This was a nice series. Nothing groundbreaking or really hit-ish but some nice, funny, relaxing stuff. Though I do get why it didn't really take off. Nice and funny just doesn't cut it anymore. I liked the characters but the show lacked the necessary "Oomph," as Hetty Lange would say.

What I'm grateful for is that we got a resolution, that we got to find out why Wes pulled his gun on Travis, why they were sent to couples therapy in the first place. So, basically, you can view it as a mini-series of a sort.

One thing bothered me a bit, though - we've been told many times that Travis has always had Wes' back. But it wasn't shown. At no point during the series did Travis have to stick his neck out for Wes. But Wes has done that several times. Like when he shot Travis' brother or when shut up that Beverly Hills cop who talked shit about Travis. I think that's too bad. I mean, you could argue that Travis saved Wes from the landmine Wes had stepped on but Travis would've done that for anybody. I would've really loved to see Travis go to bat for Wes specifically. Oh well, we might have gotten that in S2. Too bad...

Common Law was now officially canceled by USA Network: link. Well, at least the season/series finale was a good ending for the show, from what I heard. I think I'll wait for it to come out on DVD.

Warren Kole also joined The Following, the Kevin Bacon helmed serial killer show in a recurring part: link. Too bad he didn't join SHIELD, he was in The Avengers after all :(

You know, USA has so many new shows in the works - and I don't find any of them even remotely interesting. It's the same old, same old stuff over and over again: a cop and a conman, a bunch of special agents, a bunch of doctors... It's either a carbon copy of another show they already air or of a show from another network. I do like the format, a lighthearted procedural, but... there's nothing original. And I can take non-original theme - if they at least cast interesting actors. Eh. Just... eh.

According to Deadline.com, USA won't renew Common Law for S2. They let the options on the cast expire and the showrunner, Craig Sweeny, moved on to become the executive producer of Elementary. Oh well...

I watched the first episode and liked it well enough, though it didn't really wow me. And when I saw the ratings, which were pretty bad, I downloaded all the episodes to marathon them once the show's fate was decided. I prefer going into a series knowing if it will/won't be renewed.

Also, the fate of Fairly Legal and Necessary Roughness - neither is my cuppa - is still undecided. Political Animals has always been planned as a mini-series event only. Everything else, according to Deadline, is a sure lock for renewal (out of which I'm interested in White Collar only).

This is a show that I'm really looking forward to, Common Law: trailer.

It looks like so much fun. But it'll all depend on the chemistry between Michael Ealy and Warren Kole, I hope they click! Well, I couldn't imagine a great chemistry between Matt Bomer and Tim DeKay either, but USA proved me wrong. Do it again, USA, bring us another dynamic duo!

The show starts airing on Friday, May 11!

-- First trailer for USA Network's Common Law: link. I think I'm going to love this show!

-- A short interview with Jason Flemyng who played Azazel in XMFC: link. According to him, the movie had to make $350 mil. worldwide to justify a sequel, which it made. BTW, Azazel was an amazing character!

-- And a trailer for Michael Fassbender's Shame: link. This might not be my cuppa but it sure looks intriguing.

YAY!

USA Network picked up Common Law for a series! *runsincircles* How awesome is that?

Common Law follows partners Travis Marks (Michael Ealy) and Wes Mitchell (Warren Kole), cops on the Los Angeles Police Department’s homicide team who have issues with each other. In an effort to resolve their conflicts, their captain (Jack McGee) sends Wes, a former lawyer with a passion for cars, gardening and his ex-wife, and Travis, a ladies’ man who once served time in juvenile hall, to couples counseling.

Summary taken from here. Their therapist will be played by Amy Acker.

Man, I really hoped that USA would pick up this one. It sounds hilarious!

Oh, dear USA, now you just HAVE to pick it up and turn it into a proper show!

Amy Acker (...) has landed the only female regular role opposite stars Michael Ealy and Warren Kole in the USA Network's buddy cop dramedy pilot Common Law.

(...)

Common Law centers on polar opposite LAPD homicide detectives Wes Mitchell (Kole) and Travis Marks (Ealy) whose constant bickering prompts their captain to send them to couples counseling. Acker will play their therapist. Link.

Please, USA, please! Pick it up! Pleeeeeaaaaaaase! *crosses both fingers and toes*

USA Network picked up the pilot of Common Law - and it sounds HILARIOUS!

COMMON LAW, a comedic take on the buddy cop genre, centers on Wes Mitchell and Travis Marks, two cops with a problem ... each other. As partners, they were LAPD's dream team. Now Wes, a methodical former lawyer with a passion for cars, gardening and his ex-wife, and Travis, a maverick ladies' man who served time in juvie, can't stand each other. To revive their flagging professional relationship, their Captain sends them to couples therapy. We soon learn that a successful relationship or partnership doesn't mean you have to like the same things; you just have to hate the same things. Link

I love the summary, LOVE it! Now I just hope that they choose actors with great chemistry *crosses fingers*

ETA: TedOnTV on Twitter told me that so far, they picked up just the pilot to see if it would work for them. I really hope it will. It sounds rocking awesome.
