Diigo!

Since Delicious is at it again - if you don't know what I mean, just go to your account and look, but brace yourself! - I decided to back up my bookmarks with Diigo again - and man, I'm positively smitten, folks!

-- Diigo now offers an automatic x-post function with Delicious, you just need to link your accounts. I love it! From now on I'm bookmarking exclusively through Diigo!

-- Through Share --> Link to meta page, you can see who else bookmarked a link which is what I use to find fanfics on Delicious. This function is so neat!

-- Their "My Network" is basically Delicious "Feed" these days!

-- All the functions that Delicious removed - hey, who needs to edit tags, right? - are all there and compared to the disaster area that's Delicious right now, Diigo is so clean and easy to use that I felt like weeping with joy!

If you have a Diigo account, let me know? I'm here!

I decided to stick with Delicious. After the whole bruhaha when AVOS took over, they are slowly putting stuff back together. Yeah, it's still kinda cumbersome to browse by tags - before, it was possible to simply click on the tags when you wanted to go deeper, like fandom -> pairing -> theme, now you have to type them in by hand - and the network thingy is still broken down by users, but overall, it's pretty much as it used to be, so I'm sticking with it. Right now, it has all the bells and whistles available on Pinboard to where most people wanted to move, but it's for free. So... Sticking with it and backing up my files on Diigo.

I finally got a Tumblr. Mostly to browse for pics, so that I could link entries to my own account and not to someone else's if need be. So far, I've re-blogged a few fanarts that I really liked and that's it. So, if you are over there and want to stay in touch over there too, let me know, okay?

In case anyone's wondering why I used the nick 'drakamena', it's the Czech translation of the pirate ship Amphidrake from one of Naomi Novik's short stories. I translated it for the Czech magazine Pevnost and I really liked the sound of it. I split the name into 'amphi' (kaména) and 'drake' (drak), switched the words and put them back together, thus 'drakaména'. Sweet!

So, Delicious totally fudged up their web! My account. All tag-groups are gone. Network? You have to go through each and every one of the people you friended to see what they bookmarked, no "network" list anymore. The Firefox add-on? Sends you always to their main page instead of your account. You try to upload your picture to get rid of that awful cat logo? Zip happens...

Fudge it! The ability to see who bookmarked what was the reason I was using it, to get my hands on good fics! Now? Zip, nada, nic! I'm importing my bookmarks to my Diigo account and if Delicious doesn't get their crap together, I'll be packing my things and moving. If I can't use the features I loved anyway, I can at least use a site with a user friendly layout!

This morning, I received an email that Yahoo sold Delicious to AVOS. To keep using the site, you have to agree to let AVOS move your bookmarks to their location. I did opt-in - opt-in is NOT default! - and I hope the site will continue as it does now...

Still, I'll save my Delicious bookmarks to my HDD and update my Diigo account. You know, just to be sure. Some of the "legal babble" that goes with the transfer is making me a bit nervous.

More Delicious news:

Many of you have read the news stories about Delicious that began appearing yesterday. We’re genuinely sorry to have these stories appear with so little context for our loyal users. While we can’t answer each of your questions individually, we wanted to address what we can at this stage and we promise to keep you posted as future plans get finalized.

Is Delicious being shut down? And should I be worried about my data?

- No, we are not shutting down Delicious. While we have determined that there is not a strategic fit at Yahoo!, we believe there is a ideal home for Delicious outside of the company where it can be resourced to the level where it can be competitive.

What is Yahoo! going to do with Delicious?

- We’re actively thinking about the future of Delicious and we believe there is a home outside the company that would make more sense for the service and our users. We’re in the process of exploring a variety of options and talking to companies right now. And we’ll share our plans with you as soon as we can.

What if I want to get my bookmarks out of Delicious right away?

- As noted above, there’s no reason to panic. We are maintaining Delicious and encourage you to keep using it. That said, we have export options if you so choose. Additionally, many services provide the ability to import Delicious links and tags.

We can only imagine how upsetting the news coverage over the past 24 hours has been to many of you. Speaking for our team, we were very disappointed by the way that this appeared in the press. We’ll let you know more as things develop. Link

So, so confused. If I get it right, they are NOT shutting down Delicious but thinking of maybe shopping it around? Selling it? Or something? *scratches head*

Enough with the shocks tonight, seriously!

Yahoo is closing down Delicious. Well, fudge. It looks like the only viable option right now is pinboard.in, a paid service, very similar to delicious and it allows you to import all your bookmarks from delicious. ETA: Just found out that pinboard.in doesn't have tag hierarchy like delicious has, so it's not an option for me. Will have to try Diigo. Any other suggestions?

But is it worth it? Honestly, I'm thinking of just opening another LJ/DW and just using it for bookmarks or something - but LJ/DW doesn't allow you to go deeper with tags, like fndm: supernatural -> prng: sam/dean -> thm: mush, when you want to read just mushy SPN fics with Sam/Dean, with LJ/DW you can search by one tag only *sigh* Fudge.

ETA2: A list of all bookmarking sites out there!
