As a person living in Central Europe, I find the Japanese mythology in Tactics incredibly fascinating, all the spirits and gods. We've been Christians since the 9th century here. Well, we do have famous pagan gods like Morena or Radegast in our mythology, but we've been mainly Christians. So, the idea that a kami can inhabit anything from a computer to a mountain is so, so fascinating...

That said, Tactics' main draw, at least for me, are Kantarou and Haruka. Their friendship, the way they care about each other. I mean, Kantarou is a very warm-hearted person - though he can be so cold it's downright creepy - and he knows how to show affection. Especially his affection for Haruka. Haruka on the other hand... I love it when he proves he cares. He does it so rarely but when he does *happy sigh*:

There are things that annoy me - like Suzu. The girl is aggravating. I don't like children in movies/books/TV shows etc. and so on. All they are good for is to do dumb things and be told it wasn't their fault even when it really, really was. Blah. And then there's the disturbing stuff. Like when the evil demon molested Haruka, the inappropriate touching. Sheesh. Or when the young twins tried to seduce Haruka and Kantarou. Or when the praying mantis devoured the butterfly. SHEESH!

And then the last episode in this box set... When you know where that leads, what Raiko will cause, it's heartbreaking.

Done with this DVD set! Unfortunately, I don't own eps 14-26. Yet!

Love this anime so much, Kantarou and Haruka, their adventures. But most of all, their relationship. It's so incredibly lovely. Like when Kantarou told Haruka that he would die for him... I don't think that Haruka really understands what he means for Kantarou, not yet anyway. But he's slowly getting it. Like when Kantarou's old friend told him about Kantarou's childhood, how he was bullied for being different - and that's why he decided to find the Onikui, the crow-demon - Haruka - and be as strong as him... That's so, so lovely. But also lonely - every time they show the scene where little Kantarou talks to his spirit friends, crying, I get a lump in my throat. He was such a sweet child...

I have had a shitty evening, fandom wise.

First, I decided to leave the Teen Wolf fandom because I just couldn't deal with all the shit that was being thrown around there: I mean, really? The show is homophobic because it dared to kill a lesbian? Really?! The PC demands are reaching the XMFC fandom levels (remember when those nutters demanded a special warning for fics where Charles didn't end up in a wheelchair because they considered them ableist?) and it's ruining my fun. So, instead of going with my head through the wall, I decided to leave. I'll still be watching and enjoying the show, reading fanfics and stuff like that, but only in my corner of the web, not touching any more metas or reviews with a ten foot pole!

And then some other things happened too. The less said, the better.

*sigh* Why can't people simply enjoy stuff without nitpicking it to death? Remember the good old days of yahoo groups for shows like The Sentinel? For Gundam Wing? Before the Crusaders for Social Justice invaded them and started ordering everybody around - like the whole 1x2 vs. 1x2x1 idiocy? What happened to the fun we all had together? Now it's all about "subverting sexist tropes" and attacking the writers left and right and whatnot and I just can't deal with this. For me, TV and movies and books, they're an escape. I really don't need or want the shit that I encounter in RL forced down my gullet in fandom too. For that I can watch the news.

So, to squeeze at least something good out of this crappy evening, I ordered the anime Tactics, episodes 1-13 on DVD, used and for not even Ł8, shipping incl. I really needed something to cheer me up and this is my favorite anime! Haruka and Kantarou... I still remember the fic I wrote about them, "Nettles"...

Fai D. Flourite, Tsubasa Chronicle

Fai - or Fye, depends on in which language you watched/read it - was so incredibly fascinating. Always smiling yet ready to fight and kill, with strong principles and mysterious past... He went through so much development, from a mage to a vampire, linked to Kurogane. Wonderful! Loved him :)

Subaru Sumeragi, Tokyo Babylon & X/1999

Talk about a tragic hero. Losing everything because of Seishirou Sakurazukamori and still being unable to stop loving him. My heart broke for him. And he didn't even get a happy ending because his sister's revenge ended up killing Seishirou after all... Yeah, ouch.

Ichinomiya Kantarou, Tactics

Oh, Kantarou! I wanted to hug him so hard. Always so lonely, with just the supernatural beings to keep him company. So lonely that he even woke an "ogre eating tengu" and named him to have someone who would never leave him. Gosh, I just loved him so much. He was so sweet and cute and kind - yet he could be so hard and cruel too when needed. He was so, so amazing - and yet always so heartbreaking...

I'm so happy to see that Yoroshiku continues subbing Tactical Roar. I usually don't like anime with lotsa big-breasted girls and a healthy dose of panty-shots but this one is actually interesting. It's set in the future and it's about a military ship manned with female stuff. There is some girl-on-girl action there and a kind of incestuous relationship between the captain and her brother. But there is action too, terrorists and battle scenes. I'm not even sure why I fell in love with this one. It just appeals to me, just like Simoun which is about females only too :)

I'm thinking about switching from Amazon to Barnes&Noble.

Pros:
--> their shipping dates are much shorter than Amazon's
--> their delivery dates are shorter too
--> they allow me to buy used books
--> they have a much better "search" function than Amazon
--> Amazon is really pissing me off!

Contras:
--> I have to pay $ 25 a year to receive the 10 % discount
--> Amazon's books are sometimes cheaper
--> there is no 4-for-3 offer there

*ponders* Does anybody have any experience with Barnes&Noble? Are they really as good as they seem to be?

At the moment, I'm "patiently" waiting for Amazon to graciously deliver these books to me:

"W Juliet 1" by Emura
"Petshop of Horrors 1" by Matsuri Akino
"Fruits Basket 1" by Natsuki Takaya
"Sengoku Nights 1" by Kei Kusunoki
"Ouran High School Host Club 2 and 3" by Bisco Hatori
"Fantasy Lover" by Sherrilyn Kenyon
"X-kai 1" by Asami Tohjoh
"Full Moon Rising" by Keri Arthur
"Let Dai 3" by Sooyeon Won
"Night Pleasures" by Sherrilyn Kenyon
"Grave Sight" by Charlaine Harris
"Hands Off! 7" by Katsumoto Kasane

I think that you now understand, why I'm so pissed at Amazon!

I still haven't downloaded the first episode of Death Note. Everybody seems to be so gung-ho about it but I'm not. I've never felt compelled to even read the scanlations. Don't know why *shrugs* The plot just doesn't grab me.

The new proofreader at work totally screwed up my translation of Fiona McIntosh's "Myrren's Gift". So now, I have to re-read the whole thing again and correct the mess she created! And you must know that I really really don't like this book. Like really really not. And when I'm finished with that, I will have to translate the other two books in her "The Quickening" trilogy. Both of them have 600 pages... Two months of pure torture, I tell ya X(

Sting's "Moon Over Bourbon Street" is the perfect song for a Were-lover like me :P

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is a strange anime. Either you love it or you hate it. I loved it to pieces, really. The anime has 14 episodes but the first one, called "Episode Zero" is actually a prank episode and depicts the movie Haruhi and her club filmed. Don't judge the series after this ep! I did it at first and almost skipped this wonderful anime.

The series tells the story of Haruhi Suzumiya who is not your average girl. She doesn't like boring stuff and if you are not an alien, a time traveler or an ESPer, there is no chance that she will even look at you... that is until she meets Kyon. Kyon is a bit put off by her gruff demeanor but he keeps talking to her anyway. And the result is that Haruhi decides to establish a club with him, a club that will concentrate on finding supernatural things. Haruhi steals the room of the book club and includes its only member, the withdrawn girl Yuki, into her own twisted plans. Then she forces a well-endowed senpai, Mikuru, to join the club stating that they need big breasted bunny girl to attract new members (not that they succeed). And the last member is the transfer student Itsuki who just goes with the flow knowing that it's useless to try and oppose Haruhi. But Yuki, Mikuru and Itsuki are not what they seem, just like Haruhi is more than a simple school girl. The only truly normal human being is Kyon who just doesn't get how he ended up in a club with all these nutcases!

This anime is hilarious. From the first ep to the last one. But beware, just like the characters are not normal, the series isn't normal either. The episodes don't follow the story chronologically. So, you have ep 0 but it's listed as ep 1, ep 4 is actually ep 8 (or something like that), so you have to watch the preview at the end of the episode to understand where in the story you are. At first, I thought I missed an ep or that I don't have the whole series but it's intentional.

And I truly loved the characters. Especially Kyon. He is the poor, suffering victim of Haruhi's twisted plans and his inner comments are so full of irony and so hilarious that you have to laugh out loud. He tries to dampen Haruhi's exuberance and stop her most devilish plans but he doesn't succeed every time. He is usually miserable and annoyed by the fact that every member of the club is a weirdo and that everybody goes to him with their secrets and expects him to mum about it.

But all that makes the relationship between Haruhi and Kyon even more engaging. Until the last episode, you don't actually understand why Kyon is a member of the club, what's his role in the grand scheme of things, what is he to Haruhi. And even though Haruhi is the main character, I can't tell much about her because every thing I would say would be a spoiler.

And there was another thing that totally got me - the way the series is animated. I have never encountered an anime where the movements would look so fluid. Especially in the ending credits where the heroes dance to the song. It's simply wow! Totally smitten here!

This anime is unusual, weird and touching, sci-fi and romance. I would recommend it to everybody. Go and watch! 5 stars out of 5!

I've just finished watching Tokko and I have mixed feelings about this anime. Not because of the violence. And I didn't even mind the animation style much, even though sometimes, it was more than little sketchy. What I did mind though, were the characters and the jumpy plot.

I know that this anime was based on a manga and that it couldn't use everything, every single plot from it. But please, these last couple of eps were simply ridiculous in their illogicality. It seemed as if they had planed 26 eps and not 13 and then they had to put everything in just a few parts. The result is a patchwork of splitters of stories, nothing is fully fleshed out and you get the feeling that you miss half of the plot. When they couldn't adapt the whole manga, couldn't they have just taken a chunk of it and leave it open-ended? That would have been much better than what they patched together.

And now to the characters. Shindou was... I don't know. I felt as if he was living under Saya's thumb, totally henpecked. At first it was funny, then simply annoying how he couldn't stand up for himself. Rokujo behaved like a love-sick puppy instead of a great fighter. Kureha looked like, dressed like and behaved like the worst of sluts, flashing her breasts that never seemed to peek fully from under her jacket (can someone tell me how she glued her jacket to her body like that? O.o). Inukai was... simply there. If they had cut out his character, they might have saved some money. Ryoko acted really cool but was rather short-sighted too (and not because she wore glasses); I mean what she did or better said did NOT do with Muramasa... The only interesting character was, hands down, Shindou's captain.

When I look back now, I see that the first episodes were actually really good and I was looking forward to another ep. The last three episodes, I've watched via ffwd. That should tell you something X( I would give this anime 2,5 stars and probably buy the manga (if I felt like it) to learn what the heck actually SHOULD have happened because the story line was quite interesting no matter what the anime authors made out of it.

Because I'd finished reading Anita Blake, I picked up "Moon Called" by Patricia Briggs. So far, it looks rather good. But I freely admit that since Ukiah Oregon, I'm really into werewolves and packs. Yeah, yeah, paint me weird! XP

I decided to stop downloading the The Coyote Ragtime Show anime. At least for the time being. It didn't grab me as I thought it would. It reminds me of GunXSword; that one also had such ridiculous heroes and baddies :( I have enough other anime to download and watch.

If there is one anime that has completely stolen my heart, then it's Saiunkoku Monogatari aka Tale of Saiunkoku. It's... wah! I don't even have the words to describe it!

There are beautiful men and really strong women. The relationships are utterly fascinating too. The plot is so intriguing! And what surprised me totally is the fact that not all the main heroes are in their teens. The relationship between Sa and Shou is so riveting and they are in their seventies! In this anime, nobody is what they seem to be. It defies the stereotypes in every aspect.

I really wish some US publishing house would buy the manga and publish it! I would buy it the moment it appeared on the market even though I usually don't buy manga to anime!

Thanks to the rec of a friend, I totally fell in love with the new anime Tale of Saiunkoku. It's similar to Harukanaru Toki no Naka de but the difference is that it's not your usual "a whiny girl gets transported to a magical world" plot. Shuurei's strong and stubborn and can scream your ears off... But there are also a lot of similarities - the eight men are so beautiful. I especially like Seiran and Ryuuki but the bickering between General Ran and the Vice-Chamberlain Ri is so funny too (they remind me of Tomomasa and Takamichi).

Seiran and Ryuuki )

I think that this anime is definitely a keeper. I'm downloading the We Suck's version; it's good but I hate the yellow type because it's rather hard to read X(

The latest episode of Ouran High School Host Club was incredible. Funny but so touching. Tamaki really loves Haruhi! I loved it when SPOILERS ) Aww, super cute! This is one of the best anime this season!

Gah, Ergo Proxy, ep 9! *blinkblink* I downloaded the Ani-Jiyuu version so if you had another one, could you tell me if SPOILERS ) *is ded* I wouldn't have expected something like that from Ergo Proxy! And if [livejournal.com profile] zerotwofan didn't tell me that Ishida Akira is voicing Vincent, I wouldn't have noticed. His voice sounds so different, deep and very male! *enthralled* And did you notice? Inoue Kazuhiko voiced the main chara of ep 9! *squees like a rabid fangirl*

Tokko... Wow! I didn't want to download Oyasumi's version because I have had bad experience with .mkv files but alas, no one else seems to have picked up that one. So far, the files work though *crosses fingers* The anime is so cool! Yeah, yeah, I wonder what a psychiatrist would say about how fond I'm off violent anime X)

I've downloaded the first three eps of the anime Tactical Roar. It's... well...

The premise of the anime is really good. Pirates steal ships. One of the ships they want to steal starts a fight with them and sinks them. But then, the captain of the ship is court martialed because the pirates' ship she sunk belonged to the military in the past. It's obvious, that there is something dark and bad going on in the military...

If it would be just this, I would be totally excited about it but! *sigh* It's a harem anime. All the crew members are females who run around half-naked or even naked. Panty shots, boobs and more panty shots. Lesbians crawling over each other and arguing about who has the right to bed the captain first. Lollies all over the place. And just one guy who gets smothered or beaten all the time.

So, I'm not sure if I should keep downloading it or not. I probably will since it IS interesting. But why? Oh, why does it have to be another harem anime?

December 24th was really great! I gave my mum tons of books, wonderful bath oils (that we immediately had to try out), Bruno Banani's perfume, a calendar of nude male photographs (hehe) and a thermal teapot. I got a really cute night gown, bed sheets made of pure cotton, trousers, an umbrella and hairdressing stuff. Cute :)

Besides that I watched a lot of anime: Here there be spoilers for Noein, Trinity Blood and GunxSword )

And I watched a lot of House. I love the interaction between House and Wilson. I have the feeling that there is only one thing that could bring House out of his unshakable state of "not-caring" - if he somehow lost Wilson. I mean, he is the only constant in his life, he is the one to whom House goes to "whine" when something is not going right, the one who can take all his sarcasm and teasing in straight without getting offended. I love it. I truly love this show *bounces*

I just saw the trailer to Winter Cicada. I think I will really cry when or if I ever watch this Haru wo Daiteita movie. The "if" thing is there because I'm not sure if fansubbers will sub it since it should be aired in a cinema...

And I also watched Tantei Gakuen, ep 26. What a cliffhanger. And no new subbed episode in sight *sigh* The Soldats fansubbers are really angry at folks for asking about new eps all the time. But when they promise that they are not dropping this project but don't sub any new ep in 6 months... no wonder that fans are asking about it, right?

Off to watch more anime.

I LOVE TOCHI HIROKI! He voices Abel in Trinity Blood. I love his "Eto~o... he... hehe" :D I watched the 14th ep raw and wow! Talk about action! And if I'm not mistaken the little vampire messenger is voiced by the same seiyuu who is voicing Wolfram in Kyou Kara Maou. But I'm not sure of that.

And I got stung by a bee. Ouch! Thank the gods I'm not allergic :)
katikat: (Default)
I have been watching the first episodes of Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid and wow! It looks really great. Finally a female hero that doesn't cry and isn't all helpless. She kicks ass, unfortunately mostly the main male hero's. Poor boy, he is cute and nice but a bit dense :P Now I will just have to find the first season. Grr, the download rate is stuck at 0kBs! :/

Tsukuyomi ~ Moon Phase - oh my gosh, this series is getting better and better. Kouhei is learning how to use his powers and Hazuki is all worried. They are such a sweet couple! (yeah, it's het ;)) And now the vampires caught up with them. Poor Kouhei. Why do all the vampire girls love to suck his blood so much? Hehe, they are always so disappointed when they realize that it's impossible to turn him into a brainless servant. Go, Kouhei! Go! I can't wait for the next episode. Such an awful cliffhanger!

And I'm writing another Gorgeous Carat story. I have the first two scenes done and it's almost 2000 words again. Wow. I have never written such long one-shots before. GC has a really intriguing story. And there are so many possibilities for h/c since Floréan is hurting so nicely :D

Off to watch some more anime. My hdd is at 1,5GB out of 40! I need to do some cleaning!
katikat: (Default)
I love it! I really love TIDE-LINE Blue so far. Especially the ostrich! :D I'm curious about what happened to the brothers in the past. And wow, the whole Hammer of Heaven is really cool. I loved the circle of water around Earth. An excellent idea. Very original! :)

And Legend of DUO. It's a really weird anime. Each ep is only 5 minutes long and there is no actual animation. It looks like a talking manga which needs time to get used to. But otherwise, it looks really good. Vampires! :) I'm looking forward to watching this one too!
katikat: (Default)
Soldats actually subbed another episode of Tantei Gakuen Q! Please, pinch me! I need to know that I'm not dreaming! O.O! -.-! O.O!!! And it took them only... well, six months? But now, the scarrywater tracker is down again so I can't download this episode! Grr!!! I really need to know who their enemy is!
