Oh, the irony. At the beginning of this season, Chin was the one with the blemished reputation. At the end of the season, he's seemingly the only righteous guy left, with everybody else disgraced. What a turn.

Though I was really surprised that Danny could think that Chin would betray them and work against them with the cops. Dude, Danny! Think! On the other hand, Danny's been thinking with his dick in these last few eps anyway, so, no surprise there.

The twist with the governor! Wo Fat! McGarrett and Kono arrested! 5-0 disbanded. Christ on a cracker!

My love for Chin Ho Kelly knows no bounds, seriously. The reveal that it was his uncle who took the money and Chin let everybody blame him to protect his aunt, it was simply wonderful. That's so like him: stoic, protective, self-sacrificing. This man is simply perfect.

I think my favorite thing about the show - besides the team spirit - is the relationship between Chin and Kono. She's so protective of him, so angry that people think he's a crook. It's just wonderful. Though I have to wonder, just HOW BIG is their family? O.o It's like the whole of Waikiki is populated by their cousins and aunts and uncles! O.o
katikat: (S_H50)
I really liked the episode with the tsunami. Not just the twist at the end, the thing with the money, but for the first time it felt to me like they were a close-knit team, with deep secrets never to be shared with outsiders. It was them against the world and that was all kinds of amazing.

Also, I really love Chin and Malia. They're the cutest. They're still so very much in love and it just warms the heart. And every time Chin sees Malia or just talks about her, he becomes so... mellow and smiley and it's just wonderful! And yeah, I know how their relationship ends and that's just heartbreaking...
katikat: (S_H50)
I loved the part in 111 where we learned about Malia, the love of Chin's life. They were simply precious together, until... well, the S2 finale/S3 premiere, that was incredibly sad...

But 112 was my favorite episode so far, the one where Victor Hess took Chin hostage and put a bomb on him. I loved that the team was willing to do anything to save him, that was wonderful. And I just adore those emotional scenes between Chin and Kono, they make me very happy. I admired Chin's stoicism in the face of his certainty that Hess would kill him, no matter what. He knew it and he was scared but he also accepted his fate and didn't want anyone to suffer or risk for him.

God, I adore Chin Ho Kelly. If you haven't noticed yet ;)

I have never liked Steve much but episode 107 made me literally annoyed, the way they wrote him like some one-person Rambo squad, all "get out of my way, I'm an ex-Seal, I'm better than a whole squad of SWAT people!" Jesus! Also, Steve's sister rubs me wrong like whoa. But in this case, it's all on the actress, Taryn Manning. Ugh.

What I adored on the other hand, was episode 103, the one with Chin and Kono's cousin. When he accused Chin of being dirty and ran him out of the interrogation room... The way Chin gripped the handles on the glass door, breathing hard, when he thought he was alone - and then Kono was there and he immediately pulled himself together. It hurts him so bad that people think badly of him but he pretends to be stoic about it...

Another ep I loved was 108, the one where Danny's old partner was killed and accused of taking bribes. The way Danny became so angry at Steve for not believing him, for not trusting him that the guy was a good cop. I loved that Chin had Danny's back against both Steve and Kono in this case. And that Danny, now that he saw what IA could do to a cop, told Chin that he was sorry that nobody had his back back then... Danny didn't trust Chin 100% in the pilot, you could see it from his expression, but now that he was the one fighting for someone who was not dirty, no way, and against all odds, I think it finally clicked for him and from that moment on, he stood by Chin all the way.

Also, seriously, the product placement for Bing was so painful, oi!

Finally got my hands on S2 - only to realize I completely forgot what happened in S1, of course. Yeah, still not a fan of Alex O'Loughlin or Steve McGarrett, but I love Danny Williams and his choleric outbursts of rage; they're so hilarious you have to watch them several times in a row to properly enjoy them. But especially, I love Chin Ho Kelly and his cousin Kono. IMHO, Chin has the best storylines and I love how stoic he is in the face of what happened to him, the accusation that he took money. And I love that Kono always stood by him and never wavered, not for a minute, she always trusted him even when other cops and their family did not. And that's all kinds of amazing.

My favorite scene in the first two eps - besides all the ones where Danny yells at Steve, those are amazing - is the one in 102, where Chin refuses to come to Kono's graduation ceremony to spare her the shame of being associated with him - and her steadfast refusal to be ashamed of him.

○ CBS renewed 18 shows for 2014-2015: link. Among them NCIS, NCIS:LA, Criminal Minds, CSI, Elementary, Hawaii 5-0 and Person of Interest. The Big Bang Theory was picked up for 3 seasons! No news about The Mentalist, though, even though it's been beating The Good Wife in the ratings every Sunday. Grr!

○ Apparently, Captain America 3 will go head to head with Batman/Superman on May 6, 2016: link. Sheesh, that will be a massacre!

○ Syfy is planning a limited, six hour long space opera series called Ascension, "a thriller about a murder aboard a 100-year voyage from Earth": link.

I really don't like the stunt casting in this show. P. Diddy? Really? And from what I read, in S2&3 it gets even worse. I mean, models? I get it, beautiful beaches, warmth and sun... But really? IMHO, it really cheapens the show.

That said, I really liked the last few episodes of S1. Especially Chin's storyline, of course. I loved that the truth about his bribes and the money he was supposed to have taken finally came out. I feared that he actually took the money, for a good reason - like the team did to save Chin's life - but that he really did take it. I'm glad that he didn't. He's a very honorable man, isn't he? Which is why Danny's reaction in one of the last scenes of the season finale didn't sit right - I got that he was upset, but really? After everything, you doubt Chin? Chin's look... Once again falsely accused by friends. Bah!

I loved the twist with the governor, that was really cool and unexpected. Though poor Laura. It's too bad she kicked it. She and Chin would've been a beautiful couple :( I didn't like Danny and Rachel, though. Like, really? Danny would sleep with his married ex-wife? That lessened him a lot in my eyes. And poor Kono. Also, I don't know what to think of Jenna - I really love her but I also read some spoilers for S2 and... :(

So, to sum it up. My favorite character? Chin Ho Kelly. My favorite episode? 112, the one where Hess took Chin hostage. Will I be watching more? Hell yes! Need to get my hands on the S2 DVD box set ASAP!
katikat: (S_H50)
These few episodes were quite Danny centric, weren't they? First the ep with Rachel's husband, then the one with Danny's brother. I guess I get where they are headed with this and to be honest, I don't like it, this direction.

I quite like how mysterious Wo Fat is. He seems to know everything about Steve. I wonder what's that about. I know that he stays with the show for a good while, being the main bad and all, so...

I still like Chin best. Yes, I need to say it in every entry I make about this show. Because even in the lamest episodes, his scenes are like a ray of sunshine. The ep in the jungle, when Chin protected the witness, that was so cool! Or the eps I watched last night, the one with the tsunami warning, I adored that he called Malia to ask if she was okay. And then the scene in the car with Kono, when she asked him about their job, if he ever thought what his life would've been like if he had chosen a different job - I think he was serious when he told her that he thought about it every night. He looked so grim. I mean he turned the whole thing into a big joke, but you have to wonder... Did he mean it?

6 episodes to go and I'm done with S1. I don't have S2 on DVD yet.
katikat: (S_H50)
I have such a soft spot for Chin Ho Kelly like you wouldn't believe it. I'm so loving his storyline! Seriously, I couldn't give a flying monkey about Steve's mother and whatnot, but Chin and the accusations leveled against him, it's such a fascinating story! It also helps that he's so incredibly kind - and his computer wizardry is really hot! And I'm loving him and Malia. So far, they have had only one scene together but it was so sweet and I really want to know more about them!

Also, I loved the twist at the end of 115, the thing with the money they took to save Chin's life - BTW, that's still my favorite episode! - I didn't expect that at all, somehow I stayed unspoiled for the twist and it was awesome. Yikes! I also loved that all of them told Chin that, not matter what, they wouldn't change a thing, they would do it all over again if it saved his life. I really love this team feeling they have going. It's incredibly lovely.
katikat: (S_H50)

You know, it's so much easier to enjoy a series when you aren't personally invested in it. You can let so much crap slide that would otherwise rile you up. It's wonderful.

Regarding episodes 109-113, the four are starting to feel like a real team. It was especially obvious in 112, the "Chin and the bomb" episode. So much team feeling. I mean, they committed a felony to get the money for Chin's ransom. And no one protested - well, except for Chin, of course. When he told Steve, "it's not worth it..." ;_; Best episode yet. Yes, I love the bits that focus on Chin first and foremost - he's so strong yet so soft-spoken... Exactly my type!

And that also means that my favorite relationship is Chin and Kono's. They are cousins but they feel more like siblings, a brother and a sister. And it's wonderful. I just adore that she trusts him implicitly. Wonderful.

Also, I loved Wo Fat's introduction. I have been Mark Dacascos' fan since Crying Freeman. And Wo Fat's first few scenes... like an afterthought, low-key yet really THERE, like a spider in his web. Excellent.
katikat: (S_H50)
And back to H50. I have a pile of DVDs on my desk that I need to go through before I shelf them away. If I do it without watching them first, I won't get around to do it... ever!

The best part about this show is and always will be Daniel Dae Kim for me. Not only is the actor stunningly beautiful* but the character of Chin Ho Kelly is... like... \o/ No, really! I mean... *_* Such a lovable, sweet, gentle, kick-ass, strong man!

* See? *points to the left* He makes my heart go wild just like Tyler Hoechlin.

So far, it's not a bad show but I'm really not into Steve McGarrett. I don't know, Alex O'Loughlin rubs me the wrong way. I like Steve's bickering with Danno, that's hilarious, I won't lie, but I would really prefer if they scaled down Steve's part and showed more Chin and Kono.

Whom I literally can't stand is Steve's sister. OMG, the actress gives me the creeps. I hope to see as little as possible of her in future episodes.

I know that Steve/Danny is THE slash pairing in this fandom but I'm really not interested in it. If I wanted to read something, I would try to find something gen and/or Chin-centric. But with how obsessed the fandom is with Steve/Danny, I doubt anything like that even exists *skeptical*

Sarah Shahi was upped to a series regular on Person of Interest, just FYI: link.

Also, Person of Interest is moving to Tuesday 10 PM. Hawaii 5-0 to Friday 9 PM. Intelligence will air on Monday 10 PM. CBS' schedule can be found here: link.

Decided to try and get back into Hawaii 5-0. Yes, I'm determined to overlook things that made me roll my eyes or annoyed the heck out of me - police brutality, yo! - and focus on the good stuff. But, to be perfectly honest, the sole reason for why I bought S1 on DVD was one Chin Ho Kelly. I mean, just look at him!

I have had a weakness for Daniel Dae Kim since I saw him in Murder, She Wrote all the years back. What a pretty, pretty man. And I just love his arc, the corruption storyline. My heart breaks for him whenever his family - all of them but Kono - and other cops too shun him openly. He does desperate really well, doesn't he?

I like the bickering between Steve and Danny but I prefer Danny over Steve. Steve is too much of a Marty-Sue for my liking. And Kono is cute but way, way too skinny to be throwing guys twice as heavy as her around. Also, am I the only one who is really annoyed by Steve's sister? :-/

So, Chin *_* He does stuff to me! To see him on his bike... kicking ass and taking names... Man! What a fantastic specimen of a guy *_*

My opinion on the backdoor pilot! )

CBS renewed 14 shows today! Among them: NCIS: LA, Hawaii 5-0, The Mentalist, Elementary, Good Wife and Person of Interest: source. This time around, the only show I feared for was The Mentalist. Since the move to Sunday, the ratings dropped like a stone. So, YAY!
katikat: (S_NCISLA)
The two-hour finale airs next week, so I decided to finally catch up on NCIS:LA and the xover with H50...

Spoilers! )

I'm really looking forward to the season finale because the promo looks quite intense: link. Man, I love both the partnerships so much. I can't remember the last time I didn't mind switching focus between 'ships!
katikat: (ncisla-dvd)
I love the promo for the NCIS:LA/H50 xover: link. Looks fantastic, so much action and humor! And the best thing? Spoilers! ) Really looking forward to this event!
katikat: (S_NCISLA)
So, this season, there will be an official crossover episode between H50 and NCIS:LA, taking place in Hawaii? Link. Eh. I adore NCIS:LA but not enough to suffer through H50 for it. I wonder if they are a) desperate to get NCIS:LA's audience into H50 and beat Castle or b) gauging interest and planning to move H50 to Tuesday 10pm...

I wish I liked H50 - I had high hopes for the show - alas, no cigar for me...
katikat: (h50)
According to TVbtN, CBS will renew Hawaii 5-0, Mike&Molly and Blue Bloods for S2 on Wednesday. Congratulations to their fans!

And I'm really disappointed by USA new summer series. After Fairly Legal failed to catch my interest, I hoped for something... great *sigh* But both Suits and Necessary Roughness don't seem... all that good? Suits looks pretty much like WhiCo 2.0 and NR is a weekly tearjerker. I will give a try to Suits, it might surprise me even though I hate shows about lawyers, but I think I'll pass on NR altogether. Meh.
katikat: (h50)
... What my biggest problem with Hawaii 5-0 is. I think that Alex O'Loughlin is an arrogant ass. There, I said it. I'm sorry, fans, but that's how I see him. And his latest comment cemented my opinion of him: "The week-to-week stuff is boring, formulaic. For some reason, people tune in because they can tune out when they tune in. The arc is the stuff we love as actors." Is he for real? Well, I'm sorry if you find the week-to-week stuff boring, Mr. O'Loughlin, but that's not a way to talk about your own show.
