Furious 7 just beat The Avengers and became the 3rd highest grossing movie of all time! link. I know that it'll be soon beaten by Jurassic World and probably The Avengers 2, too, but right now, it's sitting in the 3rd place, up there with Avatar and Titanic. And considering it's the only movie NOT in 3D up there, wow! Paul Walker would've been proud!

Tonight, I chose to watch GI Joe 2: Retaliation. And there were several things I really loved about it. Sure, as a whole it's rather silly. But Duke and Roadblock's friendship was a thing to behold! Just like Lady Jaye and Flint's possible ship - they reminded me of AoS' Huntingbird so much, especially since Adrianne Palicki is playing both Jaye and Bobbi! But my most favorite bit of all?

Byung-hun Lee aka Storm Shadow. Dear Jesus on a pogo stick! That man is so attractive my heart goes wild just from watching him. He is, hands down, one of the most attractive people I've ever seen. I was so happy that Storm Shadow turned out to be not so bad in this movie, actually a good guy for once! I wish to know more about him! And I would ship him with both Snake Eyes and Flint! Man, oh man, Storm Shadow! *dolphin noises* He made this movie for me. I went in for Channing Tatum and left a huge Byung-hun Lee fan! That's why I'm so happy he will be in The Magnificent Seven remake. He'll be either a bad guy or he'll die, I bet, but him and Matt Bomer in one movie together? Eeep!

Title: San Andreas (2015)

Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario

Rating: 3/5 or 6/10

A slightly above average disaster movie. The CGI was excellent and the characters very lovable, Ryan and Em, Blake, Ben and Ollie. There were fewer characters and fewer plotlines there than I'm used to in disaster movies, which I liked, but there was also nothing really original there, nothing that I haven't seen in other movies a dozen times over.

What really shone for me was Alexandra Daddario's character, Blake, and the trek she underwent with Ben and Ollie. Blake was brave and smart and, what was most important, knowledgeable. She knew what to do in a situation like that and she used her knowledge in the best way possible. And Ben and Ollie, the writers didn't make them any less... something, any less brave or smart to make Blake shine, they didn't pull them down to build her up, no, they were just as brave as she was - they just didn't possess the necessary knowledge. That's the right way to write a female character!

To sum it up, it was good to see it in the cinema, but it's nothing ground-breaking.

Title: Welcome to the Jungle/The Rundown (2003)

Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Seann William Scott, Rosario Dawson, Christopher Walken

Rating: 8/10

A hilarious action movie full of amazing stunts, lightning fast action scenes and LOL-tastic banter between the two main characters, Beck and Travis. And let's not forget the Scottish pilot with a bum leg and bagpipes! Hilarious. I think the funniest scene was the hallucination at the end, when the bad guys saw each other's ears wiggle, LOL! So funny.

But at the same time, very touching. I mean, there was only a handful of really serious, earnest moments in the movie, but they packed all the bigger punch for it. Like, when Beck fulfilled his promise and brought Travis back to his father, not at all interested in why the old man wanted his son back - and the first thing the father did was slap Travis so hard he almost fell over and Travis didn't even try to defend himself. Beck's expression!

Also, the audio commentary with Dwayne Johnson and the director was great. I loved the bit where Dwayne called Seann "my boy," hehe. And when they talked about just how many stuntmen got hurt making the movie. Well, ouch!

From me, thumbs up!

Yes, I'm using Byung-hun Lee's character poster because I fell in love with Storm Shadow in this movie. Like HEAD OVER HEELS, TOTALLY SMITTEN, DOLPHIN NOISES in love! He had a much bigger part here than in the first film and he was GLORIOUS! Oh God, purrfection pure! I mean, it started with Channing Tatum's Duke and Dwayne Johnson's Roadblock - who were the best besties I've seen in a long time! - and then Byung-hun Lee came along and I was like Dwayne WHO?! For me, Storm Shadow didn't just steal the movie, he ran away with it! And can you believe that Byung-hun Lee is 43?!

Watch me wax poetics about the glory that's Storm Shadow! )

Oh, the sequel was already picked up! There will be a 3rd GI Joe movie! Hopefully with more Storm Shadow!

Doom

Some time ago, me and a friend of mine had a bit of a row about movies based on computer games. She stanned for Resident Evil, I for Doom. The thing is, she said that in game movies, characters were disposable, the movie just had to feel like a computer game. I, on the other hand, couldn't care less if the movie is faithful to the game, I need characters to root for. We agreed on disagreeing, obviously.

Doom is in no way an excellent movie. It's an average sci-fi action flick with some very cheesy scenes (like the shooting sequence, shown from Reaper's POV, I could have really done without that!) but! It has amazing characters. By the end of the movie, I felt like I knew them. They were all so perfectly drawn, every one of them had a personality. And though I didn't like some of them - I loved the Sarge at the beginning, just not what became of him :( - I adored Reaper and Samantha and I so, so rooted for them to survive! The character I felt most sorry for was Duke. Duke was awesome!

I also liked the boot camp the actors had gone through which is one of the bonus features on the DVD. It's fun watching them bond...

And speaking of Reaper, I really need to read some Reaper!Bones ST:Reboot fics...

Looks good. At least the special effects, that is. And I love Dwayne Johnson. But I still hope that the reshoots with Channing Tatum mean that Duke won't bite it in the first 10 minutes. I mean, I get that he won't be there for most of the movie, that I don't mind - I just want him to SURVIVE! Don't kill him off or I'll be really, really pissed. I loved his Duke! I wouldn't mind him captured and secreted away somewhere, just a revelation of him in captivity somewhere at the very end, leading into movie #3. That would be perfect, actually. Just DON'T KILL HIM OFF!
