Okay, hm. I wanted to marathon Fringe S5 - and ended up watching eps 101+102 of Being Human US. Someone care to explain to me how that happened? *scratches head*

I DL'd the whole S1 because I got this sudden craving to see it. I don't know why, I've never before felt any need to watch it. Well, it might have had something to do with my falling head over heels for Aidan Turner. Which lead me to DL Being Human UK. And then suddenly, I wanted to see BHUS first. Why? Because I don't like the US characters as much, I prefer the UK ones. Twisted logic, I know, but I was honestly afraid that if I watched the UK version first, I might end up not liking the US version at all. See? Logic. And since the US version goes its own way starting S2, I wanted to be able to watch both shows. Yes, my brain works mysterious ways.

I also DL'd the first season of Copper. Not that that has anything to do with BH, either version. Just thought I would mention it. Because I love Kyle Schmid. And DL'ing that made me want to watch Zerophilia again. Because of Kyle Schmid, of course. And Blood Ties. Which made me want to finally finish reading the book series. And maybe re-read the Shadow series too. Mysterious ways, see? Some of the jumps my brain makes astound even me. But maybe not this time since Kyle Schmid has a recurring part in BHUS S3. Huh.

But back to BHUS 101+102:
- not bad, though a bit cheap looking.
- I like Sally. She reminds me a lot of Claudia from W13, she has the same way of talking, a really similar voice, similar mannerism. Maybe that's why I like her so much.
- Regarding Aidan and Josh, I really hope they tone down the woe-is-me, it's slightly annoying when all they do is moan about being a vampire and a werewolf respectively.
- And yes, Mark Pellegrino's playing a creep - what else is new. Though the way he watched Aidan while Aidan fed from that half-naked girl was... quite hot in a very disturbing way O.o

Why didn't I know about this? This will definitely make me watch Being Human US S2!

Casting spoilers! )

Wait! That means I should actually watch S1 first, right?

When Rachel brandished her retractable baton and smacked the culprit around - wow, that was hot! Not the violence per se, the weapon. And no, I'm not talking in Freud's "phallic symbol" terms. It's the perfect weapon for a woman. With little skills, she can beat a much larger and stronger man with it and it's small enough to hide in a larger purse. I don't know if it's a legal weapon or not, but if I was writing an original story with a main female heroine, this baton would be her weapon of choice - just like it was Vicki Nelson's in the TV show Blood Ties.

Hey, I didn't know that Dan Shea, the SG-1 stunt coordinator and "Sgt. Siler" in one, is now the stunt coordinator on Psych! How cool is that? I mean, it reminds me of when I found out that Andy Mikita, the SG-1 and SGA director, directed some eps of Blood Ties too! Yes, it's a small world :P

So, they are finally bringing Blood Ties out on DVD. But! They split the 22 episodes that are everywhere but on Lifetime considered one season into two box sets: the first one will contain 12 episodes, the second one 10. The first one will be out on June 2nd and it will include a behind the scene featurette as a bonus material - and it'll cost $26.99!!! That means that the so called S2 will cost around 20 bucks too! Are they crazy? Sorry, but not even the featurette, the only bonus material, is worth this amount of money. I'm now very glad that I bought the R2 version last year: I got the whole show for not even 9 pounds! Ha! X(

So, last night, I found out that I couldn't play the first DVD in my Eureka S2 box set. When I pulled it out of the box, it was a bit scratched but when I tried to play one of the eps, it worked just fine so I shrugged it off. But last night, I tried the bonus features and it started to stutter in the player and the screen froze. Well, I thought that it was the scratch and if I could copy the DVD, it would work just fine - to explain: I live in Central Europe and the return costs of the DVD would be huge - but when I tried it, all I got was "Cyclic Redundant Check" (whatever that means). The other DVDs in the box copied just fine.

And so I wrote to Amazon. I couldn't just return the DVDs because my window expired on Aug. 16th. But their customer service was amazing. They apologized, refunded me, assured me that I don't have to return the DVDs since the costs would be abhorrent and ordered a new set for me immediately. All that within 12 hours! I was floored. I left them a thank you feedback for their helpful services. I'm still pleasantly surprised.

And since I'm talking about Amazon and DVDs already, I took a look at my Blood Ties DVDs (after the Eureka disaster, I became paranoid!) and oh my, the quality is amazing! And the song playing with the menus... I will have to look it up! Oh, and I found out that Andy Mikita directed 3 eps of BT and Peter DeLuise 1! It's a small world...

I'm now the proud owner of the Blood Ties DVD box set! I wanted to wait and buy it when it comes out in the US but they still haven't set a date. Last year, they said that the DVD would come out this summer but so far zip. And so, I bought it from the UK Amazon. True, there are no extras - though I doubt that the US version will have any either - but they offered 78% discount, so I paid 13 pounds for it, shipping and VAT incl. That's not bad at all :)

And you learn some very cute things. Like when Amanda Tapping did the commentary with Martin Wood and she said that the SGA actors were such a great bunch of people and so tight that she was really careful not to disrupt their working relationship. They, the actors, were all so nervous when they found out that TPTB nabbed Amanda, because it was Amanda Tapping! But they all came to her trailer, one by one, and welcomed her on board and she thought that it was really amazing and thoughtful.

Another thing we learn is that Mark Dacascos is one of the nicest men the director, I think it was William Warring, ever worked with and that the stunt coordinator BamBam worked with Mark D. on The Crow. It's awesome to hear a thing like that! I've been Mark's fan since I saw him in Crying Freeman!

Other tidbits:
- Joe Flanigan dislikes Sheppard being all "earnest", as they said. Joe thinks that Sheppard is really awkward when it comes to emotional stuff so when he was asked if Sheppard and McKay would ever hug he answered "Over my dead body!" XD Yes, Sheppard doesn't accept a hug from Teyla well, so can you see him hugging McKay? :D
- The writers also love to hear David Hewlett prattle on so they give him nonsensical monologues just to see what he would do with it. And David Nykel and David Hewlett love to work together and everybody thinks that they are simply great on-screen!

Hey, Blood Ties is out on DVD in the UK and for 9Ł only! But there are no extras on the set. I wonder if I should wait for the R1 release - whenever that might come - and hope that there will be some bonus worth the wait. I mean, they promised us a soundtrack bonus...

And my Eureka S2 DVDs are here! *swoons* I predict much DVD watching in my near future :) Which reminds me, I need some Eureka icons!

I'm not really into fanfiction these days, writing it or reading it. I entered yet another book!phase but this fic, I needed to read and rec:

"Dante's Prayer" by [livejournal.com profile] henchgirl. It's a Supernatural/Blood Ties xover, the latest part of her series that features the Henry/Dean pairing. In this story, Sam calls Henry, telling him about the deal Dean made, and asks for help. The fic made me actually cry... Especially this part: He can be Horatio, he can remember whys and hows and most importantly who, and live to tell the stories of a green-eyed boy with a black muscle car and a gun in his waistband, a hunter and a hustler, who's seen too much and given too much, who's saved hundreds of people that never even knew his name. Fantastic! Go and read and leave a comment! :)

I usually don't make any NY resolutions but this year, I decided to make an exception...
a) I want to have at least 100 reviews in my GoodReads account by the end of 2008 and
b) I want to finish my Charmed table.

Some good stories that I read last night while waiting for midnight to come...

[livejournal.com profile] lyra_wing's Supernatural story "To Catch a Thief", a prequel to the author's FBI 'verse where Sam and Dean head a special FBI unit.

[livejournal.com profile] spikedluv's Blood Ties TV 'verse fic "Forget Me Not". Someone -- or something -- appears to have made Henry Fitzroy lose his memory. While Vicki searches for the cause, Detective Mike Celluci is drafted to keep Henry safe. This one made me actually shed a tear *sniff*

You know, I actually don't mind the writer's strike anymore. At least I have the time to catch up on old series or try again some that I dropped - like Moonlight (yes, Jason Dohring is that awesome!).

I decided to try and be more zen about stuff this year. The only fannish thing that gets my blood boiling with annoyance bordering on anger these days is one Bela Talbot. Everything else falls under the zen-category :D

If I heard right while listening to the audio commentaries to Psych, one episode of this series doesn't cost more that 300 000 $! So basically, one season isn't more than 5 mil. USD. Wow, that's cheap! The whole Blood Ties show's budget was only 3 mil. USD while Supernatural's one season budget was 40+ mil. USD. Wow, that's a difference!

I love to listen to podbooks while playing mahjong on my computer! That's one of the most relaxing things I know...

I started reading Tohko Mizuno's "In a Distant Time". It's the manga version of the anime Haru Kanaru Toki no Naka de... that I was so obsessed with some time ago. So far, it's quite cute :)

About the whole flagging thingy...

LJ team member Marta said: "There are process in place to avoid malicious reporting. If a user is overreporting content or repeatedly reporting content which does not fit standards the 'flags' from that user will not be seen by the Abuse Prevention Team, nor count towards the threshold to have it reviewed."

About Blood Ties...

Author Tanya Huff has received a message from Lifetime TV indicating that the final two episodes of the season will air online. She was asked to get the news out to the fans, so she posted the message on her blog.

Oh my, I want to squee and yell and flail. Blood Ties and Chuck, their latest episodes were made of awesome. Hands down, the best episodes in both series up to date!

Spoilers for Blood Ties ep 2x07 )

The best ep yet! BT is honestly the best vampire show I've ever watched. It's so low budget that the actors have to have great charisma to keep it going and wow, they do. Christina Cox rocks and her Vicki is one of my most favorite lead female characters. Kyle Schmid as Henry is just... wow, he's gorgeous. And Dylan Neal? So hot! Yeah, and then there is Gina Holden as Correen and the only weak link in my opinion because she's way too old for the part and it shows :( But otherwise a must-see!

Spoilers for Chuck 1x10 )

And did you know that both Zachary Levi and Adam Baldwin are 6'4"? 1.93 m?! Oh wow! Can you imagine how tall the girls have to be to not look tiny next to them? O.O

Wah! My eMule download stopped 10 kB!!! shy of 100%! Grr!

I think that all the Blood Ties lovers on my flist need to see this song vid on YT. Beware, spoilers for ep 5:55!

The promo for next week's Supernatural makes me feel all kind of giddy. It looks amazing!

Fic recs!

CWRPS:
SLASH --> "10 Years" by [livejournal.com profile] jelloh0530. Jared and Jensen were happy together and so in love. But then, Jared called Jensen and told him that he was not sure if he still loved Jensen. This will make you cry!

SLASH --> "Try Not to Breath" by [livejournal.com profile] nu_breed. Jensen always crushes on straight boys. Jared always flirts. Jensen thinks too much. Jared doesn’t really think at all.

Supernatural:
WINCEST --> "Loud and Clear" by astolat. Dean is thinking about his life. There is a twist at the very end that makes you go all AWW...

GEN --> "There's Just One Thing" by [livejournal.com profile] ficwriter1966. Dean's paid a visit to the eye doctor -- and Sam has to deal with the whining. Starts really funny but then it makes you wibble.

GEN --> "Chickenpox" by alphabet. The boys have chickenpox. Short and hilarious!

So, last night? I watched three episodes of Blood Ties in a row and that show rulez at life! I mean, I know that it's different from the books - I did read some of them - but when you watch it as something stand-alone with no ties to the books, it's a really good show. Definitely better than Moonlight!

And it makes me wonder why Lifetime actually left out the gay part... I mean, Christina Cox played a lesbian in a movie, Dylan Neal played a gay on Dawson's Creek, IIRC, so it couldn't be the actors... But on the other hand, it doesn't actually surprise me that they didn't make Henry omni-sexual *lol* like in the books because American networks do tend to shy away from homosexuality themes...

Anywayz! I love Kyle Schmid as Henry *points at her icon* He is great and I love his smugness whenever he has to deal with Mike :D He's excellent!

They can't cancel this show *iz scared* I mean, I know that they made only 20 eps to begin with and they never said that they would make more but... but...

Which reminds me that I really need to buy the last book in Huff's "Smoke and..." series. Too bad that it's only a trilogy. Tony deserves a proper - and long - series of his own *pouts*

Today, I received "Supernatural: The Official Companion, Season 1" by Nicholas Knight. Looks great! *happy*

I'm trying to catch up on Blood Ties - while putting together my wolf jigsaw puzzle - and so far, I finished watching ep 1x08. Only 5 more eps and I'm up-to-date. Hurray. Though I'm afraid that this series won't last more than one season which is too bad because I adore Henry. Kyle Schmid is so sexy!

I started editing "Dragons of a Fallen Sun". Somebody, please kill me! *groans*

I had to stop reading "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman for a bit. This book is really not for me. I love stories with more action and less philosophy. But I will finish it! I've already like 10 books started which is unacceptable! X(

Instead, I picked up "Hellgate: Exodus" by Mel Odom. That's what I call action. From demons to Templars to special forces to poachers in the African bush XD
katikat: (Default)
You know, folks, I usually don't go for the Xovers but here, I made an exception...

Xover --> Supernatural/Blood Ties, SLASH, Henry/Dean:
[livejournal.com profile] henchgirl's series...
"Eavesdropping"
"Things Henry Won't Do For Vicki Nelson"
"Henry's Kitchen"
"... And Dream of Sheep"
So, Dean meets Henry while Sam is away at Stanford and even though Dean is not gay, he starts and on-and-off relationship with Henry. Very light, non-angsty story. Can you imagine two such hot men together in bed 8)

I just finished writing my second RPF story... It's called "Feeling Blue" and it's Jared and Jensen talking in a bar. Angsty! I should be actually working on my Gorgeous Carat fic but sheesh, whatever :D

And it looks like my Psych story "Wrong, All Wrong" is pretty popular over on ff.net O.O okay, that I really didn't expect...

On the Amazon front, I ordered "La Esperanca 5" because I really need to catch up and finish at least one of the series that I'm buying. And some boy angsting and loving in a catholic school is always good for the soul :D
