I have this song stuck in my head: the opening song of Detective Academy Q. And it really goes round and round and round like a merry-go-round! *head/desk*

I'm so happy to see that Yoroshiku continues subbing Tactical Roar. I usually don't like anime with lotsa big-breasted girls and a healthy dose of panty-shots but this one is actually interesting. It's set in the future and it's about a military ship manned with female stuff. There is some girl-on-girl action there and a kind of incestuous relationship between the captain and her brother. But there is action too, terrorists and battle scenes. I'm not even sure why I fell in love with this one. It just appeals to me, just like Simoun which is about females only too :)

I'm thinking about switching from Amazon to Barnes&Noble.

Pros:
--> their shipping dates are much shorter than Amazon's
--> their delivery dates are shorter too
--> they allow me to buy used books
--> they have a much better "search" function than Amazon
--> Amazon is really pissing me off!

Contras:
--> I have to pay $ 25 a year to receive the 10 % discount
--> Amazon's books are sometimes cheaper
--> there is no 4-for-3 offer there

*ponders* Does anybody have any experience with Barnes&Noble? Are they really as good as they seem to be?

At the moment, I'm "patiently" waiting for Amazon to graciously deliver these books to me:

"W Juliet 1" by Emura
"Petshop of Horrors 1" by Matsuri Akino
"Fruits Basket 1" by Natsuki Takaya
"Sengoku Nights 1" by Kei Kusunoki
"Ouran High School Host Club 2 and 3" by Bisco Hatori
"Fantasy Lover" by Sherrilyn Kenyon
"X-kai 1" by Asami Tohjoh
"Full Moon Rising" by Keri Arthur
"Let Dai 3" by Sooyeon Won
"Night Pleasures" by Sherrilyn Kenyon
"Grave Sight" by Charlaine Harris
"Hands Off! 7" by Katsumoto Kasane

I think that you now understand, why I'm so pissed at Amazon!

I still haven't downloaded the first episode of Death Note. Everybody seems to be so gung-ho about it but I'm not. I've never felt compelled to even read the scanlations. Don't know why *shrugs* The plot just doesn't grab me.

The new proofreader at work totally screwed up my translation of Fiona McIntosh's "Myrren's Gift". So now, I have to re-read the whole thing again and correct the mess she created! And you must know that I really really don't like this book. Like really really not. And when I'm finished with that, I will have to translate the other two books in her "The Quickening" trilogy. Both of them have 600 pages... Two months of pure torture, I tell ya X(

Sting's "Moon Over Bourbon Street" is the perfect song for a Were-lover like me :P

I've noticed that Shinsen has started subbing Demonbane. Please, take an advice from someone who saw two episodes of this crap - don't bother. That anime is so ridiculous that it's annoying.

There is this guy who has magical powers. He is looking for for this grimoire; I think it was Necronomicon but now I'm not sure. He is actually a sort of PI who has no money whatsover so he goes to this church orphanage to get food for free. So far, it sounds interesting, doesn't it? Well, now comes the big but!

If the authors left it like that, a supernatural PI solving mysteries and looking for this grimoire, it would have been really cool. But! A girl appears. She actually literally falls this guy in the lap. The girl is this grimoire he is looking for. She makes a contract with him - she will use him as the vessel of a magical power (or something like that) and for that she will make a powerful sorcerer out of him. And here it comes - boom and he turns into this weird imitation of "I'm a bad-ass superhero in tighs" (I don't know why but he reminded me of Sailor Moon - weird associations, I know) and this girl turns into this teeny weeny mini little chubby chibi who is flying around him like a ball. Oh, and they get a mecha too, just for a good measure. The mecha actually belongs to a little rich girl who has this super sekrit computer base in her cellar where there are these big breasted girls in maid uniforms sitting at the computers of course. Oh, and the main baddie so far is this weird woman with breasts that try to pop the buttons on her shirt and bounce and jiggle with every step.

So, this anime doesn't just have a bad story, but it's not really that well drawn and it's your piggish man's wet dream; there are girls in maid uniforms, big breasts, lollis... Pah! I didn't just stop downloading it, I deleted all the eps I had too which I never do. Yuck :P

I fell in love with Black Lagoon. Totally and completely. That's an anime for me! Action! Action! And more action! Things going boom! Gun-fights! Treasure hunting! It's like watching an action TV series in anime format. I love the fact that the main heroes are not children but adults. And the females! Levi and Balalaika rock *beams* But it's not for the faint-hearted since in every ep a lot of people die.

And what really surprised me - in the good kind of way - was Utawarerumono (The One Being Sung). I'm not sure why I put off watching that one but now I can't get enough. It's really cool. The premise is not that original: The village healer finds an injured man in the woods and she takes him home. The man wakes up but has no memories. But he has a mask on his face that won't come off no matter what. And since the man doesn't have anywhere to go, he stays in the village... It sounds pretty lame but there are fights, baddies, forest gods etc. etc. Not really an action anime but on the good side of the fantasy ones :)

Tried to watch Demonbane too... I'm not sure what to think of it. The mix of magic and mecha... nya... If it would be just Kuro, his magic and his detective agency, that would be perfect (a bit like the Dresden Files books) but the whole grimoire thingy... and the baddies are rather tongue-in-the-cheek-ish too... I will probably give it one or two more eps to see where it's going.

And I changed my layout again. What a surprise! :D

Jigoku Shoujo: Creeeeeeeeeeeeepy! And sad at the same time. The poor young people who turn to Jigoku Shoujo for help are completely desperate and still need to pay for the revenge she takes on their behalf with their souls. The first girl was quite content with it, but the other... I don't think I would ever do it. I'm too much of a coward. I would rather suffer in this life than after death forever in hell. But still, this series is a keeper.

Noein: Cool, really cool. I don't like the anime style much - it reminds me too much of Beck - but the story and the special effects are truly intriguing. And besides, I love stories with a tortured main male character. And the question at the very end "Anata ga dare?" reminded me a lot of Soukyuu no Fafner where every episode ended with the question "Anata wa koko ni imasu ka" and it was said in the same, sad girly voice. Creepy. Another keeper!

Detective Academy Q: Squee! Shinsen picked it up! Three episodes in a month - compared to previous 1 ep every six to seven months, I feel like in heaven. And the plot thickens. I wonder, who Kyuu actually is. So exciting. This series reminds me a lot of Detective Conan but the story is better. More... mature I would say with the whole secret society and someone who wants to kill our heroes... yay. Can't wait for more.

Oh, and talking about DAQ - I made a new icon. The situation in this pic *points* is completely innocent but cut out of the context... Hm, what do you think? *g*

So, I finally watched the whole anime W-Wish aka Double Wish. At first, the anime looks like the usual "slice of live" stuff. Junna and Senna are twins - brother and sister. They live alone since their parents died in a car accident. In this accident, Junna lost his memory and doesn't remember even Senna, but accepts the fact that she is his sister. But then, another girl appears, Hirohi, who claims to be Junna's sister too. And then the things get weird. Junna starts to remember and gets violent headaches. And then... Okay, I don't want to spoil the actual plot XP but let me tell you this - it was NOT what I expected it to be. Talk about weird, really XD

It was rather good. Not excellent but I would give it 7 stars out of 10. It kinda reminded me of the anime Saint Luminous Mission High School which was REALLY weird; you know, people disappearing and appearing again, weird grannies on tricycles... yeah, that kind of weird :D But I would recommend both animes to people who don't need their series full of action to keep them content :)
