Good movie. I especially liked what went down between Katniss and Coin, that was awesome. And the way she took care of Peeta, I think it was something that Gale would never, could never understand. Yes, he was a soldier but he actually turned into a killer, whereas Katniss and Peeta never forgot the humanity behind war. I think Katniss made the right decision when she chose Peeta.

I also wanted to go and see Victor Frankenstein but I had to choose between HG and VF, and since the twins wanted to go and see HG, I agreed. I mean, I dragged them to see Gravity when they wanted to go and see Rivals, so, fair's fair.

Everlark, my OTP! I do like Gale but I think Peeta is closer to my heart, I just love the Alpha!Girl/Beta!Boy dynamic he and Katniss have going. She's the fighter, the hunter, he's the artist, the nurturer. That's glorious...

Now that's a well done YA series! Jennifer Lawrence is amazing as Katniss Everdeen and I love the contrast between Gale who is a fighter and is played by Liam Hemsworth, tall and gorgeous, and Peeta who is a baker and an artist and is played by Josh Hutcherson, cute but rather plain looking. Personally, if I should choose between them, I would have to go with Peeta who might not be a revolutionist and a soldier at heart but he's more... understanding, I guess? Also, Joanna and Finnick break my heart...

I love the visuals in this series, especially Katniss' dresses are amazing. But also Panem, the capital. Wonderfully done.

Mockingjay

Went to see Mockingjay with the twins today. I haven't read the books, so I can't say if they split up the 3rd one well or not, but there were many character moments and personal beats, many more so than in the previous films, at least IMO. On the other hand, because of that the movie felt rather slow. If you expect an edge-of-the-seat action movie, you'll be disappointed.

My favorite bits:

* Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson. They were amazing in it. Both of them. They carried the film perfectly.

* That they showed that both sides don't shy away from using and manipulating people.

* Katniss in general but especially her love for Peeta. You see, to me, Katniss has always felt really cold and reserved, and that's why her unconditional devotion to Peeta felt all the more heartbreaking.

I would give this movie 7/10. I think I need to see it again to really appreciate all the character stuff.

I haven't seen Mockingjay yet - hopefully, next weekend! *crosses fingers* - but I had to listen to this song. Wow. It gives me goosebumps and I literally tear up listening to it, the way it builds and builds and builds, Jennifer Lawrence's voice... I can't wait to see it!

Huzzah! I was a bit meh about the first movie and the books really don't interest me, but movie #2 was great and this looks fantastic. Gimme!

Went to see The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. And loved it! It really surprised me because I found the first one mediocre. But this one hit me in all the right places.

I love Peeta. Not that Gale isn't a sweet guy, but Peeta is amazing! )

I would give it 8/10. I enjoyed it as much as Thor: The Dark World, but I'm not as fannishly obsessed with it, I like it for different reasons.

When I suggest a threesome might be a more expedient solution to at least some of Peeta’s problems, [Josh Hutcherson who plays Peeta] immediately agrees: “I know Peeta would be into it, for sure. He’s very sensitive, in touch with his emotions. I think it really might solve a lot of their problems. You know what? I’m going to pitch that idea. Let’s make it a—what’s it called when three people are in a relationship together? A triad?” He rolls his eyes at his own enthusiasm. “That’ll go over well with Middle America.”

Oh, wow! Can you actually imagine it? The Hunger Games with a Katniss/Peeta/Gale threesome? I now can't unsee it. Katniss and Gale are such Alpha personalities but Peeta is definitely Omega material. Man, and I now need to read a fic with this threesome set in the Alpha/Omega universe. Sheesh...

So, by now everybody has seen Jen Lawrence's famous trip on the stairs during the Oscar ceremony, right? But, honestly, I would love to trip so elegantly...

*_* She looks like a princess or some tragic heroine, doesn't she? And the way her dress spread out on the stairs... Man, she's beautiful and I stan for her so hard! How can anyone not love her? Just look at her wonderful family at 0:50...

They Won!

They won! Jennifer Lawrence for Silver Lining Playbook and Anne Hathaway for Les Miserables! I'm not into awards shows as such but, gosh, I'm happy they won! I crossed both fingers and toes for them. And though I have nothing against Daniel Day-Lewis, I hoped Bradley Cooper would win for SLP too :( Bummer. But that's the only disappointment for me. Thumbs up for everything else. List of all major wins here: link.

Though poor Jennifer, face planting it like that on the stairs! Ouch! I would have died of embarrassment. But it was sweet how Bradley Cooper and Hugh Jackman rushed to help her. I just adore her friendship with Bradley, they are the cutest :)

Wonderful, isn't it? Larger version available here: link. Gosh, she's beautiful.

Wow

Wow. Isn't Nicholas Hoult a gorgeous young man? I mean, he tends to play geeks and shy boys but... wow, just wow. He really is beautiful and I'm not exaggerating. An awesome actor too, of course, that I already knew. But when I saw this pic...

You know, I'm not into celebrity couples, at all. But I find Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence incredibly beautiful together. And not just visually. When she talks about him, saying that her boyfriend is also her best friend... There's something so sweet and heart-warming about them. For once I can honestly say that I hope a celebrity couple doesn't break up because it would break my heart a little.

You know, the whole movie left with me with a bad aftertaste in my mouth. Oh, not that it's not good, don't get me wrong. Just the way the society was portrayed in it... The way some of the kids were so excited to kill each other... The way they turned on each other... It gave me the shivers. Creepy.

Jennifer Lawrence was excellent as Katniss. I know that her casting caused a controversy in the fandom but I don't care one iota. If Suzanne Collins herself liked Jen in the part, everybody else can go and screw a donkey, to be honest. It's her work and she can cast whomever she damn well pleases! And, AFAIK, she was actually involved a LOT in the movie! Sometimes I feel like fans become way too entitled, convinced that they have the God given right to make demands. The only right a fan has is either to watch or not to watch, to buy or not to buy. That's where their rights begin and end.

I'm not sure what to think of the ending. Did Katniss actually fall in love with Peeta or was she just playing her part? I would like to think that she did end up having feelings for him but... When she saw her boyfriend... I actually felt sorry for Peeta. He had been in love with her for ages and she never even noticed him.

I also adored the OST. I think that The Civil Wars' Kingdom Come is the best song of all, it pretty much embodies the whole movie. And it fits the ending perfectly too. They won just another day, their lives won't be any better, children will still keep dying. Yes, they survived but nothing really changed. I have had the song on repeat for a long time now. I think I need to find more songs by this group, they are wonderful, exactly the type of music I love.

Strangely, this movie made me want to read some XMFC fanfics with a kick-ass Raven. Huh...

I haven't read "The Hunger Games" books yet nor have I seen the movie - seriously, the more hype something surrounds, the less interested I am in it, go figure. But!

I freely admit that I'm very insensitive when it comes to sexism etc. In most cases, I think it's simply bad writing, not some prejudice on the part of the writer. I'm more of a 'live and let live' kinda girl when it comes to stuff like that. But some of the reviews that popped up for The Hunger Games movie made even me livid!

If the reviews pointed out that Jennifer Lawrence didn't really fit the description of Katniss, that would be okay and perfectly fine. From what I read, she really doesn't. But there's pointing this out and then there's basically calling her fat! Link.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy comments that Lawrence’s “lingering baby fat shows here.” And—most bluntly—Hollywood Elsewhere’s Jeffrey Wells calls Lawrence a “fairly tall, big-boned lady” who’s “too big” for Josh Hutcherson, who plays Katniss’s romantic interest. (In case the message didn’t come through: Wells thinks Jennifer Lawrence is BIG. He also thinks we should be wary of “certain female critics” who “may be susceptible to the lore of this young-female-adult-propelled franchise.”)

Wow. Just wow! What the fuckity fuck! As some of the commenters pointed out, why is only Jennifer Lawrence the target here? What about the male actors? Not one word about them, only Jennifer's body is dissed!

I loved this comment by Paige Junge:

I agree that if the casting director were striving for pinpoint accuracy, JL wouldn't have been the first choice - but it's obvious by the selection of other actors that they really didn't care about physical accuracy.
Since that's the case - and pretty obvious - why aren't the critics pointing out the same misaligned casting issues with the other characters? Why is it just Katniss?
Stanley Tucci's skin was supposed to be blue and President Snow was supposed to look as plastic as a Ken doll, not old, wise, and bearded. And Woody Harrelson is just way too clean cut to be Hamich. He supposed to be one step up from cliche hobo-style guy.
So I think, yeah it is a little odd that it's female's body that under scrutiny (yes I know, she's the main character...but if a critic is going for accuracy, go for full accuracy!)

I really hope Jennifer is strong enough mentally to take this, that she won't fall victim to their body image issues - because, yes, it's THEIR issues. She's perfectly fine! More than fine!
