Yay, Dylan O'Brien was just cast in a sci-fi movie The Maze Runner. He will play Thomas, "one of a group of teens who wake up in a maze with no memory of how they got there. He then searches for answers and a way out." The movie is based on James Dashner's novel trilogy. It was reported by Deadline; for obvious reasons I can't link to the article.

That's so, so great! I'm so happy for him. Seriously, it's slightly pathetic how fond I am of this kid - yes, kid, he's 10 years younger than me. I hope he has an awesome career ahead of him!

GI Joe 2!

Yes, I'm using Byung-hun Lee's character poster because I fell in love with Storm Shadow in this movie. Like HEAD OVER HEELS, TOTALLY SMITTEN, DOLPHIN NOISES in love! He had a much bigger part here than in the first film and he was GLORIOUS! Oh God, purrfection pure! I mean, it started with Channing Tatum's Duke and Dwayne Johnson's Roadblock - who were the best besties I've seen in a long time! - and then Byung-hun Lee came along and I was like Dwayne WHO?! For me, Storm Shadow didn't just steal the movie, he ran away with it! And can you believe that Byung-hun Lee is 43?!

Watch me wax poetics about the glory that's Storm Shadow! )

Oh, the sequel was already picked up! There will be a 3rd GI Joe movie! Hopefully with more Storm Shadow!

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters reached $200 mil. worldwide - and Paramount green-lit a sequel! Source. No details are available yet but - YAY! YAY! YAY! H&G is getting a sequel! Love me some Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton!
katikat: (F_HanselGretel)

Last week, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters crossed $200 mil. worldwide! It's now at $206 mil. which means it quadrupled its $50 mil. budget! For a movie everybody dissed and nobody believed in? AWESOME! Some movie sites even started mentioning the possibility of a sequel a la Resident Evil - not a huge hit but a steady performer. Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner admitted they would be willing to return for a sequel. I mean, why not? You could see they were having a blast!

Went to see Gangster Squad and LOVED IT! Gosh, I loved it so much. I'll be definitely getting it on DVD and maybe even buying the book. It was so good and surprisingly funny. I especially liked the friendship between O'Mara and Jerry. And the romance between Jerry and Grace. And when you think it's based on a true story!

Spoilers! )

Gosh, I really need to watch more Ryan Gosling movies. He's so gorgeous. And I think I might even get Young Hercules, just for him. Though I was really surprised by his very boyish voice :P I now can't wait to see the new Terrence Malick movie - I hope he and Michael Fassbender play lovers, that would be awesome.

... I think I love you a bit :)

Before, during and after the Sundance Film Festival premiere of "Kill Your Darlings" on Friday night (January 18), all anyone could talk about, so it seemed, was Daniel Radcliffe's sexual escapades.

Maybe it was because this erotically charged Beat Generation drama represents the 23-year-old's most high-profile film since he graduated from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Or, perhaps, it had something to do with the fact that in "Darlings," he plays the poet Allen Ginsberg and spends a fair amount of the film making out, having gay sex and masturbating.

But here's the thing: Radcliffe is totally cool with all of it — and he doesn't understand why so many others aren't.

Long-ish, so cut! )

Source

I now really want to see Kill Your Darlings. And I think I'll finally do it and watch the Harry Potter movies, just for him. I tried to watch them before but I couldn't even get through the first one, it bored me to tears. The same goes for the books, I managed 2 and... eh. But Daniel seems like an awesome person, so I guess I should give it another go :)

Tidbits

► Colin Morgan will appear in the 3rd episode of Gabriel Byrne's new TV series Quirke: source. Too bad he will be only guest-staring. I wish he joined something as a regular :(

Hansel & Gretel premiered in Russia last weekend, ahead of the rest of the world, the US included, and it got off on a very strong start with a $7 mil. weekend, beating even Django Unchained that also premiered there at the same time. Interesting.

► It's unlikely that Jack Reacher will have a sequel. It needed to reach $250 mil. worldwide to guarantee one and that didn't happen, so far it's earned $155 mil. Source.

► Noomi Rapace is now confirmed to star in Animal Rescue with Tom Hardy: source.

So, The Hobbit. I've seen it twice now and I'm head-over-heels, totally smitten with Aidan Turner. I know that everybody and their uncle is fawning over Thorin and Richard Armitage but I'm a Kili!girl. Which made me fall hard for Aidan Turner. Which made me order S1-3 of Being Human UK on DVD (the box set cost Ł15 only). And which makes me look forward to The Mortal Instruments like whoa!

I haven't read the books yet, but I can't wait to see it. Not because of Lily Collins' Clary Fray and her issues and her love story and what not. But because of these two:

&

Because of Lena Headey as Jocelyn Fray and Aidan Turner as Luke Garroway. Not only do I love them as actors, the best thing is that spoilers from IMDB! ) The funny thing is that based on the pictures, Aidan will sport a full beard in the movie - he'll be more bearded there than as a dwarf! LOL! So yeah, I guess it'll be like with me and Twilight - there I also cared more about Carlisle than about the main romance...

The trailer was just posted so it isn't on YT in its entirety yet - there's only a cut off bit there - but you can watch the whole thing here: link.

And it looks nuts. When Simon whispers "Elizabeth, I remember" with that grin on his face - sheesh, that's creepy! Why do I have this feeling that the theft, where the painting's hidden, won't be the only thing that Simon has forgotten? As Elizabeth says in the trailer, Simon locked the memory in an iron cage and she wants to force it open. Why does it feel to me like that's not the only memory he has locked in there? And that whatever he has forgotten will turn against the bad guys in the end?

It's too bad that Michael Fassbender had to drop the part of Franck - he and James would've been perfect together in this. Their chemistry is off the charts!

Bad news: JGL turned down the role of Star-Lord in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Bummer :( I'm looking forward to the movie but with him staring in it? I would have been over the moon with excitement! *sad sigh*

Good news: On the other hand, JGL signed up for Sin City: A Dame To Kill For: source. He took the part of Johnny, previously offered to Johnny Depp. He will also re-unite with Bruce Willis in it!

Gordon-Levitt will play Johnny, a cocky gambler who disguises a darker mission to destroy his most foul enemy at his best game.

“Johnny is a new character in the Sin City world and we are excited for what Joseph will bring to the role,” say directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller in a press release (it’s amazing how people can talk in unison in a press release).

“I love how the first movie uses VFX, not to make fake things look real, but to create a heightened world unburdened by the look and feel of reality,” adds Gordon-Levitt. “Plus, nobody makes a badass like Mr Rodriguez.”

Other actors already conformed include Mickey Rourke as Marv, Jessica Alba as Nancy, Rosario Dawson as Gail, Jaime King as Goldie/Wendy, Dennis Haysbert as Manute and Jamie Chung as Miho.

I still haven't seen the first Sin City - though I own it on DVD, as is my habit - but the twins love it, so... I guess this makes me excited - not as much as if he had joined GotG, but what can you do. This style suits him better, I think: not so flashy, rather dark and gritty. We will see how it goes...

Today, I saw these trailers in the cinema:

Django Unchained - boring. Nothing that I've seen or heard about this movie so far makes me want to actually see it.
The Master - BORING!!! I know that everybody and their uncle's praising it but it's obviously NOT my cuppa. Eh!
The Last Stand - Arnold Schwarzenegger has always been a bad actor but he has gotten even worse with age. But the movie looks surprisingly funny. And Jaime Alexander is in it! Maybe I'll give it a try, at least on DVD.

Also, I fished these out of Datart's cheap bin:

Rating: ♣ ♣ ♣ •

♦ More of a thriller than an action movie (whereas MI4 was more of an action movie than a thriller). I really liked the conspiracy part. Maybe I'm turning into a conspiracy movie/show fan? That would be weird. Not that there wasn't enough action and Tom Cruise was excellent in those scenes, kicking major ass, doing a lot of stunts himself - you could see it because most of them were shot from a close range, detailing his face. And I loved his fighting style - fast and dirty.

♦ The movie was also surprisingly funny. Tom Cruise makes the best faces. His expression just freezes and it's like there's a neon "WTF?!" sign flashing above his head.

♦ Rosamund Pike and Tom Cruise had a great chemistry. I read this wonderful interview with Rosamund in which she praised working with Tom and she had so many wonderful things to say about him: link. Honestly, I mean, I know his personal life is a mess but so far, I've only read good things about him from other actors.

♦ Jai Courtney was fantastic as Charlie the Bad Guy. So physical! He has an amazing on-screen presence. And he looks so much better with closely cut dark hair than with those blond curls he sported in Spartacus. I can't wait to see him in A Good Day to Die Hard as Bruce Willis' son! I hope he has a great career ahead of him!

So, to sum it up - it's worth seeing in the theaters, IMHO. The action scenes mixed with the sound effects were fantastic. And we actually LOL'd several times!

It looks like Universal is finally moving ahead with the big-screen adaptation of Kojak with Vin Diesel playing the main part and Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (Skyfall) penning the script. Diesel will also produce the movie. Man, Universal loves him a lot, don't they? I mean, he's heading their most successful franchise, Fast & Furious, after all!

I think he will be great in the part. He definitely has the looks, charisma and voice to pull it off. Now just to hope the script is good *crosses fingers* I wasn't at all enamored with Skyfall, it had its moments but as a whole, it was a dud for me. Let's hope the writers do better with Kojak.

Tom Hardy's attached to a movie called Animal Rescue - and now Noomi Rapace was offered the female lead! How awesome is that? These two seem to have so much fun together, it's sweet! I hope she takes the part, that would be awesome!

As Deadline.com says, Tom will play "a man who wants to shed his criminal path but somehow gets mixed up in a bad heist and a killing resulting from a lost and contested pit bull." He seems very excited about this film and about working with the director, Michael R. Roskam. Interesting...

You can watch the trailer for Tom Cruise's sci-fi Oblivion here: link. For some reason, it wouldn't embed. Oh well.

It looks really, really good. And Olga Kurylenko is in it. Too bad, Morgan Freeman is also in it. I hate that actor, what an arrogant, smug man. Icky. But, hey, Olga Kurylenko!!!
katikat: (F_POTC)

I'm so looking forward to this. It opens on Dec. 27 here, like MI4 did last year. I hope it's a hit. I really like it when Tom Cruise kicks major ass.

You know, Tom Cruise is one of the actors that I don't care about personally. As in, their personal life. I feel the same way about Will Smith, for example. But I adore his movies, especially the action driven ones because he is an amazing actor and I admire his dedication to his craft.
katikat: (Actors_TomHardy3)

Tom Hardy was cast in Ubisoft's film adaptation of the video game Splinter Cell. He will play Sam Fisher, who's "a special ops agent with a knack for high-tech gadgets and stealth infiltration. Along with his fellow agents in the secretive "Echelon" black-ops sub-division, Fisher neutralizes terrorist threats around the globe." Source.

How awesome is that? First Michael Fassbender in Assassin's Creed, now Tom Hardy in Splinter Cell. It's great to be a fan of these two super hard working actors. I mean, have you seen their workload? Sheesh on a pogo stick! Especially Fassbender. When does the guy actually sleep?

But then there are actors who make you a bit frustrated. Like James McAvoy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Both amazing, fantastic actors. But both have commitments elsewhere - James has a family and JGL his HitRECord company - so they are very picky when it comes to films. Don't get me wrong, 2012 was the year of JGL, 4 films in total in the cinemas! And 2013 will be a very big year for James McAvoy, with 5 movies out! But... I want to know more about their FUTURE projects too and there? Zip, nada. James has the sequel to XMFC and possibly that Assange movie. JGL NOTHING! Seriously, I need something to look forward to! Please? Pretty please? With a cherry on top! *paws sadly*

First trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones appeared. I'll just link it - link - not embed it because Viacom is going crazy, shutting down every reposted copy of it. That's something I don't get - don't you make a trailer to spread it among people and let them know about the movie? Make them interested? How does it help you to go after those who liked it enough to spread it further? I don't get it *hands*

But back to the trailer - it looks really good. And I like Lily Collins. I haven't read the books and I don't plan to read them either, at least not in the foreseeable future, but the trailer looks rather good. Really kick-ass.
katikat: (Actors_BenCumberbatch2)

Benedict Cumberbatch is in talks to join Gemma Arterton in the dark comedy Absolutely Anything: link. The movie "follows a teacher who discovers he has magical powers that allow him to wipe out classrooms of badly behaved students and bring people back to life. As he learns how to control these powers, he experiences a series of mishaps." LOL, this could be hilarious, especially since the Monthy Python crew is working on it :P
