Synopsis... )

Review: First in the "Allay" series. And it was bad. Really, really bad. The only positive thing I can say about this book is that the idea of demons feeding on emotions and birthing new demons when over-feeding was original. The rest, only negative things, unfortunately.

Not only was the book slow and terribly confusing, it's been also a long while since I came across as unlikable heroine as Allay. There were moments, I thought she had to be bipolar: she hated demons because they preyed on humans, but killing demons to stop them from hurting people was wrong. She ran around like a headless chicken, creating problems everywhere, getting her friends - and even people whom she didn't trust but didn't have any qualms to use - into trouble, still haughtily thinking she was the epitome of what was right in the world. Ram, a four thousand year old demon, fell in love with her within one night because yeah, she was so awesome. Oh, and let's not forget the scene in the cell, where she was hugging a beaten up, bleeding, broken Theo and started feeling horny, because yeah, a guy who's dying of internal bleeding is irresistible - that actually sickened me.

The heroine made me so angry that I almost didn't finish the book. I'll be definitely NOT reading the next part!

BuddyTV posted a gallery of supporting characters who - according to BuddyTV - deserve a spin-off, a show of their own. And I have to agree with two: #8 Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow and #9 Castiel. Though if I had to choose only one, I would go with Green Arrow! The potential for sheer action is staggering!

Which reminds me that I hope that the CW will come up with another DC Comics related show for next year, after Smallville ends. There is a ton of cool characters they could use without stepping on the toes of movie execs.

This volume actually made me cry. Watanuki's determination to help the girl who felt disgusted with herself. Domeki's determination to save Watanuki no matter what. Watanuki's determination to fulfill Yuko-san's wish. And then Yuko's wish... The shop slowly disappearing and realities fracturing/merging even further... The story is so confusing - hey, it's Clamp, after all - but so beautiful at the same time, all about friendship and selfworth.

Is there a site that would list manga, their authors and how many volumes each series has, if it's ongoing or finished? I tried Animenewsnetwork.com, which is great for anime, but when it comes to manga and the stuff I listed above, it's terribly confusing...

I mean, I found out that vol. 28, is the last part of "Tsubasa Chronicle". But how many volumes does "xxxHolic" have? 16? Is Clamp still determined to finish "X/1999"? And what about their new project? As much as I love "Card Captor Sakura", "Kobato" doesn't really appeal to me, based on the summary alone.

Hirotaka Kisaragi has a great gift: he knows how to draw beautiful men - and keep them manly. These men you wouldn't mistake for girls. When Kaname is dressed as a woman, in a kimono and all the female trappings, he's still recognizable as a man. This manga is worth buying for the art alone. The story is properly angsty - it is Hirotaka Kisaragi, after all - but it does have a happy ending.

If I understand it correctly, this is the last volume of the first part of "BrotherxBrother". I don't know if/when the series will be continued, but if it is, I'll be there to buy it!

A much larger version can be found here.

There's also a vid from TVGuide's photo shoot. I love Grace Park talking about how she always seems to a) be in remakes and b) play characters that used to be male.

I'm so looking forward to the remake - actually, it's THE new show that I'm looking forward to this fall. I've never seen the old show properly - I tried to watch a couple of eps but it just didn't grip me - but I have high hopes for this one. I'm not a big fan of Alex O'Loughlin, but I think he could grow on me here :)
