I ordered Doctor Who S1 on DVD, the rebooted S1, of course. Back then, I tried to watch a couple of episodes and I simply didn't get into it. Not even Cpt. Jack could save it for me. But watching S5 - yes, Matt Smith is MY Doctor! - I feel like I'm... missing out. Rose and Cpt. Jack are such a huge part of the fandom... I mean, I know that there's 50 years (!!!) of storytelling that I'm missing but I don't have the ambition to catch up on all of that, that way lays madness!

Unfortunately, I really don't like Christopher Eccleston. His ego just doesn't match his acting career or his acting skills. Just look up the 50th anniversary fiasco. Fortunately, he's there for 1 season only, lucky me! And then there's 10 and everybody seems to love 10, so... I ordered the box set used - I want to see it but I didn't want to pay the regular price! - so it will cost me Ł10.31 incl. shipping. Not bad!

Matt Smith is leaving Doctor Who: link. Bummer. He was the Doctor who actually got me into this show. He even made me curious about the previous incarnations, 9 and 10 - the old ones not so much, sorry. And now he's leaving? ;_; Losing the Ponds was heartbreaking but Matt Smith now too? ;_; Luckily, I like most of his movie projects, even the weird ones like The Womb. I guess that means more of that, huh?

Also, speaking of the Ponds, Karen Gillan was cast as the lead female villain in Guardians of the Galaxy: link. Wow, didn't expect that at all. They are really thinking outside the box with this one, aren't they? O.o

The Ponds

Doctor Who's Ponds are getting a mini-series spin-off of their own, entirely web based, and called Pond Life: link. The article says:

The adventure has been split into five episodes, which will be uploaded daily [the BBC Doctor Who website and YouTube channel] from noon on August 27 until August 31.

It will focus on Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill), and the "chaos" caused when the Doctor (Matt Smith) "drops in and out of their lives".

The BBC confirmed that Gillan, Darvill and Smith will all star in the adventure and also promised some "unexpected surprises".

"Pond Life provides us with a lovely opportunity to catch up with Amy and Rory since we saw them at the end of the last series," Chibnall said.

"It opens with the Ponds at home and gives us an insight to just what happens when the Doctor drops in and out of their lives. Travelling with the Doctor is one of the greatest things you can do, but it's fun to spend a few moments looking at the chaos he can also bring."

Meanwhile, Doctor Who's executive producer Caroline Skinner described Pond Life as "beautiful, heartfelt and wickedly funny", saying: "It's not long till the series itself will be back with a vengeance - but in the meantime Pond Life is a truly heartwarming piece about our best-loved companions and their madcap relationship with their raggedy Doctor."

Doctor Who will return for its seventh series on September 1, both in the UK and in the US.

That means I should catch up on the show before than, right? *head/desk*

Beware of spoilers for S6 AND S7!

Report 1
Report 2
Report 3*

* This article says that Karen Gillan will be in Broadchurch, a new series starring David Tennant as a DI. But according to IMDB, it's Arthur Darvill, not Karen Gillan who'll be in the new series with the old Doctor. Just FYI.

Aaaaaand I'm in a funk again, not feeling like watching any current show. Bah! as the dwarves say *hands* I guess it's because I spoiled myself for the ending of the latest WhiCo ep by mistake. Or something. So, I decided to watch something older and fun! Hence...

... Doctor Who, season 6!

601 602 )

You know, I don't get what people have against Steven Moffat's writing. Especially his writing for DW *shrugs* It's incredibly clever and you have to pay attention to minute details because they'll come back 6 eps later and they'll explain everything! I'm simply amazed by how connected everything in Moffat's universe is! Brilliant!

So, peeps. Who do you find scarier, the Weeping Angels or the Silence? Me? The Weeping Angels. Maybe not as global a threat but, sheesh on a pogo stick, they are scary!

Or what did Stephen Moffat say about Matt Smith, Mr. Clumsy: link.

Terrifying Fact Number Two, is that I’ve just watched Matt Smith carrying a flaming torch on screen. Oh, it’s for such a thrilling scene in Episode 12. Really and truly, magnificent and epic. A proper movie moment. But never mind that, it’s Matt carrying a FLAMING TORCH. Look, Matt’s lovely, he’s a magnificent, brand new, hilarious, heartbreaking, heroic Doctor — but the fact is, if that man walks into a room with a coffee then it’s only so long before you’re wearing it. No, really, clumsiest man on earth. He walks like he’s in a constant state of surprise at his own limbs. I remember when he turned up at a Worldwide meeting really early on, and the first thing he did was spill a cup of coffee over a rather lovely woman. Naturally she giggled, flushed and introduced her mother. (Ahh, life when you’re Matt ! I accidentally made eye contact with the same woman — she phoned the police and shot me in the face.) On the way out he apologised to a completely different woman for the coffee incident. “That was the wrong woman,” I said, as he went out the doors. “Nope,” he replied, “That was the second cup.”

Oh, and there was the top secret, very special, extra readthrough for Episode 10 (I’m talking that up, but what the hell) and Matt came striding in with a GUITAR ON HIS BACK. I have honestly never seen a whole roomful of people flatten themselves against a wall with such a high-pitched squeal of terror. Except Karen, of course, who trotted along behind him without a care in the world. Oh, the horror as the Doctor spun and chatted and coffeed a series of delighted women. How that guitar arced and scythed! Swish! Get down, Karen! Swish! Karen, save yourself! Swish! Not her face, Matt, NOT HER FACE!! Ah, the memories. You know, to this day I’m not sure if Matt knew he had a guitar on his back — he might just have collided with a musician.

And I thought I couldn't love Matt Smith more! \o/

I finished DW S5 today! Woohoo! I really like the episodes written by Steven Moffat, they are so twisty-turvy!

My favorite scene? )

Lovely, lovely stuff! That scene - and the Weeping Angels one, the one with Amy and the screen - must be my favorite of the whole show!

Though I think that DW is another show best viewed in big chunks, in a marathon, if possible. If I watched it week for week, I think I would be disappointed by the bad episodes. A 13 ep long shows just can't afford really bad episodes, IMHO.

For me personally, the best thing about the show is Matt Smith. He's such a wonderful actor and his Doctor is so... so sweet and brilliant yet a bit bumbling, so he's not really omnipotent. And he's so lovable! Excellent!

For the first time since I started watching this show, I can honestly say I HATED an episode of DW. This two-parter was awful!

508+509 )

I seriously hope that the writer of this two-parter, Chris Chibnall, didn't write many episodes because I can't remember the last time I saw something this idiotic and ham-fisted! Grr!

This scene? My favorite out of all the eps I've seen so far! It literally gave me nightmares last night. Sheesh on a pogo stick!

Wow, whoever came up with the Weeping Angels should be given a medal. That was AMAZING! I can't remember the last time I felt so scared watching a TV show. Wow, just WOW!

504+505 )

Man! I hope we see more of the Weeping Angels. What a great, original idea!

I needed a change of pace. Something... something I haven't watched in a while. So, I decided to finally continue Doctor Who! As you know, I have never been into DW but Matt Smith is awesome, so incredibly sweet and quirky - his "There's an escaped fish" made me giggle! - and I really like Amy Pond!

And it looks like the spoiler ) will be announced tomorrow: link.

So, rumor has it that Benedict Cumberbatch might play spoiler! ) in the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. I'm not a big fan of DW, I only really like the latest incarnation, but this? THAT WOULD BE SO COOL! Seriously! As this article - beware of possible spoilers! - says, "it’s felt Benedict is the perfect choice if schedules can work." I totally agree!

But reading the comments below the article... (ETA: Looks like the comments were removed. But try any other article and you'll see plenty of them!) I'm so tired of hearing ordinary people - and reporters too, which is even worse - bash Benedict's name and/or his looks. Are people really so shallow that if someone doesn't have the flawless, plastic surgery like Hollywood looks, they automatically deem him ugly? And even though I understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I don't understand how anybody...

... can find this man ugly *hands*

Sometimes, I really despair at the world *sigh*

I finally gave another chance to Doctor Who - and the version with Matt Smith is so much better than the ones with Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant, both of which bored me to tears. Or maybe it's because I really love Amy Pond. What a great heroine, so spunky and fearless - the part with the kissogram was LOL worthy: "It was either this or a French Maid!" And I love this Doctor's... energy, it's almost frenetic. And I liked the preview of things to come at the end of 501. I think I'll stick with this show, at least as long as Amy Pond's there...

Shows!

-- Yet ANOTHER delay with the SGA and SG-1 tie-ins? *sigh* Not that I don't have anything else to read but considering the books have been pre-paid for months now, I don't think it's too much to ask to have them actually delivered, right?

-- I succumbed and ordered The Definitive Collection of Farscape and Peacekeeper Wars. Amazon UK has it for just 45Ł!

-- Also, I can't believe I'm saying this, I decided to give Doctor Who one very last chance, starting with S5 and the new doctor and Amy Ponds. Seriously, if this "reboot" can't get me interested, the show's obviously a lost cause for me *hands*

1 min. long S3.5 White Collar promo: link. I really hope we get to see more Peter&Neal and Peter&Neal&Elizabeth in 3.5 rather than Neal&Sara. I didn't like the changes the writers made in 3.0, splitting Peter and Neal up all the time, making them lie to each other... Hopefully, S3.5 will rectify that. If not, my heart will seriously break because this used to be my 2nd favorite show, right after Supernatural.

I'm not even watching Doctor Who and this spoiler pretty much broke my heart: Spoilers! )
