Oh, God, Hollywood, please, stop with this insanity!

CBS is planning a reimagining of Charmed: link. Yes, not a reBOOT nor a reMAKE but a reIMAGINING. God knows what that means. I bet they will either try to make it all hip a la the flopped Charlie's Angels reboot or more PC correct than the old show. Because, you know, it's easier to take existing material and just change the characters' gender or whatever than to actually come up with something new and original.

And speaking of that, NBC is planning a reboot of Murder, She Wrote staring Octavia Spencer: link. But hear this, the character won't be a bestselling novelist but a hospital administrator who self-published one mystery novel and now tries to insert herself into various police investigations *head/desk* Murder, She Wrote, meet Diagnosis: Murder! Because when a remake is not enough, smoosh two old shows together, why don't you!

Not enough insanity? Fox is planning a Broadchurch remake - starring the UK version's David Tennant! Link. Because, you know, the British are a completely alien species that Americans just can't connect with on any level - or whatever the explanation for this piece of craziness is. They take the UK script and the UK actor and just transplant it to the US of A.

For cryin' out loud!

Sorry for grumbling like Debbie Downer but I seem to have landed my ass in a funk again. So many shows to watch, so many movies to watch - and I just can't find the energy or will. I start watching something and then drop it, I start reading stuff and drop it... I hate it when these funks happen to me because all I can do is wait them out *unhappy sigh*

Wyatt & Chris Halliwell, Charmed

Before Sam and Dean came around, Chris and Wyatt were my favorite TV brothers. They were in just two episodes together, their adult selves, I mean, one S6 ep and one S8 ep, IIRC, but their relationship fascinated me to no end.

When Wyatt went bad, like really Evil Incarnate bad, he killed or enslaved every witch out there, his family included. Everyone but his younger brother Chris. Sure, he put Chris under surveillance but he let him lose. And even after Chris escaped into the past, Wyatt sent Bianca not to kill him but to bring him back. And even THEN, when she did bring him back, Wyatt didn't try all that hard to kill Chris, even after Chris refused to side with him again. I mean, Wyatt was Twice Blessed, he could've wiped the floor clean with Chris if he wanted. But did he? No, of course not. I wonder why he wanted so badly for Chris to join him, it felt like he was above the whole friends and family thing...

And Chris. Chris was the woobie to end all woobies. His story, his first death... they made me cry like a baby. He was my favorite character. He risked his life and died to save his brother and the whole future - the scene in which Chris was killed and Leo totally lost it is still my favorite! - but he was definitely no push-over. He did what he had to, sometimes even bad things, but knowing what was to come, he couldn't stop. I loved that he loved, no, adored his brother but he wasn't blind to Wyatt's faults. As he said, "If I can't save you, I swear to God I'll stop you." Even though I think it would've destroyed him, emotionally, I mean.

The last episode of the series, where they both appeared, coming back from the future, was all I could wish for, regarding them, I mean. Though it looked like Chris remembered what happened to him, didn't he? He remembered grams, after all. And he did seem... older, wiser than Wyatt despite being younger, didn't he? Like he has lived his life twice already...

Yeah, these two give me FEELINGS! *hands*

Oh, brother

Brothers, my squee, my kink! My favorite brothers?

TV:
Sam and Dean Winchesters (Supernatural): Duh! ;) Those two are my holy grail of brotherly love. Nothing can surpass them. And the amazing chemistry between Jared and Jensen makes these brothers nigh perfect!

Chris and Wyatt Halliwell (Charmed): My, oh my. Those two had like two eps together, but in those two eps - sparkles! Chris Crossed? Still rocking my socks. In the whole series, nothing moved me to tears like Chris' death. After he died, I lost interest in the show. I mean, Chris loved his brother so much, that he sacrificed everything to save him.

Never liked the Petrellis in Heroes or the brothers in Prison Break and these days, even the Eppes bros from Numb3rs disappoint me :(

Books:
Ukiah Oregon and Atticus Steele ("Dog Warrior" by Wen Spencer): Atticus appeared only in the last book of the Ukiah Oregon series but wow, I fell in love with him. The way he and Ukiah were ~aware~ of each other thanks to their connection. Wow!

Deymorin and Mikhyel ("Dance of the Rings" trilogy by Jane S. Fancher): Wow, talk about slashy subtext! Fancher almost turned it into ~text~. I mean, they both felt more than brotherly love for each other, much, much more - it was said and shown, Mikhyel even offered! - and once they got over their misunderstanding, their whole world started to turn around one another, despite their love interests. Wow!

Anime:
Diamond and Sapphire (Sailor Moon): I still get all teary eyed when the Wiseman kills Sapphire and Diamond can only watch. When Diamond then appears, picks his brother's body up and carries him away in his arms... Yup, still teary eyed!

And which brothers do you like best, my dear flist? Help me out, here! Books, movies, series, anime, comic books, manga - ANYTHING!

So, the new SPN is sitting on my HDD, looking all innocent and tantalizing at the same time. To watch or not to watch, that's the question. I mean, I won't get to see the next episode until next Sunday! *bites nails* Well, I will try to be good and wait but will I be successful? It's Sam and Dean after all *bounces in place*

Oh, and I ordered Charmed S6 - Amazon dropped the price to $22.99 only - because, IMHO, it's the only season really worth owning. Why? Because of Chris, of course. Chris is love and such a woobie and he reminds me so much of Dean - he would do anything for his brother, he frickin' died for his brother! And when they killed him, the show basically ended for me and I didn't watch it until the very last ep, just to see him bicker with Wyatt in a good way, not in the "I will slit your throat" way. Maybe this box set will inspire me to continue writing my challenge fic?

From Amazon.com, I received today:
Nicholas Knight's "Supernatural, The Official Companion S3"

From Amazon.de, I received:
William Rabkin's "Psych: A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Read", a Psych tie-in novel
Holly Scott and Jaimie Duncan's "Hydra", an SG-1 tie-in novel
Paul Ruditis "Leo Rising", a Charmed tie-in novel
Yun Kouga's "Loveless 2+3"
CLAMP's "X 1" and "Tsubasa 2+3+4"
Hirotaka Kisaragi's "BrotherxBrother 3"
Ayano Yamane's "Finder 4"

My Boss wants me to review:
Jennifer Rardin's "Once Bitten, Twice Shy"
John Meaney's "Bone Song"
Lilith Saintcrow's "Night Shift"
Marcus Pelegrimas' "Blood Blade"
Jim C. Hines' "The Stepsister Scheme"
Jaye Wells' "The Red-Headed Stepchild"

I also need to read Tom Lloyd's "Stormcaller" since I will be translating part 2!

And SGA's new tie-in novel "Nightfall" by James Swallow is on its way to me, too! Hopefully, it'll arrive soon. I can't wait for more adventures of Team!Sheppard! :)

* The Olympic Closing Ceremony was beautiful. Not as beautiful as the Opening one but still impressive. I loved the human torch best. But London's introduction was... bland compared to that, to be honest. I hope that the British do better in 2012.

* I ordered the Tropical Heat series box set (the whole series for 26.99$!) and the novelization of SGA's pilot episode, "Stargate Atlantis: Rising" by Sally Malcolm from Amazon.

* I'm staying strong. I'm spoiler-free for Supernatural's S4 and I resisted and didn't download the ripped gag reel. I will wait for the official DVDs to arrive *nods* I feel so proud of myself :P

* And something shocking! Last night, I finished another fic for my charmedprompts table, this time using the prompt: "The more things change, the more they remain... insane." - Michael Fry and T. Lewis. Wyatt's falling...

* Psych, ep 3x06! My spoilery thoughts... ) Happy, happy :)

* I finished reading Ariel Tachna's gay vampire book "Alliance in Blood" and I must say that it was the most sugary, the cheesiest book that I've read lately, with poor, fragile men and tortured souls *snorts and rolls eyes* Luckily, I got rid of the awful after-taste by reading vol. 8 of Clamp's "xxxHolic". Watanuki and Doumeki rock my socks. I think this is one of the best manga by Clamp - the right amount of angst and humor!
katikat: (Default)
You know, I thought that the SPN fandom wanked about female characters but boy, was I in for a treat in the SGA fandom - so much Keller!hate like you wouldn't believe it! I mean, it's true that they introduced her to get a young, blond love-interest on the show (shipping her with both Ronon and McKay really didn't help) and she replaced the much beloved Carson but... ugh! *covers her eyes*

SGA fic rec:
GEN (if a bit slashy in later parts of the series) --> "Retrograde" by Martha Wilson. The Atlantis expedition has been lost for three years. SG-1 goes to find them, and arrives just a little too late. This is simply awesome. I mean it. It's full of h/c but the characters - both SGA and SG-1 - are so them. Especially the O'Neill vs. Daniel and Sheppard vs. McKay banter is just perfect! Words: almost 30.000.

And I have a question for Charmed fans on my flist. I have an idea for a future fic but for that, I need to know how many children the Halliwell sisters had. Piper had three: two boys and a girl; Pheobe had two girls, IRC; and Paige? I think that Paige had three or four, twins among them... at least one boy and one girl. Oh, and what was the name of Darryl's son? *head/desk*

As you may have noticed, Supernatural didn't do all that well in the ratings this week. Again. It brought in only 2.53 mil. viewers and 1.0/3 demo in the fast nationals which will probably drop some 50k yet. But! Let's think positive thoughts!

a) This week, we had 260k viewers more than last week and we are back in the /3 demos!

b) Let's listen to some members of the PiFeedback forum that posted in last night's thread: Good things! ) This is no slur against Reaper. I think that Reaper and Supernatural would fit together better than either of the shows and SV. This is just me demonstrating that all's not dark as it seems for Supernatural :)

And yay, this is what made me really bounce: last night's episode Long Distance Call ranks #1 on "Top TV Episodes" under the sci-fi/fantasy category on iTunes. Living overseas, I don't have access to iTunes' categories so I will have to take his word for it ;)

Also, I finished another challenge fic for my Charmed table! And I have only 10 chapters to go for editing and then I'll rid myself of the Dragons!

ETA: I forgot to add one more happy thing: Dean and his leather jacket... *rolls in the pretty* I missed it so much!

Oh my, [livejournal.com profile] rei17 made a great song vid: Mitternacht (Midnight). The song is in German and if you don't know the language, you won't enjoy it to the fullest - the lyrics are creepy - but the music itself is great! *bounces*

For the longest time, I couldn't write anything. It wasn't exactly a writer's block, I just didn't have the energy to write. But last night, I watched a great Charmed song vid and it made me write the missing piece for my CharmedPrompts table that I needed to be able to continue the series. But... The ficlet went in a completely weird direction and when I finished it, I went all O.o "Girl, what are you doing?" *izdead*

Great things to come out in 2008...

According to TVshowsondvd.com, Fastlane will finally come out on DVD in summer 2008! Maybe I will be tempted to buy it because, dude, it was awesome. The producer was Supernatural's McG and the show was full of gay undertones! *giggles*

And according to [livejournal.com profile] nick_n_nora's post, a new book in the "Donald Strachey Mysteries" will come out in September 2008! The title will be "Death Vows". Great news! :)

Snatched from [livejournal.com profile] lostandalone22...

Name five totally self-indulgent story ideas. (The fanfic you would write if you didn't care if you had an audience and also had no shame.)

1. Psych, gen: I would love to write another five-things type of story in this fandom. "Five Times Shawn Really Was a Psychic" in particular. It wouldn't be funny at all. I even know what the first story would be about: There would be a hiker missing in the mountains and the Search and Rescue would call Shawn and Gus because they helped them find lost people in the mountains before. Shawn just needs a piece of the missing person's clothing and he locks on them and goes after them. But he needs Gus with him because in this state, he's totally oblivious to his own safety. And he would keep going on and on to complete exhaustion if left to his own devices...

2. Supernatural, het: This fic I've been mulling about on and off for months now. Sam and Dean would be werewolves and Sam would be the leader of a pack in the mountains. To the outsiders, it would look like your typical sleepy town with Sam as the mayor - which everybody from the outside would find odd, him being so young. But with the were's being basically immortal... So, the demon killed Sam's Jess and Dean's Cassie died during childbirth together with their child. Dean's still mourning her death. Sam would be in love with Sarah, an art... and weapon's dealer for the pack. In this universe, the were's would be sorta the police of the supernatural world. Dean would have this weird on-and-off relationship with Kathleen, the sheriff from the next town over who would have no idea about the werewolves and demons etc. It would start with Bobby bringing Andrea and Lucas to the town because a rogue were killed Andrea's husband and turned Lucas...

3. Charmed, incest: Actually, this would be the follow-up to my story "Ripping the Fabric of Reality to Shreds" which is gen. Wyatt and Chris would be stuck together in that alternate world, living there for years, trying to find their way home and while doing that, waking up a lot of bad creatures that should have stayed asleep there. Wyatt would be worried about Chris who would be going slightly crazy after having been stuck there for a year alone. The incest would kinda come as a... not natural, but understandable conclusion...

4. Chuck, het/slash/moresome: In this fic, the new interface would be up and running and Casey and Sarah would be given the order to kill Chuck. Chuck has been suffering from terrible headaches because the interface is messing with his brain chemistry. But Casey and Sarah can't kill Chuck after all. They decide to grab him and disappear. They get in touch with Bryce and meet him in the mountains. They run away together. There would be various couples/threesomes/moresomes in this fic because basically, they wouldn't be able to trust anybody else...

5. Supernatural, gen: Sam would find a deck of tarot cards hidden in the Impala's trunk. He would ask Dean about them. In the end, he would find out that the deck belongs to Dean and that it's spell-bound. Dean was using it during the years Sam was in Stanford to keep all the supernatural creatures out of Sam's way and give him a normal life. But the deck basically causes addiction. Once you start using it, you can't stop. And it feeds off of your energy and blood so when you use it, you literally get your hands bloody...

Uh, yes, that was a bit longer than I expected. It's quite easy for me to come up with ideas. It's difficult to actually write them down... *sigh*

Fic )

Of fics

Nov. 25th, 2007 10:31 pm
katikat: (Default)
Yay, I finished another of my Charmed prompt fics. And it looks like these prompts will turn into a one long story in the end because this one is a sequel to my "Conversation about Death" fic. And it's over 1100 words long! *izsurprised*

You know, sometimes, I think that an author should leave a fic as it is and not attempt to write a sequel. Sometimes, a fic is perfect and needs no continuation.

That's how I feel about the amazing Smallville fic "Somewhere I Have Never Traveled" by Jenn. This fic is perfection pure in my opinion but the series of short sequels... I think it ruins the whole thing. Why?

In Jenn's story the main plotline is that Lex loves Clark so much that he would do anything to get him and keep him. He goes to such lengths to win Clark's love that it makes you love his character even more. But in the sequels, Lex does something that makes absolutely no sense in the light of his love for Clark - I don't want to spoil you if you don't know the fic. He behaves in such an OOC way that it completely ruins your pleasure.

And that's why I decided to try and not even think of the other stories as sequels but as a completely different series. It helps a bit *sigh*

I made some new avatars and then I made icons from said avatars! That's kinda what I look like *points at her icon* XD

Title: Conversation about Death
Author: [livejournal.com profile] katikat
Fandom: Charmed
Disclaimer: All standard disclaimers apply here.
Genre: gen, future fic
Words: 600
Prompt: "Death is more universal than life; everyone dies but not everyone lives." - A. Sachs.
Summary: You are a strange one, Christopher, to consider an Angel of Death a friend.

Ficlet )
katikat: (Default)
My lucky bamboo curl is now 2 feet tall. I mean the sprout. It's bigger than the stick now O.O I need to find a new vase for it because this one is getting rather wobbly!

You know, after watching the series finale of Charmed I have a very special vision of what the future Chris would be like, what the relationship between the Halliwell brothers would be like. I know that some people won't agree with me probably, but still...

Even though it wasn't said directly in the show, Chris obviously remembered his past.. or future... or past future... Now I'm confusing myself XP And from the interaction between the brothers, Chris seemed the calmer one, the less exultant one, the one who knew more. Wyatt reminded me of a bouncing puppy, all eager and excited. Chris seemed more like the older brother, all indulgent and exasperatedly patient with Wyatt.

And this is the way I like to write him, as the more mature one, as someone who made peace with himself because he managed to accomplish the one thing he set out to do in his life - keep Wyatt from turning evil. That's the way I love him :)
katikat: (Default)
So, I started working on my Charmed fic that should deal with the prompt "death". At first, I wanted to write about Chris' and Wyatt's sister dying, then just about the aftermath of her death and in the end, I decided to kind of change and expand my 25 fandoms ficlet, to write a short conversation between Chris and Clarence, the Angel of Death... Hm, we will see how it goes...

I love Chuck more and more with every week. Is it even possible? If I should vote for one new show to get a pick-up for a whole season/S2, I would go with Chuck. It's so endearing and kind of reminds me of Psych which is another show that's funny on the surface but deep down, it deals with family issues etc. Just great!

Which reminds me that I need to make a Chuck icon!

Question: If you should choose one new show that should get a full season/2nd season, which one would it be? *curious*

I'm reading J. L. Langley's "Without Reservations" at the mo. Gay werewolves, just what I love :D

I so wanted to read fanfics tonight but my eyes are all blurry and I have to squint which makes my head hurt, so I decided to do some jigsaw-puzzling instead *nods and runs off*
katikat: (Default)
Tuesday's ratings... Beauty and the Geek 2.48 mil. viewers, Reaper 2.46 mil. viewers... Okay, I'm getting kinda twitchy about those numbers. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that Supernatural is way ahead of them *touches wood* but if it continues like this, the whole CW network might go down and Supernatural with it... On the other hand, the forum members over at http://pifeedback.com are quite sure that Sci-Fi would pick our show up. Hm...

What I liked most from the con interview with Jensen Ackles? The question about them going to the gym or training. When he said that they are keeping their bodies athletic, the crowd cheered and he smiled all surprised, saying "How quickly you go there." and then he added softly "It's amazing." And that's what I adored. The way he said it... *giddy*

I joined a new challenge! [livejournal.com profile] charmedprompts. I was invited O.O And I just can't resist the beauty that's Chris Halliwell. My first ficlet? A death story. Go figure...

And a question - are there any new shows this season that you didn't even bother to watch the pilot of? For me, it was Bionic Woman. And from the way it keeps declining every week - ratings-wise - I think it was a good choice :(

I think... I think I just wrote a Charmed fic. 1880 words. But it... totally creeps me out. The plot, the setting, the mental state of the characters... I mean, I wrote the fic and it creeps me out!

The title? "Ripping the Fabric of Reality to Shreds"...

I've never thought about writing such a fic. Never. It never even crossed my mind. But suddenly, I felt this PING! in my head and I sat down and kept writing and writing and the story simply told itself. I didn't even have to think about it...
