TV Tidbits

► TNT greenlit a new show, formerly known as Maxwell and King. It's based on David Baldacci's books and produced by Shane Brennan (NCIS:LA). It stars Jon Tenney (Fritz in The Closer) and Rebecca Romijn (Mystique in the original X-Men movies) as Sean King and Michelle Maxwell, a pair of PIs and former Secret Service agents. Source. Ten episodes were ordered to air this summer.

► Syfy canceled Alphas after 2 seasons: source. I watched S1 but never bothered to go back when S2 started. It wasn't bad but it lacked... something. To its fans, you have my condolences.

► Lifetime didn't pick up The Secret Lives of Wives for a series after all. It should've starred Salli Richardson (Allison in Eureka) and Joe Flanigan (Sheppard in SGA), among others. Oh well. It wasn't my cuppa anyway, though it would've been nice to see Joe on TV again.

According to Deadline.com, Joe Flanigan was cast as one of the regulars in Lifetime's pilot The Secret Lives Of Wives. He will be playing Salli Richardson's husband!

Yay, Syfy's stars playing a couple! What a coincidence. Love them both so much. He will be playing "Jared, unshaven and a shadow of his former self who has become passive and unresponsive to his marriage." The show might not be my cuppa but I'm glad that these two actors will have a regular spot on TV again, provided the pilot gets picked up, that is.

It was a groundbreaking device designed to glimpse alternate universes and government commissioned by a brilliant physicist. But the machine malfunctioned on its first presentation, transporting a group of observers into a nightmarish new dimension. The team quickly must use ingenuity and courage to outwit, outplay and outlast the native man-eating creatures of this bizarre new world while doing their best to repair the damaged machine. Even if they stay alive, without a working transport, they may never make it back home.

I don't care that it'll probably be SyFy's movie of the week or whatever, I just want to see Joe in a film again! And running around, shooting big bad alien things? Even better!

I've been reading casting calls for various new TV shows, including the remake of The Rockford Files: Link. And I can't help but wonder...

[JAMES ROCKFORD] 40ish.. good looking, slightly crumpled, wry humored, cynical, world weary, compassionate when it's called for, easily irritated by morons, Jim Rockwell has a troubled past which includes doing some time as a convict and as a cop, resulting in his now eking out a precarious living as a private investigator. Closest to his dad, Rocky, with some allies in his lawyer/girlfriend Beth and his ex-con buddy Angel, Rockford is reluctant to take on domestic cases...SERIES LEAD

Doesn't that sound exactly like John Sheppard aka Joe Flanigan in SGA's Vegas? It's actually eerie. Take a look at Vegas, then at this and tell me that it doesn't make you tilt your head and go all "Huh!"

According to Jace Hall's twitter:

Joe Flanigan said hes shooting a modern western w/ Hal Holbrooke, Robert Patrick, Samantha Mathis. He's a Sherrif that mans up an kix ass!

Eeeeeeeep! OMG! How awesome is that? Joe's filming again! And with Robert Patrick, too! I bet that they'll have a blast together!

ETA: I had to take down the link to the person's LJ - whatever - so I went directly to the source for the White Collar info: Vague spoilers for what Peter did or did not do in the mid-season finale... )

Can be found here on TVGuideMagazine's web. I love the way he talks about the show and the spin-off, but my favorite part is when he calls Tony DiNozzo the "second banana" on the squad XD

That reminded me of the Dragon*Con interview with Joe Flanigan in which Joe called one of his favorite roles, Brendan on Thoughtcrimes, a "bumbling dodo brain" XD

From Kimberly's twitter about Joe Flanigan:

"In the panel Joe said he hopes to have job news in a few weeks. Woo!"

*bounces* Pleasepleaseplease, let it work out, let it be something cool! *crosses fingers*

You know, reading the Twitter reports from the latest SPN con I realized one thing - I like the SGA cons and reports better. Why? Because the SGA actors keep their significant others out of the spotlight.

Don't get me wrong here. I'm happy that Jensen is happy with Danneel and that Jared is happy with Genevieve. But I think it would be wiser if they kept their relationships more private. And no, I don't say it out of jealousy or some misguided belief that Jared and Jensen would fall madly in love with each other if it wasn't for their girlfriends. No, I just vividly remember the bruhaha that turned the fandom upside down when Jared and Sandy broke up. It was his fault or her fault or who knows whose fault and it was embarrassing for everybody involved. Talk about overexposure. Compare that to Joe Flanigan's attitude - he tells a funny story or two about his kids and wife, but he keeps them separate from his career. I think that it helps the fans separate the actor from his role and his career from his private life.

So yeah, I think that it would be wiser if Jared and Jensen kept the private part of their lives more private. It would give the crazy fans less fodder and help the actors maintain some privacy.

[livejournal.com profile] kristen999 posted an awesome con report from this month's SG con in Chicago. It's mostly stuff about Joe Flanigan - and it makes me like him even more. He's just an all around awesome person *sighs happily*

Joe rocks!

From SyFy's Twitter account:

"And finally, the fifth episode of Warehouse 13, Elements with Joe Flanigan, had a series high 4.3 million total viewers."

Yes, SyFy, people really do want to see Joe Flanigan that much! Give the man a show, a movie, anything! Fans really do love him that much! Please, do realize what you have and use it!
katikat: (Default)
Do you think that Warehouse 13 was the show that Joe Flanigan was offered? The part of Pete Lattimer? The role that he refused because he wanted to return to LA permanently? I mean, Eddie McClintock is a similar type of a man - tall, brown-haired, handsome... I think that - from a fan's POV - it's too bad that he refused his own show to guest star on obscure stuff like the Jace Hall Show *sigh*

There's a funny interview with David Hewlett called Atlantis, Splice and His Own Show. I loved this part:

We were always very friendly on set, yet, during the weekends we had our own lives. Get-togethers would happen every so often. It’s very organic. It just sort of happens. I’ve had to bail on two invites from Joe already, to visit his Malibu home, and my wife is dying to see Joe’s place. He has the most beautiful place in Malibu. I’ve told him I’m going to set up camp next door!

Aww! Joe Flanigan's home must be really beautiful!

Cute pic!

This is without any doubt one of my favorite pictures of Joe Flanigan:

And I love the behind-the-scene vid that goes with it, Joe making fun of Martin Wood because there was some delay in filming and Martin pretending to strangle Joe XD

Some time ago, Chris Heyerdahl did a radio interview with The Sci-Fi Guys in the UK. And among other things, he talked about working with Joe Flanigan. The reporter asked him about the really good chemistry Chris had with Joe and about his work with Joe. Chris responded that chemistry was actually a subjective thing but he and Joe, they went for it, they had fun and it worked. He said that it was funny because he and Joe as actors didn't socialize at all but they always got along and when they were on set, they enjoyed working with each other, that there was mutual respect there. He said that chemistry is either there or it isn't and that they were lucky to have it.

Awesome! I always loved the scenes with Sheppard and Todd, they just clicked!

Tim Minear and SyFy Explore a New Alien Nation! Oh my, how I loved the TV series - the original movie not so much, to be honest - with Gary Graham and Eric Pierpoint! I love this quote by Tim Minear!

"It's genre mixed with procedural mixed with funny mixed with big, giant scary," Minear told Variety. "I love serialized stuff, but this is also a cop franchise. That Starsky & Hutch/Lethal Weapon buddy-cop comedy is absent from TV right now."

I couldn't agree more! Everything has to be "dark" and "deep" these days, there's no fun in shows anymore.

And wouldn't be the part of the human cop just perfect for Joe Flanigan? I mean, he did say that he was thinking of penning a show about a cop who would hunt alien criminals, didn't he?

[livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon posted a partial transcript of the interview with Joe Flanigan that will appear on the S5 DVD box set that's already available from the UK Amazon in parts.

Transcript... )

If I didn't love Joe to pieces already, I would have fallen for him hard after reading this. This is simply beautiful...

I feel the irresistible urge to watch SGA's episodes like Inferno, Echoes, The Ark, Midway and The Prodigal again - all funny, action-filled episodes where the team is being all kick-assy and cute. I just sat here, going through David Hewlett and Jewel Staite's twitters and I was filled with the sudden need to watch some good SGA eps!

And a note to myself: Girl, stop visiting GateWorld. The venom they spew on Joe Flanigan and David Hewlett over there is simply sickening *sigh*
katikat: (Default)
I love this cute Jensen Ackles vid from Asylum where he talks about his cockapoo dog Icarus. I love the bouncing thing! It's just so funny! Can you imagine Jensen with a tiny little fluffy thing?

And then there's the chat with Joe Flanigan and some of the Q+As are just so funny! The funniest one?

Q: You had the chance to shot in the episode "The Kindred", a small stage with your son Aidan and Truman. I want to know what you felt as a father in this little moment.
A: Makes me laugh. They played villagers in a prison, and I was supposed to free them. The director told them to be very serious, tired, scared etc.. My middle kid, Truman, would see me and say “Daddy” with a big smile. My oldest kid Aidan was taking it very seriously and was horrified by Truman’s acting. It was pure gold.

Other fun stuff: As a Jedi, Joe would want a purple light saber. He thinks that he and Jason Momoa would make the safest team but he and David Hewlett the funniest. He thinks that Johnny Cash is a national treasure. He doesn't want to get involved with another TV project unless the character is really interesting. Han Solo rocks. For a long time, his kids thought that he really did fly to space every day to kill the bad guys. He ponders if there are actually any lazy bees (I loved that one ;P). He doesn't have a long enough attention span to meditate. And best of all - he will be shooting a new movie in July! I hope that he will get to play the main character!

And I loved this question:
Q: If you are the one with the questions, what would you like to ask the "Stargate: Atlantis" fans?
A: Would you like to see more Atlantis? As a movie or a series, or both? What characters worked and didn’t work? Would you like to see Chris Judge, David Hewlet and myself do another series, even if it’s unrelated to Atlantis?

How would you answer it, my flist? Me? Of course I would adore to see more Atlantis, as a series, if possible, but movies would do if nothing else was doable. The main team worked perfectly - John, Rodney, Teyla and Ronon - and I loved Woolsey as the leader. I didn't like Keller because she was overall badly written. And yes, I would love to see Chris, David and Joe in another show, together would be preferable, of course. I don't care what show, as long as it would be something adventurous and not a soap.
