don't be dull, be fannish

Question, folks. Do you have any LotR fic recs? Fics focusing on Legolas or Legolas/Gimli? A few years back, there had been heaps of them. But now, most links lead to nowhere. It's actually hard to find a fic worth reading in this fandom which is terrible, awful, depressing for a fangirl. I remember there used to be a site, it was all green, that held a lot of Legolas/Gimli fics, series even. Now? Nothing. Zip. Nada. Nic. Very depressing. Help? I can't be the only Legolas fan desperate for fics!

In the Inception fandom, I stumbled across several teen!Arthur/adult!Eames fics in a row - and boy, I never realized that the idea of an adult having sex with a teenager squicked me so much *shudders* Seriously, I love het sex, gay sex, threesomes, BDSM... between CONSENTING ADULTS. But an adult and a teenager? No, just no!

I mean, I can take it when it's a high-school and a college student, when the age difference is 4-5 years tops - like, for example, in Teen Wolf (IIRC, Derek is 20-21, some authors use 24-25 but that's the actor's age, not the character's) - that I can take because I don't think the level of maturity between 16 and 20 differs that much - speaking from personal experience. But even then the adult should be absolutely sure that they're both are on the same level intellectually/emotionally and if there's the slightest doubt, he/she should back the hell off.

But when the age difference is bigger, when it's a fic about someone in their late twenties or thirties or even older having sex with a teenager? It turns my stomach, literally. And when the older person is someone in a position of power, like a teacher or a babysitter or a priest or even the next-door neighbor, it's ten times worse. I mean, I couldn't accept Spock/Uhura in the new Star Trek movie because Spock was Uhura's teacher, I couldn't get over it despite them both being adults. When one of the partners is a teenager, it feels too much like coercion. No, just no.

Wow, I never realized just how strongly I felt about this. Interesting...

Why do some fanfic writers insist on making Erik Lehnsherr Polish? AFAIK, he's either German or half German, half Hungarian - depends on the comic book author - but he has never been in any of his incarnations Polish. If some authors think that him being in a Polish concentration camp makes him Polish then those people need to go back to school and learn more about WWII. It irks the heck outta me!

And another thing - when English native speakers who don't speak any foreign languages insist on using them in fics without having a beta who actually speaks that language. The wannabe Czech crap of Zelenka's in SGA fics! And now Erik's godawful German or Polish in XMFC stories. If you don't know how to spell in a certain language or how its grammar works, DON'T USE THAT LANGUAGE WITHOUT A BETA, for Christ's sake!

I wanted to go and see Green Lantern this weekend - alas, the twins can't go, so no GL for me. Oh well, it's not that I was dying to see it *shrugs*

I've been spending my evenings listening to an audiobook, Kevin Hearne's "Hounded", first in the "Iron Druid" urban fantasy series. It's quite hilarious.

I got really miffed at the fandom in general yesterday. All bitching and moaning, hijacking threads and comments to stage petty wars. Seriously, I want to crawl inside some old or obscure fandom and pull the door shut behind me so that I can actually enjoy it in peace without having to stumble across these pissing contests!

I ordered a B-day gift for myself. My B-day isn't till next month but since I had the money and Amazon was giving me the "only so-and-so many in stock, order now!" notifications, I ordered all the remaining volumes in the "xxxHolic" and "Tsubasa Chronicles" series and "Green Lantern: Rebirth".

I wonder what to watch next, Geraldine McEwan's Marple, Idris Elba's Luther S1 or Kenneth Branagh's Wallander. Just something I can enjoy in peace for what it is without needing to pussyfoot around people with "issues".

Seriously, peeps, I don't get it.

You know the spoiler that I posted today? There's a link to Ausiello's column under the cut and, because I'm too curious for my own good, I went and read the comments that various people who call themselves SPN fans posted.

Oh my, the vitriol! I mean, the only character that I ever hated on SPN was Bela and not because she was a woman but because she was a poorly designed character who had been planned for one ep only or recurring at the most, definitely not regular, she was forced on them by the network, so the writers floundered with her and in their attempts to shoe-horn her in made her simply awful. And I freely admit that I sang and danced when I found out she would bite the dust! ETA: And I said, back then, that if they had kept Bela, I would've dropped the show, I wouldn't have kept on watching just to hate and complain.

But what's with this hatred towards Sam and Castiel? I don't get it! I mean, Castiel has been barely there this season. What's there to hate? And Sam? Why do people hate Sam Winchester? And why do people still watch the show when they hate one of the lead characters?

I'm what you would call a Dean!girl. I look forward to his storylines and I look for fics that center around him. But I adore, positively adore both Sam and Castiel. Would I like to see a Dean centric arc? Of course! Does that mean I'm enjoying the current storyline, both Sam's and Castiel's, less? Heck NO!

What's wrong with people who call themselves fans yet spew poison and call each other names? I always feel... dirty when I read comments like that which is why I pulled back from the SPN fandom in general and de-friended all comms. It's... distressing, disappointing and sad... :(

You know what rills me up? When fans say what other fans must do. If they said that fans should or could something, fine. But this... It makes me feel like a bad fan when I don't agree with them and don't do what they consider "necessary" *sigh*

Hey, you know what? Now that the writers are striking and the actors soon won't have anything to do, they could make lotsa ep commentaries for future DVDs. Wouldn't it be awesome if Jared, Jensen, Kripke, Manners and others made a commentary to each and every ep during the strike? I mean, it would be better than to just put the actors etc. on hiatus, right? There could be some behind the scene stuff with all the crew members, not just the actors, to give the crew something to do too. I think that fans would be delighted!

GEN --> "Seeds of Vengence" by isolde13. Beware, there is some Sam/Dean non-con and it's MPREG! The YED possessed Sam, raped Dean and left him with a little something... This fic is nonetheless very gen after the... act. One of the best SPN MPREGs out there!

WINCEST --> "Demons Made Me Spill My Guts Like a Little Girl" by walkawayslowly. A demon possessed Dean and killed everybody the Winchesters knew. And then the demon simply left and Sam and Dean had to pick up the pieces. Very, very good.
