As you may have noticed, Supernatural didn't do all that well in the ratings this week. Again. It brought in only 2.53 mil. viewers and 1.0/3 demo in the fast nationals which will probably drop some 50k yet. But! Let's think positive thoughts!

a) This week, we had 260k viewers more than last week and we are back in the /3 demos!

b) Let's listen to some members of the PiFeedback forum that posted in last night's thread:
  • metal: I know Supernatural does very well over seas. In some countries it has a bigger audience than in the USA, like in Russia, for example. It's also very popular in Asia and according to this it airs in lots of countries. DVD's, books, comic books and magazines sell well too, so I gess lucrative merchandising counts for something. And Supernatural is closer to syndication than Reaper, so that's maybe a plus too.
Also, last night's episode Long Distance Call ranks #1 on "Top TV Episodes" under the sci-fi/fantasy category on iTunes.

  • galveston: I agree that it seems unfair, but Supernatural and Smallville were renewed because of their season averages, which are higher than Reaper's and because the competition is bigger on Thursdays. SPN had a good February sweeps. Now there's not even new House on Tuesdays, but Reaper is stuck at the 2.5 million level. However there are other factors which are working against Reaper:
1.) Licensing fees. SV and SPN are Warner produced. Warner's agreed to reduced licensing fees to air their shows (CW wants cuts across the board since the network is bleeding red ink).
2.) Reaper is produced by ABC Studios. From what I understand, ABC won't agree to a reduced license fee.
3.) Warner will clean up with DVD, syndication, and international market revenue with Smallville and especially SPN. Reaper isn't even placing on itunes. Veronica Mars was a Warner show, but it performed terribly overseas, so Warner didn't go to bat for it. Ergo it was cancelled. OTH is a Warner show, and it has a syndication deal. Ergo, it's renewed for season 6.
4.) The strike. Reaper didn't have a chance to establish a loyal audience. Its ratings dropped after its premiere and they stayed down.
5.) Reaper doesn't appeal to teen females. SPN's teen female demo is higher.
6.) SPN did it in spite of having Smallville as a lead in. Big Grin LOL! Their numbers have never affected on another. Smallville will take a drop, SPN will rise. SV rises and SPN drops.
This is no slur against Reaper. I think that Reaper and Supernatural would fit together better than either of the shows and SV. This is just me demonstrating that all's not dark as it seems for Supernatural :)

And yay, this is what made me really bounce: last night's episode Long Distance Call ranks #1 on "Top TV Episodes" under the sci-fi/fantasy category on iTunes. Living overseas, I don't have access to iTunes' categories so I will have to take his word for it ;)

Also, I finished another challenge fic for my Charmed table! And I have only 10 chapters to go for editing and then I'll rid myself of the Dragons!

ETA: I forgot to add one more happy thing: Dean and his leather jacket... *rolls in the pretty* I missed it so much!

That sucks that the ratings are that bad, but I think you have some good points.

I'm trying to stay positive. Otherwise, that would make me way too depressed, really. And besides, all the other shows like GoGi, OTH and Reaper drew in around 2.50 mil. viewers. It's remarkably balanced.
