports (sorry, LJ doesn't allow linking to Deadline's articles)!

Are they for real?! As actors like Sophia Bush and Clark Gregg posted on Twitter, this stinks of double standards and misogyny to the high heaven! So, a woman and a man cheat on their partners and the woman loses her job and the man not only keeps it but gets a reward? What the fuckity fuck! I hate, hate, HATE cheaters but this is taking it a dozens steps too far! Convicted felons get hired in Hollywood and Kristen Stewart is dropped because she cheated on her BF?! I didn't see anyone dropping Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp over the same thing and their latest movies earned less than Stewart's! I'm literally seeing red now.

Now they want to turn the sequel into a spin-off, focusing on the Huntsman. I did like Chris Hemsworth in that part but for me, the movie was so good because of BOTH, Snow and the Huntsman! They were amazing in their roles - which I couldn't say about the directing because one of the movie's problems was the pacing. And instead of fixing that by hiring a new director, they drop the movie's star... My excitement for the sequel-now-spin-off dropped to a minimum.

Since the execs announced that the last few episodes of House would be House and Wilson centric...

... and that Cuddy wouldn't return for the finale, Cuddy and "Huddy" - I really hate the stupid names fans give to pairings! - fans upped their hate and venom spewing to a scary degree! They troll the comment section of every article, they ridicule the actors, characters and storylines in an attempt to ruin everybody's fun.

And I'm starting to get really angry! The last straw were the comments to this article - link (SPOILERS!) - where people literally made fun of last night's reveal. That's not just trolling, it's sick, because, yes, it's so hilarious to make fun of spoilers! )

Cuddy and "Huddy" fans need to BACK THE FUCK OFF right now! Lisa Edelstein wasn't fired, she decided to leave of her own volition. She didn't want to take a pay-cut, so she left! And she didn't bother to tell the writers until after the season finale aired - compare that to Melina Kanakaredes and her exit from CSI:NY, that's what I call classy! As the writers said, if she had told them earlier, they would've given Cuddy a better exit.

Which brings me to Cuddy!fans' whining about her not being in the finale. And why SHOULD she be? There is no reason, her ending was abrupt - LE's fault, not the writers'! - but definite. No loose threads hanging - and boy, did I step into a pile of crap when I dared to say that out loud.

Because Cuddy is, according to the obsessive fans, a poor victim of domestic abuse and deserved the opportunity to kick House in the balls one last time - paraphrasing here. Her story didn't end yet. Robert Sean Leonard is a dick for daring to say frankly that there was no reason to bring her back! The domestic abuse was poorly handled and unrealistic! And so on and on!

Cue me foaming at the mouth! And my rather scathing response! NOBODY says that she wasn't the victim. But! House went to prison for what he had done! Cuddy got a restraining order! She moved away and built a new life for herself! What more DO the fans want? Tearful apologies? From HOUSE?! And! The fact that the domestic abuse had a poor ending was, once more, LE's own fault! As the writers said, they had more planned, a reconciliation of a sort between them. No, they wouldn't have become a couple again, ever, no matter what desperate "Huddy" fans want. The execs said it out loud, House would NOT have ended up with Cuddy no matter what - which makes seasons 6 & 7 even more pointless but that's another kettle of fish entirely - but there would've been more. But LE's exit left the writers with a half-finished story. Yet, according to rabid Cuddy and LE fans, it's all the writers' fault.

Sheesh on a pogo stick! You don't like it? Then don't watch it! And let others enjoy it in peace. Is it really such a baffling concept?!

ETA: Just to clarify - what people write in their own blogs is their thing entirely. There they can hate on anybody they want. But when they troll articles, that's when I get really mad!

I haven't read "The Hunger Games" books yet nor have I seen the movie - seriously, the more hype something surrounds, the less interested I am in it, go figure. But!

I freely admit that I'm very insensitive when it comes to sexism etc. In most cases, I think it's simply bad writing, not some prejudice on the part of the writer. I'm more of a 'live and let live' kinda girl when it comes to stuff like that. But some of the reviews that popped up for The Hunger Games movie made even me livid!

If the reviews pointed out that Jennifer Lawrence didn't really fit the description of Katniss, that would be okay and perfectly fine. From what I read, she really doesn't. But there's pointing this out and then there's basically calling her fat! Link.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy comments that Lawrence’s “lingering baby fat shows here.” And—most bluntly—Hollywood Elsewhere’s Jeffrey Wells calls Lawrence a “fairly tall, big-boned lady” who’s “too big” for Josh Hutcherson, who plays Katniss’s romantic interest. (In case the message didn’t come through: Wells thinks Jennifer Lawrence is BIG. He also thinks we should be wary of “certain female critics” who “may be susceptible to the lore of this young-female-adult-propelled franchise.”)

Wow. Just wow! What the fuckity fuck! As some of the commenters pointed out, why is only Jennifer Lawrence the target here? What about the male actors? Not one word about them, only Jennifer's body is dissed!

I loved this comment by Paige Junge:

I agree that if the casting director were striving for pinpoint accuracy, JL wouldn't have been the first choice - but it's obvious by the selection of other actors that they really didn't care about physical accuracy.
Since that's the case - and pretty obvious - why aren't the critics pointing out the same misaligned casting issues with the other characters? Why is it just Katniss?
Stanley Tucci's skin was supposed to be blue and President Snow was supposed to look as plastic as a Ken doll, not old, wise, and bearded. And Woody Harrelson is just way too clean cut to be Hamich. He supposed to be one step up from cliche hobo-style guy.
So I think, yeah it is a little odd that it's female's body that under scrutiny (yes I know, she's the main character...but if a critic is going for accuracy, go for full accuracy!)

I really hope Jennifer is strong enough mentally to take this, that she won't fall victim to their body image issues - because, yes, it's THEIR issues. She's perfectly fine! More than fine!

So, CBS first approached BBC, wanting to remake Sherlock. Now they decided to make their own show. Sue Vertue's response: link.

The producers of the BBC's acclaimed Sherlock series, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, are prepared to take legal action against the US network over a rival Holmes series which appears to tread on familiar ground.

(...)

Sue Vertue, Sherlock Executive Producer at Hartswood Films, said: "We understand that CBS are doing their own version of an updated Sherlock Holmes. It's interesting, as they approached us a while back about remaking our show. At the time, they made great assurances about their integrity, so we have to assume that their modernised Sherlock Holmes doesn't resemble ours in any way, as that would be extremely worrying."

Interesting. I bet BBC will follow CBS' show VERY closely and the minute they even hint at copying something from Sherlock, they'll be slapped with a plagiarism charge so fast their heads will spin. And good for BBC! Great that they refused to let them remake Sherlock. Can't the US TV come up with ANYTHING original anymore? All CBS does lately are spin-offs and remakes and redos.

Seriously? No, seriously?! CBS Greenlights Contemporary Sherlock Holmes:

Elementary, from CBS TV Studios and studio-based Timberman/ Beverly Prods., is described as a modern take on the cases of the pipe-smoking private eye created by Arthur Conan Doyle, with Sherlock now living in New York City. Veteran Medium writer-producer Doherty wrote the script and is executive producing the project with Sarah Timberman & Carl Beverly. Sherlock Holmes is very much in the zeitgeist right now with Guy Ritchie’s movie franchise starring Robert Downey Jr. and BBC’s hit series Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch, which was just renewed for third season.

Seriously? I can't stop saying that, because - SERIOUSLY?! This gives me a creepy crawly slimy feeling, sorry to say. I love Sherlock Holmes and I am willing to give a try to anything Holmes related but there IS already a modern day Sherlock Holmes show being produced RIGHT NOW, for Christ's sake!

CBS, if you really must, why not make a show about Moriarty?! The greatest criminal mind of all time? I always defended CBS but this is just too much! Esp. considering a) Sherlock, b) The Mentalist and c) House!

And if that weren't enough, it's from the writers of Medium which I hated, hated, HATED! I watched a few episodes and I wanted to strangle Allison Dubois every time she opened her mouth! Argh!

This really irked me, as you probably noticed. I'm not saying I might not end up liking it - everything's possible and as I said, I give a try to everything Holmes related - but right now, all that's running through my head is SERIOUSLY?!

Why do some fanfic writers insist on making Erik Lehnsherr Polish? AFAIK, he's either German or half German, half Hungarian - depends on the comic book author - but he has never been in any of his incarnations Polish. If some authors think that him being in a Polish concentration camp makes him Polish then those people need to go back to school and learn more about WWII. It irks the heck outta me!

And another thing - when English native speakers who don't speak any foreign languages insist on using them in fics without having a beta who actually speaks that language. The wannabe Czech crap of Zelenka's in SGA fics! And now Erik's godawful German or Polish in XMFC stories. If you don't know how to spell in a certain language or how its grammar works, DON'T USE THAT LANGUAGE WITHOUT A BETA, for Christ's sake!

Yes, I'm annoyed. Thank you for asking :P

XMFC sequel

News here - and in other places.

The good news: Fox's moving ahead with the script for XMFC's sequel! According to the site mentioned above, the movie could be ready for 2013.

The bad news: They hired Simon Kinberg to write it - the guy who wrote X-Men: The Last Stand, the film that started the critical pummeling of the X-Men movies.

When I saw this, I pretty much went "WTF, Fox?!" After how terribly Last Stand and Wolverine were received by critics and fans alike, you finally get back on track with XMFC which is pretty much the critics' darling this year and you hire that hack to write the sequel? The only thing that gives me hope is Matthew Vaughn - if he comes back as the director, which he wants to, he can basically overrule Kinberg and re-write the script, which is what he did with XMFC. So, fingers crossed.

-- Thor 2 will be directed by Patty Jenkins, the Monster director: link. I think it's great that Marvel's actually thinking out of the box. Are they the first one who hired a female director for their action comic blockbuster? But it's too bad that the movie won't be out till November 2013!!!

-- Tricia Helfer got the main part in TNT's new pilot, Scent of the Missing: link. The series will be based on a book by Susannah Charleson and Helfer will play a tenacious K-9 Search and Rescue volunteer and "she gets the job done with the help of a mischievous golden retriever named Puzzle." This might be good! I really like Tricia Helfer.

-- A longer trailer for James McAvoy's Arthur Christmas: link! OMGosh, this looks hilarious. I LOL'd more than once just watching the trailer. For once a Xmas movie I could get behind!

-- I unfollowed Jared Padalecki's official Twitter over on... Twitter. Oh, don't get me wrong, he's incredibly sweet and kind and all that jazz, but I realized I didn't have to know that much about him. He posts quite personal stuff there and, well... I guess I prefer keeping some distance from the BTS stuff of my favorite show. If he posted about his projects? Great. But Gen's pregnancy and stuff like that? Eh, not my thing. Sorry.

-- First reviews of the new The Three Musketeers are out - and most of them tear the movie down because it's not true to the book and historical detail. Seriously? There are air ships in the frickin' movie! It's steam punk! What did you expect, you idiots?!

So, Delicious totally fudged up their web! My account. All tag-groups are gone. Network? You have to go through each and every one of the people you friended to see what they bookmarked, no "network" list anymore. The Firefox add-on? Sends you always to their main page instead of your account. You try to upload your picture to get rid of that awful cat logo? Zip happens...

Fudge it! The ability to see who bookmarked what was the reason I was using it, to get my hands on good fics! Now? Zip, nada, nic! I'm importing my bookmarks to my Diigo account and if Delicious doesn't get their crap together, I'll be packing my things and moving. If I can't use the features I loved anyway, I can at least use a site with a user friendly layout!

I haven't been able to post or crosspost to my LJ account for coming up on 48 hours now. I'm in a really pissy mood because I can't use my own frickin' paid account over there and there have been no status updates since yesterday. And all my friends keep updating and using their accounts as if nothing was going on which is the most frustrating thing, when something's working for other people but not for you. Since they moved a part of its users to Russia, it's been nothing but troubles and problems and downtime. I'm so, SO angry right now...!

So, these last two months we had to replace the radiators in our house (40k) and the couch, eaten by woodworms (6k) and the roof on the garage (20k) and now? The frickin' refrigerator! Another 6k! Do I look like I grow money in the backyard? Do I, life? *sigh* I see some creative financial juggling in my near future.

And if that weren't enough, my boss just pinged me on Skype, telling me he needed me to drop everything and start working on a book the previous translator screwed up so thoroughly that the whole translation needed to be tossed. And he needs it ASAP because the book's already been advertised. The frickin' book has over 400 pages! I love my boss, I really do, he's an awesome guy, but sometimes I feel like I'm the only translator working for him *head/desk*

... The term "love interest"! I see/hear it and I feel like biting someone's head off. Watch me fume! And pardon my French!

Where ever I venture these days, it's all about shipping. Just take a look at Jeff Eastin's - White Collar - Twitter, it's all about how awesome Sara is and if we like Sara or Alex better for Neal and about Jones getting a girlfriend and Mozzie getting one too and for fuck's sake, this show's not Days of Our Lives, it's not about who's shagging whom, I don't give a flying fuck about their love life!

The same goes for other shows, like NCIS:LA - when will Kensi and Deeks "do it"? When will Callen get a GF, he needs a woman to "fix him"? Or Hawaii 5-0 - thank the gods above I dropped that one! - adding love interests left and right to battle Castle that's been pretty much steam-rolling it in its time-slot!

And I won't even touch Supernatural, because Sam and Dean are oh so incomplete without a girl at their side, the poor, misguided souls! The last straw was when a girl compared the Winchesters to the Austrian rapist Josef Fritzl, she said their love for each other was just as sick as Fritzl's who had been raping his daughter for years, keeping her hostage in his cellar! WTF! Seriously, what the flying fuck?!

Are some women really that pathetic that they can't see a man without forcing some bimbo on him? Or a woman without some stud at her side? Because, as a happily single person, I can tell you that's a crock full of bullshit!

Right now, I'm so angry I see red and I'm not even kidding!

Wow!

So, according to the mod of [livejournal.com profile] xmen_firstkink, everyone who asks for a story where Charles does not end up paralyzed is an ableist and their prompt will be deleted because the erasure of his disability, no matter that it's clearly an alternate universe prompt, is hurtful. Wow. Let's lump everybody in one sack, why don't we?

I guess I'll be staying over in [livejournal.com profile] 1stclass_kink, then. I don't agree with their "no sex till 18" policy but I can at least somewhat understand the mod's point.

Wow, just wow. The crazies are crawling out of the woodwork already.

I hate it very much when so-called fans sling mud at the writers/producers of SPN because of... basically everything. The latest bruhaha in the fandom? How disrespectful it is towards Jim Beaver that he hasn't been made a regular yet. Luckily, this article came out immediately and nipped this stupidity in the bud!

[Jim Beaver] tells us that he was once offered series regular status, but that the offer made wasn't substantial enough to offset the cost of relocating his family to Vancouver on a permanent basis, so he didn't accept.

"Every season since, we discuss it, but at present it seems that the existing situation is the best one we can agree on," Beaver tells Zap2it, assuring us that he's comfortable with his place in the "Supernatural" universe. "I'm not unhappy, and the show is spectacularly respectful of me and my needs, and I think they'd give me anything I ever needed if they had it to give."

The rally cries of support for Beaver don't go unheard or unappreciated; they're simply unnecessary. "I appreciate the fan support on this issue, but it's not true that I'm being disrespected or unfairly treated by being a guest star," he says. "Quite the contrary. Supernatural has been incredibly supportive and generous and kind to me, in every possible way, and our current contractual relationship suits me fine."

So, can those "OMG, he's so disrespected" nutjobs finally shut their collective trap? Or will we now hear about how he was forced to say it to keep his job? *hands*
