This scene simply hurts. Why? Because it's the beginning of the end between them. Erik murders Shaw and makes Charles his accomplice - the part where Erik pushes the coin into Shaw's forehead and Charles starts screaming is... chilling. I mean, Charles felt Shaw die, he was in this guy's mind when Erik killed him, so slowly and painfully - and without ever knowing what he actually did to Charles... That's horrible. This is the moment when Charles starts losing things - beginning with Erik's admission that he doesn't trust Charles...
