Eureka S2

Finished Eureka S2 on DVD. It started so promising, what with the conflict between Henry and Carter, then it devolved into such a convoluted mess with the artifact and Kevin and Allison and Stark's secrets...

I didn't give a flying banana about Kevin, to be honest. And the fact that Allison and Nathan almost killed dozens of people, actually killed some of them with their agenda, because they kept quiet about what they were doing - and there were absolutely no consequences... Dear God! Allison had absolutely no place at the head of Global Dynamics! She wasn't thinking straight, she wasn't objective at all! She put the life of her son above everyone in the company, in the town. And though it's understandable for a mother, it's NOT understandable for a person responsible for thousands of people!

And then the introduction of Zane, as obnoxious guy as I've ever seen! Because, of course, Jo couldn't be with Taggart - this pairing would've been hilarious, interesting and original! - they had to give her a Pretty Boy Marty Stu. For real?!

And Henry and Carter's conflict, the fact that Henry deleted Carter's memory... again, not consequences. Wow.

As I said, the season started so well and the episodic plots were interesting and funny, but the arcs... I was so disappointed. And bored!

The reveal that Nathan was Henry's student and protege, that it was he who brought Henry to Eureka and then sheltered him from bureaucracy so that Henry could focus on pure science... That was really something. It just showed how deep the character of Nathan is.

One of my favorite pairings in the whole show was Jo/Taggart. They were the perfect balance of hilarious and awesome. It's just too bad that the writers then decided to go the traditional way with Jo and gave her a young Marty Stu. Eh. I very much preferred Taggart.

I felt so sorry for Henry in the season finale. For everybody, actually. What they lost without realizing it. Heartbreaking. And Kim was such an awesome character. The season finale was really, really good, though. Both thumbs up.

Funny thing: most disasters in Eureka start with someone yelling, "FARGO!" He's like Dexter's Deedee with her "Woo, what does this button do?" attitude.

I really like Nathan Stark. He's an arrogant, pompous, selfish ass. But he's also a good man. Like in the episode with the AI he built: the tears in his eyes... it really felt like he lost a son.

I like the arc with the artifact. Intriguing.

Funniest thing? Carter using his common sense and outsmarting the brainiacs week in, week out.

Most touching thing? The episode with the death ray. Carter gaining the old man's memories and not being able to let go. That was actually really sad.

3 eps to go!

Wanted to watch some sci-fi but something lighthearted and funny. Star Trek is awesome and stuff but every episode feels like an afterschool special, there to teach you a lesson. And that's cool but... kinda too much in large doses. And thus, Eureka was selected.

Carter is my man! I love his sarcastic self so much. And I love that he's smart in a very normal human way. He doesn't over-think things. Like when Henry's gizmo started flashing and making weird noises and Henry didn't know what to do with it, Carter just told him to pull out the batteries. And Henry was all, why didn't I think of that? LOL!

Speaking of Henry, I love his friendship with Carter. It's so, so wonderful. And I also love that he basically covers every position in this town, from a car mechanic to a coroner, LOL!

Another great character? SARAH. SARAH is awesome! I wouldn't mind having a SARAH of my very own. I LOL'd so much when Carter had to apologize to her for being late for dinner, when he stroke her door repentantly.

And Taggart! LOL! Just... Taggart! When he hit Vincent while trying to shoot the dog. LOL!

One of the best scenes? The last one in the pilot. When Henry's engine fell through the roof of the sheriff's office and it didn't surprise Carter or Jo at all. Just, call Henry. LOL!

And now on to the Christmas episodes of Eureka, Warehouse 13 and Haven. The only show I was up-to-date with was Haven - which I also enjoyed the most! Eureka had me a bit confused, I didn't know some of the characters since I'm pretty much stuck somewhere in S2. Warehouse 13 I liked the least, I think.

Reply with "Brand new world!" and I'll give you four fandoms. Write about your favorite character from each fandom.

[livejournal.com profile] megan_moonlight gave me these:

Eureka:

Sheriff Jack Carter

He's the only normal person in the whole nutty town. Instead of overthinking things, he goes back to the basics. A computer is threatening to blow up the whole town and we can't overwrite his programming or hack it or anything? Well, why don't we just, I don't know, unplug it? I just adore his dry, down-to-earth humor.

Runner-ups: Henry Deacon, Jo Lupo

NCIS:LA:

NCIS Special Agent G Callen

I have a weakness for Chris O'Donnell, that's one thing. But mostly, it's because Callen is a woobie and Sam Hanna, his partner and best friend, is so protective of him! Yes, I adore that.

Runner-ups: Hetty Lang, Sam Hanna

The Big Bang Theory:

Sheldon Cooper

It's Sheldon! He can insult you in such a smart way that you might not even notice. He's definitely the highlight of the series. I especially loved all the scenes he had with Leonard's mom!

Runner-ups: Leonard Hofstadter, Beverly Hofstadter

Star Trek:

Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy

Be it the old show or the new reboot, I love Bones - though I do prefer Karl Urban's Bones, he's HOT! His wit, his dry snarks, the way he always bristles like a cat when he doesn't like something or he thinks he's dealing with an idiot... LOL!

Runner-ups: Cpt. James T. Kirk, Spock

(Other ST shows? ST:TNG - William Riker; ST:DS9 - Julian Bashir; ST:Voy - Chakotay; ST:E - Charles "Trip" Tucker)

So, last week, SyFy canceled Eureka but ordered a 6 ep long S6 to wrap things up. Then they stated they hoped the franchise would NOT end with S6. And now? Now, they not just canceled the show, for real this time, they took back the 6 ep order too, so the show will end with S5. Link.

Well.

As TVBTN posted:

Syfy is looking to wrap Eureka with a six episode final season, according to Deadline.com. (...) The Eureka team is in the midst of wrapping filming of its 13 episode fifth season. Deadline.com reports that the six episodes are on top of that, and would begin filming in October.

There are still six episodes left to air of season 4.5, add that the the thirteen episodes from season 5 plus the six more that Syfy wants and that’s 25 episodes of Eureka left.

Wow, that's a shocker. This show's doing remarkably well in the ratings so I don't understand why SyFy's canning it. It's not like they have successful shows in abundance. I mean, I got stuck in S3.5 but from what I heard, it got really interesting in S4. Weird... On the other hand, I never understood the way SyFy scheduled it *hands*

ETA: Or maybe not? Confusion all around!

Many Happy Returns: Oh my gosh, I love SARAH so much. She's the perfect housewife. And I think she has a genuine soft spot for Carter, despite being "just" a computer. Oh, I loved it when Carter had to apologize to SARAH for being late for dinner, ha! And the house is amazing! I would love to live there. Well, I would miss windows and the outside is a little bit... ehm, well. But the interior is awesome!

Nathan Stark is gorgeous, slick and cool. He has a dark side, but mostly, he's simply cool.

And Carter and Henry. I LOL'd when Carter told Henry to pull out the batteries when that gizmo of his started doing wonky stuff and Henry was all, why didn't I think of that? Ha!

Funniest line? Carter: "I swear, if this is another Susan Perkins..."

Before I Forget: Tamlyn Tomita is a beautiful woman. Just sayin'. And she and Henry make a great couple!

My favorite part? Henry defending Carter after Carter shot him. Henry knew, he just knew that it couldn't be Carter's fault, no matter the evidence at hand...

Funniest line? Carter: "We're being Pucked with." LOL!

I decided to re-watch something I'm not really invested in, something light and humorous. I don't follow this fandom at all, nor do I read fanfics for this show. I don't really care about the who-with-whom etc., so...

Pilot: Jack Carter, the US Marshal turned small town sheriff, is my favorite character in the series. He's so down-to-earth, yet insightful. Usually, I like the "nerd" - but in a show full of nerds, I like the "jock" :P

I love Taggart and his obsession with that stupid mut.

Taggart: He's the devil himself. *walks away*
Jack: *mutters* Oh, yeah, he's stable.

The show is crazy, funny and smart, but my most favorite thing is the close friendship between Carter and Henry. Their relationship has its highs and lows but they are able to overcome all the bumps in the road and that's awesome.

But, to be honest, I don't like Zoe much. I mean, yeah, her dad neglected her but to be so insolent... Can you imagine telling your parent to "Shut up?" At 16? Is that normal among US teenagers?

I love Jo and her violent ways. If she can shoot something, she definitely will. LOL!

I'm really looking forward to this series. I stopped watching during S3.0, so I'm curious what's in store for me :)

Amazon US dropped the price of Supernatural S5 50% - it's down to $29.99 at the moment - so off in the basket it went, together with Eureka S3.5 which is down to $17.99 (40%). I plan to buy S3.0 from Amazon UK because there, it's even cheaper.

Also, I bought "Cadet Kirk" by Diane Carey, a ST:TOS prequel book. Sounded interesting.

And another also, I'm thinking of buying ST:TOS on DVD. I haven't seen the show yet. Would peeps who did see it recommend it to me? Amazon UK has it for £15.49 a season only, the remastered version. So... It could be a nice Xmas gift to myself.

Day 11 - A show that disappointed you:

SyFy's Eureka. It started so well. For a time, I was head over heels for the show. I loved the Carter/Allison/Nathan triangle, Carter and Nathan's bickering, the Jo/Taggart pairing... But then SOMETHING happened. First, they broke up Jo and Taggart and gave Jo a Marty-Sue boyfriend of her age. Then they basically wrote off Taggart completely. Then they started shipping Carter's daughter Zoe with her high school buddy and Zoe started behaving like a real teen brat. But the straw that broke the camel's back was when they killed off Nathan and made Allison pregnant, basically landing her in Carter's lap. In that moment, the show jumped the shark for me. And if that wasn't enough, they broke up S3 in the middle and let the show go on a 10 month long hiatus between 3.0 and 3.5 AND they broke it up for DVD too. That just irked me beyond belief. I might, MIGHT buy it one day and finish watching it, if the price for the DVDs drops - I hate to buy half-seasons - but I don't think I'll ever watch the show life again.

Other shows that disappointed me, moments when I just stopped watching: )

A gay movie first:

Timing: Colin Ferguson (“Eureka”, “Because I Said So”) has agreed to lead the ensemble cast of "Timing" in the role of Jesse. Sean Maher (“Serenity”, “Brian’s Song”) will play opposite him as Connor, Jesse’s love interest. The project will be filmed in Charlotte where the story takes place and is based on actual events from the life of Writer/Director A. Blaine Miller.

Logline: "Three Men and a Baby" if all the men were gay and the baby was 17. This story was inspired by actual events.

More info... )

Ha! Colin Ferguson aka Sheriff Carter from Eureka! And Sean Maher aka Simon from Firefly! As lovers! I mean, I loved Sean Maher as John Stamos' lover in Wedding Wars and now he'll play another gay character. Awesome!

CBS's planning a Criminal Minds spin-off! "Details are sketchy, but the spin-off is expected to feature a new team of FBI agents, not existing "Criminal Minds" characters."

I know that they started to plan that last season but then concentrated on NCIS:LA but now they went back to it. Awesome! I'm curious about the cast. I hope that they choose someone that I like!

SyFy reacts to GLAAD's "F" grade for its depiction of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender characters.

Well, I think that it's nice that there will be a married lesbian on SGU, that's true. But the other characters they mentioned... I mean, Vincent on Eureka is gay? Since when? Was it actually mentioned or do they base their opinion on the way he talks and behaves? And was it somehow used or is he just the "token gay character"? I like what some of the comments said about the article: When you have a gay character, use it somehow in the plot, otherwise it loses any meaning - it'll be like Mallozzi's belated "Oh, BTW, Vega was lesbian" weeks after SGA ended.

And since I'm talking about that - was it ever mentioned if the medic that Sheppard wanted to save in SGA's Vegas was a man or a woman? If I remember it right, it was pretty left to our imagination. I haven't seen the eps with the audio commentaries yet so maybe it'll be explained there... But I would prefer if they left it ambiguous.

Oh, BTW, who do you think was the other gay character on SGA? Mallozzi said that there was another one besides Vega. People's money was on Lorne or Zelenka.

Hey, Eureka was renewed for S4! I'm not downloading the new eps - the rest of S3, that is - but I think I will buy it on DVD when it comes out. I mean, I do have S1+2 so... I just hope that it won't appear only as the 3.0 and 3.1 version but as a whole season in one box set then later on, too. I can wait.

According to TVShowsOnDVD.com:
In a move that will remind fans of some Battlestar Galactica DVD releases, Universal Studios Home Video has informed retailers that they will sell the third season of Eureka in split-season sets, as befitting the show's 2008-09 broadcast schedule on the Sci Fi Channel (soon to be renamed "SyFy"). Today, retailers were informed that Eureka - Season 3.0 will come to DVD on June 30th, a short time prior to the the begin airdate for the second half of the 3rd season (episode airings start back up again on July 10th).

This will be a 2-DVD set with 8 episodes, running approx. 350 minutes. (...) Cost will be $29.98 SRP.

They want to split up a season that's only 16 episodes long? Are they totally bonkers or what? I mean, I like the show but I will think twice of buying these DVDs. To pay 30 bucks for 8 episodes regardless of the bonus features is crazy.

And the rest of S3 won't start until July? That's what? An 8 months break between the 1st and the 2nd half? I thought that Eureka was SyFy's best rated sci-fi show! In July, that's when usually a new season starts, not the 2nd half of it! Sheesh, and I thought that USA Network was nuts when they split Psych in half - at least they are putting the whole season in one box. Sheesh! *hands*
