I spent the day watching Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, an utterly ridiculous and incredibly funny anime about a dense male high school student slash mangaka and his cute helper girl who is completely infatuated with him. And their assorted posse of completely nutso friends. I mean, there's this guy who's always embarrassed by something and who's actually the "heroine" in the mangaka's work. There's the short director in the drama club and his tall as a tree actress who always plays the male parts and is the Prince of their school. And then there's the aggressive, tomboyish, violence loving girl and the sensitive, naive, endlessly cheerful younger student she loves to torment - and take out on dates and give him presents. It's hilarious. This one's a keeper for when one needs cheering up on bad days!

If I should sum up the anime in one pic, it would be this one, pretty much showing the anime's tone:

Albert de Morcerf, Gankutsuou

This anime was incredibly visually stimulating and it also had quite a few very fascinating characters. Among them was the young Albert, the main cog in the machine of Monte Cristo's revenge. I liked him because, yeah, he was naive but he wanted to believe in the best in people. He always wanted to do the right thing and yet, so many people died because of - or for - him...

Kazuki Fuuchouin, GetBackers

Ah, Kazuki. How sweet and gorgeous. And kick-ass like whoa! I cheered every time he thrashed someone, proving he was no wilting flower. Looking like a fragile girl but being definitely a boy, he tended to confuse straight guys everywhere. His relationship with Juubei... *happy sigh* So wonderful.

When I was searching for pics to use, I got such a strong craving for GetBackers that I ordered the first volume of the "GetBackers" manga from Amazon UK *cheers*

SGA --> McShep: "Aegis" - authors: Leah & Springwoof, reader: rhea314. The Ancients' genes didn't just confer the power to activate their technology. For ten percent of Earth's population, like John Sheppard, the ATA gene also gave them Gifts: special abilities that made them admired, envied, and feared. Time: 8hrs+!

Yup, that's what I've been doing these past couple of days XP

Also, why didn't anybody tell me that rhea314 is also turning Sunhawk's Gundam Wing "Ion Arc" into podfics? "Assumption" and "Evasions"! How I miss anime fandoms, good old times :)

[livejournal.com profile] frayen just made me remember the good old days when I used to be an anime geek. I adored the anime GetBackers - I really need to get the whole series in manga format because it rocks so much - and the Ban/Ginji pairing! I mean, the anime wasn't listed as yaoi/boys-love but take a look at the official art!

Pictures )

Would you say that these boys are straight? O.o

Also, the current anime Monochrome Factor - if that's not BL, I will eat my hat! XP

TV Guide posted a very interesting article about Michael Trucco - Anders on Battlestar Galactica. He had a terrible accident in December last year. He broke his neck but not only did he survive but with no consequences too. The doctors said that he was a "freak of nature", Katee Sackhoff called him a "strong son of a bitch" XD
katikat: (Default)
Have you ever tried to work on something that needed your full concentration when someone was breathing down your neck most of the times or playing war movies at full blast in the next room? No? Well, you should try then... and tell me if you manage to do ANYTHING! *irritated*

Now to the fannish squee - someone finally picked up Gakuen Alice! I don't know if Naisho-Fansubs still exists or not but they haven't released a new ep in 8 months. I think the fans took the hint. The new subber is Studio ADTRW. I don't know this group and their way of subbing but no matter their quality, I will download it. I want to see how this anime will end. *glad*

You can find the torrent here!

You know, I don't read fanfiction much anymore; a) I don't have the time for it if I want to keep up with all the stuff I'm downloading and b) I started reading books again. But there are stories that I've been following faithfully...

If there is a story worth rec'ing in the Smallville fandom, then it's Rageprufrock's "Conflict of Interests" and its sequel "Visiting Hours". You actually don't have to know almost anything about the series to understand these stories because they are future!fics and AUs at the same time. The story is told from the POV of Conner Clark Luthor, the son of Lex Luthor and Clark Kent. And no, this is not mpreg since Conner is the result of Lionel Luthor's experiment. Conner is an adorable little devil who gets into all sort of mischief with his best friend and future "minion" Geoffrey. This is a terrific "feel-good" story that always makes me smile.

And then there is Gundam Wing, Karen and hers "Running With the Moon" series that so far consists of the finished multi-parter "Blood or Chocolate" and the WIP "Blood in Siberia". It's a 5+2 story which is highly unusual for me but her Duo is strong and intelligent and he fights and bad-mouths the bad guys. And Wufei, the leader of the pack of werewolves, is simply cool. I bounce every time Karen adds a new chapter. But does anybody know what happened to her site? :(

I finally finished watching the anime GunXSword. It wasn't a bad anime, actually, it was pretty good considering how silly some of the baddies were. But I liked the ending very much even though I cried when SPOILERS ). But it's still scary to come across madmen like the Claw bastard *shudders* They kill people and then they feel sorry about it but without actually realizing what they had done. They don't feel anything and are completely convinced that they are right... That's why I simply couldn't like Michael, although SPOILERS ). And the very ending! Hilarious! XD

Overall, it was fun. Not the best anime of all, but a good one nonetheless.

Today, we had a little get-together with some family members I haven't seen in years even though we live in the same town. Lets just say that now I understand why we don't meet very often. If I'm lucky enough, I won't have to see them for another two or three years X(

On a different note: I can't believe that there is only one episode of Jyu Oh Sei left! On the other hand, I don't like the twist the whole series took in the latest episode. I mean, I know that it was the point towards which the anime was headed but still :( This was not my cup of tea...

But the latest episode of Princess Princess was incredibly funny. I like this anime better than Gakuen Heaven; I think that Keita is too weak for a main character and the whole MVP is ridiculous :(

Last night, I bought a Streamload account. I want to try it out since I've heard lotsa good about it. Although I wouldn't have believed what they were asking for in the sign-in form. The phone number on the back of the card? What for? I mean, I live in the Czech Republic. Do they want to call across the ocean just to ask about one credit card? O.o Not even Amazon goes that far!

And I plundered my bank account and bought books for almost 100 $ via Amazon!

"Earthian 3" by Yun Kouga
"Yellow 3" Makoto Tateno
"The Ruins of Ambrai" by Melanie Rawn
"The Last Mortal Man" by Syne Mitchell
"Ritual of Proof" by Dara Joy
"Moon Called" by Patricia Briggs

I can't wait to get them! *bounces*

I almost caught up on the Angel Heart anime. It's really good. And getting better. I didn't like the first arc much. But now, that Ryo is back to being City Hunter, it's really cool. And this anime has the most cool music!

Also trying to catch up on GunXSword. I started downloading SHRIMP's version and it's not half bad :) Thank you for the tip, Sharon *kisses* But I completely forgot how silly some of the baddies are XD

And it was almost 30°C in the shadow here today *melts* Hothothot!

Last night, I stayed up late to watch the first episode of Gakuen Heaven. Wow, I haven't seen so many bishies in one place since... well, probably since the Graduation M OVAs (which are download-able via animesuki). And it makes me happy that this series should have 30 eps and not just 12 or 13 like so many anime lately. But back to the bishies - Yuu Higuri's designs are gorgeous! I love her manga and to see her characters in "flesh" is so cool. Not much happened in this episode but it looks promising. Especially the yaoicest-ish twins ;) (I'm all for yaoicest - especially with twins :P).

What worried me though, was the prank Live-Evil played. They made a fake sub of this episode and from what I read in the AniDB comments, it gave the whole anime a bad reputation. A lot of people turned it down with disgust. And it's such a shame because I think this will be a really good anime

I've finally finished watching Ginban Kaleidoscope and let me tell you that this is one of the most touching stories I've ever watched. It starts as a hilarious comedy but do have a really large box of tissues handy because the last two or three episodes will make you cry your eyes out for sure. SPOILERS ) So, I recommend this anime wholeheartedly to anybody who likes sport anime and doesn't mind crying while watching it.

And I also started watching Meine Liebe Wieder. Wow! This one is way better than the first "season" of Meine Liebe. More intrigue and the story seems to be more... touching, I would say. The characters seem kind of deeper, more fleshed out. But that may be just me. Lui is still his cold, sarcastic self. Naoji the quiet guy whom everybody likes. Camus is girlier than ever but so cute at being that way that you can't blame him. Edward is still hot with his tanned skin and he is still inseparable from Orpherus who continues to try to shoulder everybody's problems and remains his aloof brooding self. But I like the fact that we get to know their families better too and I hope that this anime will keep getting more and more interesting!

I've received the first batch of books I ordered from Amazon. Wen Spencer's "A Brother's Price" and "Alien Taste". They are not gay books but they seem to be rather interesting. I can't wait to read them!

And [livejournal.com profile] michalyn! The parcel is here, luv! Thank you so so much *snuggles* You are the best :)

I finished watching Generator Gawl and let me tell you that this is one of the best anime I've ever seen. When you finally get the whole story, your mind goes "WHAT?!" Totally unexpected revelations and plot twists. Everything is explained too - which is highly unusual for an anime - and there are no loose ends. I still can't wrap my mind around some of the revelations there. I mean, talk about time paradox! *blinkblink*

I can highly recommend this anime to every sci-fi and anime fan out there. There is only one word that can describe Generator Gawl properly: "WOW!"

Lately, all I do in my free time is watch anime and read manga. I have so many series and books to catch up on that I decided to seriously do something about it.

Manga:

Love Mode 1 & 2 by Yuki Shimizu )

Yellow 1 & 2 by Makoto Tateno )

Our Everlasting 1 by Toko Kawai )

Jazz 1 by Tamotsu Takamure & Sakae Maeda )

Anime:

Ginban Kaleidoscope )

I'm watching the anime Generator Gawl at the mo. It's an oldie (1998) but a goodie. A real goodie. It's an anime about three boys - Koji, Ryo and Gawl - going back in time to approximately our present time to change the past. Koji and Ryo are scientists while Gawl is the so called "generator" being able to turn his body into a fighting machine. All the boys are so wonderfully angsty - especially Ryo and Gawl - and so close to each other too. And even the main female hero - Masami - is cool (imagine Kaname from Full Metal Panic), so nosy and bratty and strong. The plot is very intriguing too and even though there are light moments with some comedy (mainly the interaction between Masami and Gawl) it's mainly an action series. For more info go here!

And I bought the PC game MahJong. Argh! Who would have thought that it would be so addictive X)
katikat: (Default)
I finally finished watching Samurai Champloo! Wow, the ending was... wow. I loved the scene between Mugen and Jin --> Jin: "Take care of Fuu."; Mugen: "You better not get killed." *squee* That one made my heart melt. I could so see a Fuu/Mugen/Jin threesome. And how Jin admitted that he considered the two of them friends :D And Mugen's "I don't feel like killing you." attitude! Excellent! *bounces*

Caught up on GunXSword. This is a weird one but it's finally starting to make sense to me. Although I don't understand the attitude of the Original pilots. And poor poor Wendy. But most of all, I love the blond brothers! The younger one is still all baby-fat, but the older one is so cool! Kinda nutty in the head and rather maniacal but cool :D I hope that Shinsen will sub more eps soon.

I downloaded and watched the first episode of Fate/stay Night. Wow, the first episode and we already had a mass murder and an explosion. And it's wonderfuly drawn, just the way I like it. This one looks rather interesting. Magic in the present times, fighting, little evil girls *eg* Cool! :)

I decided to download Suzuka. I tried one episode and it looks rather interesting in the "slice-of-life" kinda way. No fighting or action whatsoever but it caught my attention.

Karin is also getting better and better. It's still funny, but I can feel the deeper, sad undertones there too. Anju's relationship with her sister is simply touching. And their older bro is so protective of them, even though he grumbles all the time. I love it!

And I finally caught up on all the eps of Prince of Tennis I had at home. Ep 75 was the last one I had. As a devoted Tezuka fan, I could only cry, really (please, tell me that he will come back soon *hopeful eyes*). But Tezuka is a great captain and I love the relationship he has with Oishi. I think I like the two together better than Oishi and Eiji. Don't know why. I mean, when Tezuka got hurt, Oishi crying out "TEZUKA!!!"... that just got me, really. And I'm already getting withdrawal sings. This anime just gets under your skin like no other.

I'm slowly catching up on all the anime I watch. Unfortunately, I have to study for my state exam that I have in three weeks. But I just can't concentrate on it. I feel all jittery and full of nervous energy. And if that wouldn't be enough, I'm translating Fiona McIntosh's "Myrren's Gift" at the mo. Folks who read that book can tell you that it's not one that could put you in a good mood. It's a tear-jerker all the way. So, I decided to stop translating it until I finish studying what I need for the exam. It's just too distracting :(

Off to watch more anime!
katikat: (Default)
Here there be spoilers, folks!

I found some new shows I want to follow from now:

Karin: That's one hilarious anime about an un-vampire girl. Confused? Well, she is a vampire who gets a nosebleed every so often, especially in the presence of a certain new student at her school. The student kinda reminds me of Kurosagi Ichigo from Bleach.

Gunparade Orchestra: Since I love mecha, I just had to download this one, right? And it looks kinda good so far. Especially the feminine male teacher with the little heart on his face. *g*

And to my obsessions?

House! Of course it's House. His cases are interesting, his humor sarcastic, his relationship with Wilson fascinating. And I found some great fanfiction too! I especially love Eos' stories. You can truly hear House talking when you read the stories. My favorite fic of hers? Lost Causes, definitely :D

And my decisions?

I decided to unsubscribe from all my Gundam Wing MLs. I went "no mail" a long time ago and lately, I haven't been reading any GW stories anyway.

And I decided to close the FindYaoi ML. Nobody is posting anything there anyway. It's so quiet that I'm not even sure if the members are still alive out there. So, January 1st the ML will be deleted.

Oh, and I decided to join the [livejournal.com profile] 1sentence community with a... drummroll... HET pairing! Yes, a het pairing - AkiraxTakumi from Mai HiME. They are the sweetest het pairing ever! :)

December 24th was really great! I gave my mum tons of books, wonderful bath oils (that we immediately had to try out), Bruno Banani's perfume, a calendar of nude male photographs (hehe) and a thermal teapot. I got a really cute night gown, bed sheets made of pure cotton, trousers, an umbrella and hairdressing stuff. Cute :)

Besides that I watched a lot of anime: Here there be spoilers for Noein, Trinity Blood and GunxSword )

And I watched a lot of House. I love the interaction between House and Wilson. I have the feeling that there is only one thing that could bring House out of his unshakable state of "not-caring" - if he somehow lost Wilson. I mean, he is the only constant in his life, he is the one to whom House goes to "whine" when something is not going right, the one who can take all his sarcasm and teasing in straight without getting offended. I love it. I truly love this show *bounces*
katikat: (Default)
Wow, Naisho released Gakuen Alice, ep 12! And C1Anime subbed ep 10 of HaruToki! Wow, miracles obviously do happen :D

And I made a new icon! Bonus points to folks who recognize the guys in the small manga pic. A hint? It's a picture from the last volume of said manga!
katikat: (Default)
I feel all better today. Still tired but better. I think the book's fault. You know, the one about Hesse. It's so incredibly boring. Like really really. Today, I fell asleep twice while reading it. And there are still 300 pages left. *groans*

And now to the funny stuff...
