ComicBookMovie.com re-typed bits and pieces of an interview with Michael Fassbender that will appear in the new issue of Total Film:

“If they make enough money usually they make a sequel. They usually give you the first one and then two options. I’ve got some interesting ideas for Magneto, as does James [McAvoy] for Professor X.

“I know we really enjoyed working with each other and it would be great if we could get that original team back. James and I were getting sort of giddy with the prospect of the next one.

“I want to see how Professor X becomes Professor X because he’s starting his journey at the end of this film but I’ve made my transition into Magneto.”

“I’ve got the hat and I’m ready for action. I’ve got the purple helmet…”

I just love how Michael and James talk about each other, it's so incredibly sweet. That's why I think it's too bad that Michael had to give up his part in Trance, it would've been great seeing them together on-screen again... ;_;

And as much as I love XMFC, the purple "bug" helmet at the very end was awful, I hope they change it for the sequel. But it's kinda hilarious that even Michael's making fun of it :P

Great questions asked by the reporter and great answers from James: link. It's also the interview from which this part about Charles and Erik and Charles' situation in the XMFC sequel was taken: "He’s just been paralyzed and he’s been betrayed by the person who he’s probably come to care about more than anybody else in the world, and he’s the guy who did it to him."

This wonderful art is by atomic_clover, found on Tumblr.

James on Filth:

It’s a fantastic script. (...) This is a fantastic example of an adaptation, and it’s just a really, really good script. So, all those things were really appealing to me. It is such an out-there role that I have to just throw myself into. It could be fucking terrifying.

And on Trance:

We’ve got an amazing cast, with Vincent Cassel and Rosario Dawson, and they’ve just been lovely to work with. On a personal level and professionally, [Danny Boyle]’s just really special. The film is a real mind-bender, and it takes a lot of everybody being on it, so that nothing slips through the cracks. It is one of those films where, very easily, you can get confused about what you’re doing. But, we’ve had an excellent time.

And on Welcome to the Punch:

I play a guy called Max Lewinsky, who is a cop that is obsessed with this guy who got away from him and disabled him quite significantly as well. It’s about him and that guy, not settling their differences, but redefining the world so that they can actually live with both of them still alive in it. It’s an interesting action-thriller, buddy movie sort of thing. (...) It’s a really good story. It’s also an example of something that we don’t really do well in Britain – an action-thriller movie. It’s really, really good.

Welcome to the Punch is the movie I'm looking forward to most, I think. James McAvoy and Mark Strong in one film together. Could it be more awesome? And the fact that James really loves it and that he calls it a "buddy movie" makes me all the more excited!

You know, looking at James McAvoy's projects and at Michael Fassbender's... I really like Michael, he has an amazing presence, but I find James' projects more appealing at the moment. Michael's really into... deep, artistic stuff at the moment and I'm so not a fan of films like that. Give me a thriller any day.

There's an interview with James McAvoy, where he talks about XMFC and its sequel, about Charles' situation and where he would like to see his character in the next movie: link.

My favorite part:

I don't know where we find Erik — it's kind of defined at the end of the film that he's a bad guy. I can't really speak for him, but I know that with Charles, you either have to write him out of the movie or give him an interesting story. He can't just become the guy that we saw in the first three movies. He just had two major things happen to him. He's lost his best friend, essentially, and he's just been paralyzed from the waist down. Which is just a huge, huge blow to his considerable ego. So he's got to deal with that.

And I don't think we can just brush over that and go, "yeah I'm in a wheelchair now," because Professor X is in a wheelchair. You've got to deal with that, I don't care if he's a superhero and has brain powers or not, he's just had a huge part of his physical life taken away from him, by someone he cares about more than anyone else. So he's got to deal with that. That's part of the interesting ideas that we're talking about with Matthew [Vaughn], that Matthew's very excited about which I think is fantastic, but I can't really get into them with you because they may (or may not) form the spine of the story.

See the part I underlined? Hear me squee? Man, I love it when actors actually see what their audience sees and I don't care if you see them as lovers or best friends, they care about each other more than about anybody else. And yes, sometimes love doesn't conquer all, no matter what they say, but the love is undeniably there!

And:
I had a great time with Matthew and Michael, that was a great threesome to work with and really sort of carve out a new beginning for those two characters. So hopefully we'll have the same kind of joy on the set.

Aww... Just, aww... They must have had so much fun and the BTS pics confirm that. But it's nice to actually hear it, you know?

If you go here, there's a link two rare XMFC featurettes, one where the producers, writers etc. talk about the characters, another where they talk about Erik and his relationship with Charles - and that one made my heart all... achy, with how hopeless their situation is. There's a part where all the X-Men films are summed up, the relationship between Magneto and Professor X, and it's said, paraphrasing now, "They are both so disappointed in each other and they just want the other to come back." ;_;

There was also an interview with Michael Fassbender about the sequel: link.

I have no idea [when we’ll start filming]. I’m looking forward to working with all those people again. We had a lot of fun. It was a great cast and a great crew. Hopefully, I’ll get in at ground level and start putting some ideas together myself, with James [McAvoy] and, hopefully, (director) Matthew [Vaughn], and we can see what happens next.

I’m really interested to see what happens to Charles (James McAvoy), in the next one, and see how he becomes Professor X ‘cause we got to see Erik turn into Magneto, in the first one. It will be interesting to see who shaves Charles’ head. When he’s drunk one night, the mutants will go in there and shave his head and shave off his eyebrows. Maybe.

XMFC sequel

News here - and in other places.

The good news: Fox's moving ahead with the script for XMFC's sequel! According to the site mentioned above, the movie could be ready for 2013.

The bad news: They hired Simon Kinberg to write it - the guy who wrote X-Men: The Last Stand, the film that started the critical pummeling of the X-Men movies.

When I saw this, I pretty much went "WTF, Fox?!" After how terribly Last Stand and Wolverine were received by critics and fans alike, you finally get back on track with XMFC which is pretty much the critics' darling this year and you hire that hack to write the sequel? The only thing that gives me hope is Matthew Vaughn - if he comes back as the director, which he wants to, he can basically overrule Kinberg and re-write the script, which is what he did with XMFC. So, fingers crossed.

-- First trailer for USA Network's Common Law: link. I think I'm going to love this show!

-- A short interview with Jason Flemyng who played Azazel in XMFC: link. According to him, the movie had to make $350 mil. worldwide to justify a sequel, which it made. BTW, Azazel was an amazing character!

-- And a trailer for Michael Fassbender's Shame: link. This might not be my cuppa but it sure looks intriguing.

... Wonderful article about Michael Fassbender: link. I love this quote:

"I’m 34 but I remember when I first went to Los Angeles. I was 24 – an agent who was going to take me on at the time thought I was 35 … I quite enjoy the lines on my forehead because they show my life. That’s my history and I like to see that in other people. Like this wrinkle is due to some girl who broke my heart. I don’t want to escape it in any way."

Or

“Perhaps 10 years ago, I would have been impressed and seduced by all the things that come with fame, but they don’t really interest me anymore. I’m just happy that I’ve been allowed to work in this business. I am lucky that a lot of great filmmakers want to collaborate with me.”

I also loved the part about Viggo Mortensen. They both seem like such nice, down-to-earth guys... *_*

Talking about Michael Fassbender, this is an interesting article about the possible future of the X-Men movies: link.

... James McAvoy's mind works. This is what he said back in April:

James McAvoy says he’d like to see his character Charles Xavier get “really messed up” in the sequels.

“In First Class he uses Cerebro for the first time and maybe it unlocks something in his head – maybe he can’t keep the voices out or something,” the actor speculates.

“So in the second movie his journey could be about getting himself out of a mess. And then in the third movie he become… Patrick Stewart!”

Link

& This was posted yesterday:

“I’ve spoken to Matthew [Vaughn] about ideas, but I can’t tell you what they are because they may or may not be the story. One thing I liked about our one was that it was different from the other three films where the X-Men are the good guys, Wolverine’s figuring out who he is and Magneto is the bad guy.

“This was a completely different thing. Magneto wasn’t a bad guy, we were friends. We’re now set up to go back to the way the other movies are, so we’ve got to try to be cleverer than that.”

Link

I really like his ideas. And since both he and Michael Fassbender have a say in what happens with their characters, I hope that - provided there is a sequel - they use some of them.

Oh, and I finally watched the deleted scenes from XMFC - and I'm glad that they cut them out, especially the Charles/Moira parts, that was painful *cringes* And though I would have liked seeing the drag part, overall, I think the movie's better as it is...

And the last one of my "favorite scenes"...

We are brothers, you and I... )

And you have to, you just HAVE to watch this Charles/Erik song vid, peeps. I don't usually pimp song vids, but this one is amazing! The girl has a real talent. The scenes... The way it's cut... The music... I can't stop watching it! *_*

-- Robert Downey Jr. would like to play the big-screen version of Perry Mason? Link. Awesome. I always loved Perry Mason, both the TV version and the books. Hm, I guess I should re-read some...

-- Michael Fassbender is being considered for the new The Man from U.N.C.L.E. movie? Link. He was Steven Soderbergh’s first choice to replace George Clooney as Napoleon Solo? Please, please, please! Let him get the part! As much as I love Robocop, I would prefer seeing him in The Man from U.N.C.L.E.!

-- I love this article where Michael Fassbender talks about his X-Men: First Class experience: "We were lacking two months pre-production essentially, so everyone had to just roll up their sleeves. Thank god, James is a good guy, a very smart guy and he's a very practical guy." Link. Aww...

"We regard 'X-Men' as a huge success," [Chris Petrikin, Fox Filmed Entertainment spokesman] said. "It reignited the franchise and has done more than $350 million worldwide." He added that the film performed strongly enough for Fox to make more sequels in the future and characterized the film division's overall performance as "terrific." Link

\o/ Seriously, \o/ Just, please, no Jean, Cyclops or Wolverine. They had their own movies, leave this trilogy to Erik and Charles.

Funny!

Hugh Jackman on how his X-Men: First Class cameo almost didn't happen. He seems to have had a blast filming that scene. No wonder James McAvoy looked on the verge of losing it and exploding into giggles! Jackman seems to really love the part of Wolverine...

I still haven't watched the new eps of Castle and The Mentalist. Looks like many people were dissatisfied with the premieres, nothing too spoilery, just this general feeling of "Meh!" I think I'll wait a few weeks, maybe till the first hiatus, and then marathon the new season. I kinda lost my excitement for the shows...

With Haven, I'll wait for the S2 finale and watch the last three eps together...

And because my family from Žatec is here, I still haven't seen NCIS:LA *sigh* It looks like this season, NCIS, NCIS:LA and Supernatural will be the only shows I'll be watching "live".

-- Today, I found You Higuri's "Taisho Era Chronicles" in my mail box. This is huge! You would have to understand just how much I love You Higuri's manga to get my reaction. She's a goddess among mangakas for me!

-- Still translating Tom Lloyd's "The Ragged Man", 4th in the "Twilight Reign" series - seriously, the book has 610 pages! - and as much as I love the characters, I sometimes feel like the author automatically expects his readers to know what's going on. It's like, he knows it and doesn't get that he has to, you know, WRITE IT DOWN, it's not enough that he as the author is privy to what's going on. Sheesh!

-- They plan a remake of Point Break? Why exactly? The movie was mediocre, only the presence of Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze made it good. Why remake it?! *head/desk*

-- NCIS & NCIS:LA season premiere promo: link. Pretty spoilery, if you ask me. But AWESOME! Tony!!!

-- "Producer Lauren Shuler Donner — the authority on the past, present and future of Fox's X-Men franchise as the producer of every one of the movies going back to X-Men in 2000 — has divulged to HitFix that things are looking "hopeful" for a First Class sequel, and that she wants Matthew Vaughn to return as director." Link. So, fingers and toes crossed, XMFC? Please? With a cherry on top?

-- I seriously adore Rob Dougan's song Clubbed to Death. It needed to be said.

I'm now the proud owner of Scarecrow and Mrs King S2 on DVD. Woohoo! Love the show.

Although Captain America did better in the US than X-Men First Class - $165 mil. to $145 mil. - worldwide it did worse. Overall, CA earned $316 mil. so far whereas XMFC $351 mil. If there is a CA sequel but not a XMFC one, I'll be pissed. Oh, don't get me wrong, I want both movies to have part 2, but I can see Marvel pushing CA more than XMFC, what with The Avengers etc.

Saw the trailer for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy: link. The funny thing is, the music is from XMFC, the score is identical. But it'll be great to see Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy in a movie together again, they acted alongside in Stuart: A Life Backwards already.

Jason Momoa's Conan the Barbarian is a huge flop. Yeesh! It cost $90 mil. to make and over the first weekend it earned only $10 mil. *cringes* Lionsgate will be lucky if the film doesn't end in red numbers.
