These two episodes were AWESOME! The introduction of Cpt. Jack Harkness. So, I was curious who wrote them. STEVEN MOFFAT! Of course it was him! I liked The Unquiet Dead (written by Mark Gatiss!) and Dalek before. But The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances? I LOVED THOSE TWO! I want to see them more than once! The scary parts were really, really scary. And the banter between Jack and the Doctor was hilarious - when they argued about their sonic weapons! LOL. That was so, so cool. And I just loved that Jack flirted with everything in sight, much to the Doctor's amusement!

And now I want to see Torchwood again. I've seen only the first 2 seasons so far. I know that S3 and S4 really divided the fandom but... I think I might get the complete series box set from Amazon UK. They offer it for Ł30 or so...

"Lost Souls (Torchwood Radio Dramas #1)" by Joseph Lidster

♦ ♦ ♦

Story: 2 stars. Set directly after season 2. Jack, Gwen and Ianto are still dealing - or not dealing - with Owen and Tosh's deaths when Martha asks for their help. How they feel is shown in their short chats with her, Martha namely hasn't seen them since their friends' funeral. I especially liked her conversation with Jack. I also liked the tight bonds between the three main characters. The story's setting is quite intriguing: the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland. But the creature itself... I found it slightly lacking, to be honest.

Narration: 5 stars. John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Gareth David-Lloyd and Freema Agyeman, they all do amazing jobs! It's like following a real TW episode with your eyes closed. It's fantastic! John Barrowman has a beautiful voice!

To sum it up: This would have been a pretty average episode of TW but I liked that it showed us how the characters dealt with their tragedy.

Ausiello posted a very spoilery interview with Russell T. Davies about Torchwood: Children of Earth, so don't read if you haven't seen the show yet, but there was a part, not spoilery, that I made me totally laugh my ass off:

"I thank them for watching the show and I recommend they go watch Supernatural, because those boys are beautiful. And don’t tell me they’re brothers. [Laughs] Not in my mind."

*g* I actually laughed out loud.

I decided not to even download/buy/watch the Torchwood mini-series. Dark and depressive is not my thing. So, something funny!

John Barrowman in drag! He'll be playing Zaza in the theatrical version of Bird Cage. How awesome is that? \o/

My flist exploded with the news about spoilers for CoE part 4... )
katikat: (Default)
I decided not to download the mini-series but to buy it on DVD directly. I mean, it's coming out next week for 15.98 pounds "only" so... But only if the three main characters survive, that is. I heard that Ianto is really cute in this one ;)

I finished watching TW and let me tell you - the last ep of S2? I cried my eyes out, like for real *sniff*

My spoilery thoughts... )

Does anybody know if the show was renewed beyond Children of Earth?
katikat: (Default)
After finding out, that my copy of ep 210 had a serious glitch, I went directly to ep 211. And it was sad and depressing but very well done too. I mean, I think that Gwen really needed this lesson. She needed to realize that they couldn't help everybody, that she shouldn't put her job over her "real life" as Rhys put it, that sometimes people really didn't want what they thought they wanted - like the boy's mother - and that there were some things that she just wasn't entitled to know. I mean, she got so used to being an equal part of the team that I think that she forgot that Jack was her boss and she still had to take orders from him.

Though I must admit that her "I know best" attitude got on my nerves in this ep. I loved it when Jack told her that fine, they would do something to help those people - if she told him, practically, what they should do, if she gave him a practical solution, not just ravings about the unfairness of the whole situation. And there she just couldn't.

But the scene with the mum, when she told Gwen to promise her not to do it to anybody else - Gwen's crestfallen look just broke my heart :(

And as usually - Rhys is fantastic! Can I have a Rhys of my own?
katikat: (Default)
This episode was simply hilarious! There were so many funny quotes and scenes - like Ianto dancing with Jack instead of with Gwen! And the quotes:

Jack: Yeah, and the Lone Ranger didn't have a thing with Tonto!

Ianto: That's what I love about Torchwood - by day chasing the scum of the universe, comes the night you're the wedding fairy!

Ianto: He's got a point.
Jack: What is it with you? Ever since Owen died, all you ever do is agree with him.
Ianto: I was brought up to never speak ill of the dead.

I admire Rhys, though. That man has the patience of a saint!

Also, I'm making a new SGA mood theme. It's so much fun!
katikat: (Default)
This was the "Owen-episode", a nice - but creepy - insight into his character. Creepy! Though I really liked the suicide-attemptee...

You know, TW is really chilling. Not their cases or the special effects - I'm talking about the show's vision of afterlife. There is no hope, just more horror and darkness. Just thinking about it gives me the creeps.

And I was idly browsing Amazon UK and when I stumbled across this TW tie-in, "The House That Jack Built" by Guy Adams. I really like the synopsis: Jackson Leaves: an Edwardian house in Penylen, built in 1906, semi-detached, three storeys, spacious, beautifully presented, and left in good condition to Rob and Julia by Rob's late aunt. It's an ordinary sort of a house... except for the way the rooms don't stay in the same places. And the strange man that turns up in the airing cupboard. And the apparitions. And the temporal surges that attract the attentions of Torchwood. And the fact that the first owner of Jackson Leaves in 1906 was a Captain Jack Harkness...

I've started watching Torchwood again - yes, I still have seven (now only six) episodes to go. From a year ago. Go me.

So, I've watched ep 207, that "reaper" episode, and it was surprisingly scary. And good. I didn't remember the show being this engaging. It's funny what tricks your memory can play. This episode reminded me a lot of Supernatural - let's solve a problem by creating a bigger one, go us! XP

On a shallow note - Cpt. Jack is a gorgeous, gorgeous man *nods sagely*

* I now have 4 parcels under way...

1. Psych, S2
2. Supernatural, S3
3. Tropical Heat, the whole series, and Stargate Atlantis' "Rising" novelization
4. the Bourne trilogy and The Mummy :)

Me? Happy! :P

* Some spoilers for Torchwood, S3. You know, I really don't get why TPTB keep repeating that a shorter season, a mini-series or a movie instead of a whole season is a good thing. Who are they trying to convince?

* I like the new casting spoilers for Chuck! Many actors I like! I can't wait for the new season to begin! :)

* Ausiello's Spoiler Vid! Spoilers for House (I love how he calls House and Wilson the most famous same sex couple!), Gossip Girl (I giggled over his "sex, sex, sex, oh yeah, more sex") and Chuck (there I had a shock! O.O).

* I almost forgot to download Eureka! What's wrong with me? XP
katikat: (Default)
According to TVGuide.com, BBC has only green lit five hours of Torchwood for the show's 3rd season, adding that there could be more. I mean, huh? Only five hours? Five eps? Executive producer Julie Gardner said: "We've decided to do a five-part mini-series, one big story that will run during one week." I mean, a mini-series is better than nothing at all, right? But still... *sigh* Well, at least they didn't cancel it, right?

SGA fic rec time!
MCSHEP --> "Fading Skies" by Diamond-Raven. After John is badly wounded while serving in Somalia, he and Rodney have to learn how to make a serious physical disability a part of their lives. Words: 60.000+

This fic is a complete AU in which John and Rodney meet during their freshman year at the university. They get together but then John, who joined Air Force to pay for his education, is shipped off to Somalia where his chopper is shot down and he suffers a terrible injury - he becomes a paraplegic. But Rodney refuses to give up on him and they both have to accommodate. It's a really great story with painful details about what exactly does it mean to live with a paraplegic. Some people might argue that John is rather OOC in this story but he's still 25 and he just suffered a horrible injury after all. I like the fic very much!

Spoilers for Numb3rs ep 4x14 )

Fast national ratings for this episode: 9.59 mil., last week's fast nationals: 9.91 mil.

Torchwood star's in time to save friends: Two pensioners today revealed how dashing TV star John Barrowman proved a real life hero.

If I didn't love John Barrowman yet, I would adore him now *vbg* Thank you for the link, [livejournal.com profile] suzvoy!

Yay, according to Ausiello, Women's Murder Club will return with three more episodes in April! That doesn't mean that there will be S2, but at least we will get 13 eps in total! That show is just awesome.

And since I'm already talking about WMC, I bought the first book in Patterson's series in Czech! We will see if the books are as good as the series :)

I'm so behind in watching Torchwood! Just today, I watched the episode Adam. And even though the whole ep was quite touching and intriguing, for me it was all about...

Spoilers! )

*vbg*

Still trying to post happy things only :)
katikat: (Default)
Yay, I found some audiobooks to Torchwood and they are read by the cast themselves! So far, I found three, read by John Barrowman, Eve Myles and Burn Gorman. I think that's a great idea to let the cast read the books!

And now me pondering the writers' strike...

I'm not sure I want the strike to end. No, hear me out. Even if it ended this week, they wouldn't be able to film more than two or three eps, four would be pushing it - Kripke's words in his latest interview for TV.com. And he also said that he had no intention to speed up the progress of the mythology storyline, that they would just find a good place for the season to end and continue the main story in S4.

So, looking at it that way, we would probably get some MOTW eps with some character/mythology development, no huge revelations or plot twists or the resolution of Dean's deal or anything like that. We would probably get the eps that the writers were already working on before the strike started, with some minor changes here and there.

But! While we would receive three eps of our show, other writers would be able to work on pilots for new series. And if TPTB pushed hard, they would probably get them on paper in time. And that could cause trouble for SPN because, let's face it, the CW isn't all that excited about the show. And if someone offered them another Gossip Girl, they would drop SPN like a hot potato! But if there were no pilots at all, the CW would just have to renew SPN for S4.

So, it's 2-3 eps vs. a whole S4...

And that's just me spouting about SPN. The same goes for Chuck and other TV shows that don't really do well and stay on the bubble all the time...

ETA: As I was saying about the pilots and "weak" shows...

Sunday was Superbowl Night, right? Did you see the CW's ratings for Sunday night? O.O
CW aired CW Now (Viewers: 349,000; A18-49: 0.1/0), a repeat of Aliens in America (Viewers: 435,000; A18-49: 0.1/0), Life is Wild (Viewers: 749,000; A18-49: 0.2/0), and a repeat of Crowned: The Mother of all Pageants (Viewers: 727,000; A18-49: 0.2/0).
This is really really bad for the CW! As one of the forum members of Pifeedback said: "All I can say for the CW is...OUCH! How much longer are they gonna let Ostroff blorq it up?" I really don't get why they keep Ostroff there, really. I mean, the overall TV ratings dropped approximately 20% (20% of viewers DVR stuff), but these numbers are ridiculous. She cancelled Everwood because she wanted to try something "different" that didn't stay on air even 6 eps, they keep neglecting their 2nd best rated scripted show to promo GoGi (not that it helps the show's ratings)... One really does have to wonder.

[livejournal.com profile] sharona1x2 posted a cute tidbit about THE kiss in the latest episode of Torchwood - thank you, girl! *smooch*

Quoted from Digital Spy )

*giggles*

I see how excited everybody is about the new artist for the Supernatural comic books... Well, it's not bad - I love the werewolf - but I think that manga spoiled me *points at her icon* When you are used to the gorgeous style of some of the Japanese artists, the American comic book artists don't impress you much *shrugs*

Can someone please tell me what's the difference between blog.cwtv.com and cwsource? I mean, the only real difference that I can see is that the former's crawling up the CW's butt, praising everything they do, while the latter dares to criticize some of their dumber moves. But other than that...

So, Torchwood was watched and very much enjoyed!

Spoilers for ep 2x01 )

This makes me want to do a Torchwood S1 marathon. To get in the mood, you know? I was very happy with this ep!
