Fox just canceled Almost Human. Poor Karl Urban and Michael Ealy, they just can't catch a break.

Though I'm not surprised. Instead of hitting the ground running, the writers really fumbled it up. I know that Fox aired the episodes out of order so that the arcs made little sense, but even the episodic plots seemed boring to me. And I rooted for the show so much :( Oh well...

Don't forget, people! TOMORROW ON FOX!

That was great - but, sheesh, I can understand why it was rated hard R in the cinemas, talk about a hail of bullets and buckets of blood. It's so sad that it flopped completely, though, I would have loved a sequel. Because, graphic violence aside, it's a great movie with amazing women - out of the three main characters, two are women in non-traditional roles!

For me, the movie was a duel between Dredd and Ma-Ma. Karl Urban and Lena Headey were amazing in it. Great actors who have the worst luck in movies and shows. Lena's only big success is GoT, Karl's the ST and LotR movies. But I still love them a LOT, especially because they both make so many sci-fi/fantasy movies. Olivia Thirlby as Anderson was also awesome - and another actress with a bad luck in roles.

Also, I heard that The Raid had a similar premise - a cop caught in a tower with many bad guys. I think I will have to get it on DVD, then, because it's a quite fascinating action theme.

Great movie, I don't care what people say. And I still maintain that Benedict Cumberbatch was the best part of it. He was fantastic. He exuded so much menace, it was really, really scary! My favorite scene in the whole movie was the Khan vs. the Klingons fight. Wow, just WOW! I watched it like ten times in a row \o/

Regarding the character of Kirk, you can see that he really needed to grow up. He got the Enterprise at the end of the first movie, because a) the fleet was basically decimated and b) it was a PR stunt - he was the hero who saved Earth, after all. But Pike was right, he really wasn't up to it yet, he needed to grow up first. He was a good man who risked everything for his friends, but he wasn't mature enough yet. Throughout this movie, you could see him weighing his options more than once: what would the old me do vs. what would the wisest course of action be. Together with Pike he lost his training wheels.

The funniest thing? McCoy's awful flirting with Carol Marcus. LOL!

Also, whoever was responsible for the Czech dub should be fired on spot. Benedict's dub sounds like a castrate, so high-pitched. Terrible!

I love this movie! But not because of Bruce Willis, who is funny but who seems to play the same character over and over in his movies. I adore Helen Mirren and John Malkovich in this. But especially Karl Urban, whose character is basically the only "serious" or "normal" guy there.

Gosh, how much I love Karl Urban, let me count the ways! Man, he does it for me like few others out there. And in this movie, his charisma! He completely overshadows his much more famous co-stars. His on-screen presence is simply mind-blowing. And the development of his character over the course of the movie is simply perfect. And his "Fuck you, Cynthia" is oh so LOL-worthy! So, yeah, KARL URBAN!

Other than that, I really liked the relationship between Victoria and Ivan. That was so incredibly sweet *_* Lovely stuff.

Still haven't seen RED 2. Once I found out that Karl Urban wasn't in it, I lost interest. Now I want to see it only because of Byung-hun Lee, to be honest.

Now that was much better. Little Marie, Pamela present, Nicky having a bigger part and Karl Urban as Kirill. What's not to love? The shaky cam. No, just no. I very much prefer steady cam to shaky cam.

I loved the tension between Bourne and Kirill. They never actually met. They just glimpsed each other over some distance - and yet! It was amazing. Loved the car chase at the end, the one in Moscow. The moment Bourne and Kirill saw each other. Wow!

Another thing I loved about the movie how Jason kept one-upping Pamela's team. That was fantastic! I just adore it when heroes do that.

Though one thing made me wonder: why did they give Marton Csokas such a tiny part. He was in just one scene. His character had a fight with Bourne and Bourne killed him. I guess they needed an actor with real gravitas because he had to make an impression immediately. Oh, hey, Marton Csokas and Karl Urban were both in LotR! Marton as Galadriel's husband and Karl as Éomer!

Re-watched ST 2009 again. Wonderful, truly wonderful. I love JJ Abrams' style - it is the man who brought us Fringe, after all!

My favorite bits?

* The sequence that starts with McCoy bringing Kirk on board of the Enterprise. HILARIOUS and epic at the same time. Kirk's allergic reaction. McCoy's pursuit of him! And then Kirk being all smart and getting Pike to sound Red Alert and raise the shields which saved everybody's life.

* Kirk and Old!Spock meeting Scotty! Again, so cool and HILARIOUS! Simon Pegg's always funny but here he outdid himself!

I can't wait to get my hands on the new movie and watch Benedict do his thing again. He's breathtaking there *_*
katikat: (F_StarTrek)

DeForest Kelley vs. Karl Urban as Star Trek's Leonard 'Bones' McCoy! What a perfect choice, wasn't it?

I also got my hands on the Star Trek Into Darkness novel by Alan Dean Foster and so far, I'm loving it. The snark between Kirk and Bones while they run through the red forest is hilarious!

And you know what? Since the 2009 movie, when I read the ST:TOS tie-ins - very good books, BTW - I see the present actors in the roles, not the old ones. Because, as wonderful and intriguing as the old show was - and it really was the best ST - the acting was atrocious, especially William Shatner's. Chris Pine is so much better!
katikat: (Actors_BenCumberbatch2)

My reaction? Benedict, BENEDICT, BENEDICT, BENEDICT, BENEDICT!!! OH MY GOD, HE NAILED IT! Purrfection pure. Gosh... Whenever he was on-screen, I looked pretty much like this: ♥_____♥

Jim, I'm a doctor, not a ...! )

I would give it 9/10. Loved it! And I want to see it again next week, if possible! \o/

Looks good. Too bad that Karl Urban's Vaako only has a cameo. I hoped his part would be bigger :(

Folks! Folks! Fox gave a full season pick-up to JJ Abrams' new show Almost Human starring Karl Urban and Michael Ealy!!! EEEEEEEEE!

Almost Human (formerly known as Human, though apparently Almost Human is still only a working title) is the brainchild of former Fringe showrunner JH Wyman, and will be produced by Abrams’s Bad Robot production company. It stars Karl Urban, Michael Ealy and Lili Taylor in “an action-packed police drama set 35 years in the future, when police officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids. An unlikely connection is forged when a cop with an aversion to robots and a robot with unexpected emotional responses investigate cases in a brave new world.” Wyman, who wrote the pilot and serves as executive-produced by Wyman, along with JJ Abrams and Bryan Burk.

Star Trek Into Darkness is premiering today in Sydney and Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Karl Urban are there to promote the movie, together with JJ Abrams. And this is them goofing around on a beach. I just adore the bit where Zach is taking pictures of Chris and Karl. Also, Chris Pine looks AH-mazing!

Priest

Priest is visually stunning. The setting is quite breathtaking. And the story itself rather original. I don't think I have ever come across a vampire story like that. Other than that, though?

I had a hard time connecting with the characters on an emotional level. Not that I didn't like them, it's just... I don't know. What I did like was that the Priest and the Priestess didn't get together. That would've been totally OOC. Yes, she loved him, and yes, he had feelings for her too. But he was devoted to God first and foremost and she respected that. And it didn't mean they couldn't be friends and fight side by side. I really liked that. It was very... mature, I would say.

The highlight, though? Karl Urban as Black Hat. Oh. My. God! He has never been more attractive than in this movie. I mean, he played the villain but... Wow, just wow! Purrfection! *happy sigh*

Yay, they are already filming the pilot of the new JJ Abrams' show Human! I so hope that Fox picks it up. I need Karl Urban on TV!

KARL URBAN WAS JUST CAST IN JJ ABRAMS' NEW SCI-FI SHOW, HUMAN!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Just... EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! \O/ It'll air on Fox and he will play "John Kennex, a respected police officer who has shut down emotionally after a tragic mission left him critically injured. He is paired with Dorian (Michael Ealy), an android detective who, ironically, has a better grasp of humanity than he does." Source. KARL URBAN AND MICHAEL EALY!!! I wonder if Abrams offered him the part during the filming of Star Trek. To be a fly on the wall...

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Yes, the capslocks were necessary!

Doom

Some time ago, me and a friend of mine had a bit of a row about movies based on computer games. She stanned for Resident Evil, I for Doom. The thing is, she said that in game movies, characters were disposable, the movie just had to feel like a computer game. I, on the other hand, couldn't care less if the movie is faithful to the game, I need characters to root for. We agreed on disagreeing, obviously.

Doom is in no way an excellent movie. It's an average sci-fi action flick with some very cheesy scenes (like the shooting sequence, shown from Reaper's POV, I could have really done without that!) but! It has amazing characters. By the end of the movie, I felt like I knew them. They were all so perfectly drawn, every one of them had a personality. And though I didn't like some of them - I loved the Sarge at the beginning, just not what became of him :( - I adored Reaper and Samantha and I so, so rooted for them to survive! The character I felt most sorry for was Duke. Duke was awesome!

I also liked the boot camp the actors had gone through which is one of the bonus features on the DVD. It's fun watching them bond...

And speaking of Reaper, I really need to read some Reaper!Bones ST:Reboot fics...

This reminds me a bit of Thor: a great warrior with no humility. I wonder what it will cost Kirk to learn it. Gosh, I'm still rooting for Benedict's character, he's just so... handsome and cool and mysterious! And I wonder if he's fighting for his family too, what with his "Is there anything you wouldn't do for your family?"

Great trailer. Though I liked the teaser trailer better. It felt much more... dynamic. But gosh, Benedict! Chris Pine's blue eyes... Mwah!

Well f***!

So, not only won't they air Dredd here in the cinemas, they now dropped Premium Rush too, even though they aired trailers for it and hung up posters in the cinema. Well that's just great. That's the perfect way how to battle internet piracy - not show the movie at all and fuck the viewers. I'm so angry right now.

Remember what Karl Urban said a few days ago? About, you know, whom Benedict Cumberbatch is playing in the Star Trek sequel? Well, looks like it's not true: source (beware of SPOILERS).

TrekMovie.com: A couple of weeks ago you were on a radio show and you confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch is not playing spoilers ) in the sequel. Then last week Karl Urban says he is playing spoilers ). Both can’t be true.

Roberto Orci: All I can say is that when I did that radio interview I had just been doing 22 hours of press. I had just got off a flight from New Zealand…

TrekMovie.com: Nice callback, but are you sticking with your original comment and it isn’t spoilers ).

Roberto Orci: I would say that I never lie. While Karl tests all those hypo spray props on himself [laughs]

LOL! Okay, so did Karl Urban just troll the whole ST fanbase? Or is Roberto Orci turning himself into a liar to save the situation and keep fans guessing? Gosh, these guys... X)

Oh, Karl

So, apparently, in an unfortunate accident, Karl Urban revealed whom Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing in the upcoming Star Trek movie. It's spoilers! ). And that seems to have gotten him in trouble with JJ Abrams.

In an article for Ain't It Cool - link - he says:

Capone: I have to ask, how much hot water did you get in for that bit of news you let slip about STAR TREK 2 last week?

Karl Urban: I was afraid you were going to ask that. J.J. Abrams sent me something for Comic-Con this week and told me that anytime I was asked a question about STAR TREK, I had to do this... [Karl removes a long strip of masking tape with something written on it off the leg of his jeans, where it has been stuck since he walked in the room, then proceeds to do this, posing for my photograph quite willingly]

Oh, Karl. I must admit that I do regret that he revealed the info, I loved all the speculations flying around. It was fun. I just hope Abrams wasn't really pissed at him. I mean, Abrams tried so hard to keep it a secret... Oh, Karl, really?
