I love podfics. Seriously. See the hearts in my eyes? So, I decided to post a podfic-related meme. Let's see if I can find 30 podficcers worth rec'ing. You see, I usually download and listen to podfics by the same people whose voice I adore. And this meme will force me to broaden my horizons.

So, off to rec. In no particular order, just as I come across them on my HDD...

Day 1...

Reader: Fayjay

Fandoms: Sherlock, Supernatural, Merlin etc.

Reasons: Fayjay has an amazing voice. Seriously. I can listen to it for hours. Literally. Her podfics are loud and clear, with no background noises or annoying humming and buzzing. And she's willing to read LONG stories!

Rec: Speaking of long stories - "Student Prince", written and read by Fayjay. This is the fic that got me into the Merlin fandom. 15+ hours! Awesome!

List of podficcers! )

I love you and I love all the effort and time and patience you put into reading cool, amazing fics. But...

TURN UP THE VOLUME, for Christ's sake! I know that some people get all hot and bothered when someone's whispering in their ear but I actually like hearing what you're saying!

I mean, when the initial recording is silent, it leads to two things:

a) The podficer leaves it like that and the listener has to turn the volume up to the max to actually HEAR IT! It's all nice and dandy when it's on an iPod or an .mp3 player but on a comp? Where everything else then sounds like someone's dropping a bomb on your head? You barely hear the podfic but when your email pings, it pops you ear drums? Podfics like that go DELETE DELETE DELETE no matter how awesome the fic is!

b) The podficer turns up the volume after the recording's done - and the recording then hums and buzzes and echoes and crackles and the reading is barely understandable anyway. And podfics like that go DELETE DELETE DELETE again!

I know that podficers do what they do in their free time, because it's fun for them and I am grateful, I always leave feedback when I listen to someone's podfic. But the low volume, especially when the reader adds music that's BLARING compared to the podfic, drives me up the wall!

I love [livejournal.com profile] setissma's SGA fic "Wide Open Ocean" which is AU where John and Rodney work at an aquarium. It's a beautiful fic and very sad at the same time too because John and Rodney are so desperately lonely on their own, before they get together.

I was so happy to find out that [livejournal.com profile] winkingstar turned it into a podfic. There is a low hum in the podfic, probably caused by turning up the volume on the original recording but winkingstar has a beautiful voice and except for the hum, the podversion is clear and very nice to listen to :)

You know what I spent the last couple of hours doing? Listening to [livejournal.com profile] the_oscar_cat's podversion of the beautiful Nantucket AU 'verse featuring John Sheppard as Nantucket's pilot and Rodney McKay as his lover and resident physicist.

It's... I have no words to describe how wonderful it is, the series and the podversion too. It gives you warm fuzzies and you feel like cuddling! [livejournal.com profile] the_oscar_cat's voice, the way she reads it, all lazy and drawling and warm... Beautiful!

I need to think of something else or I will keep getting more and more depressed...

So, good things!

a) There are trailers for the new Donald Strachey movies on YouTube! On the Other Hand, Death and Ice Blues. The movies are based on Richard Stevenson's mystery series about the PI Donald Strachey and his lover Timmy Callahan played by Chad Allen and Sebastian Spence respectively. Awesome!

b)[livejournal.com profile] zoetrope made a new SGA podfic! This time she chose "Ordinary Life", a McShep fic by Speranza and Astolat (aka Shalott). I just love the way she reads John and Rodney, she gives them such distinctive voices!

c) I bought a Duffy Duck and Friends DVD this morning. There's no funnier cartoon than the Looney Toones!

Fringe

I watched the leaked pilot of Fringe...

My spoilery thoughts... )

So yeah, as much hype as there is about the show, I'm not sure if I will keep watching...

Oh my, I can't stop listening to the podversion of [livejournal.com profile] devildoll's SGA fic "Junk Cheap". This fic is like... like comfort food for me. Whenever I feel down, I listen to this podfic by [livejournal.com profile] zoetrope. Not only is the story itself funny but she also reads it in a terrific way! There aren't many podficers that good...

I spent the day just lazying around since my uncle and aunt are over for a couple of days. I also read some awesome SG:A fics!

Stargate: Atlantis fic recs:
SLASH --> "Existence As Interesting As Possible" by Wax Jism. McShep pairing. After being chased by a dragon, John and Rodney are stranded on a crumpling planet together. I loved this line: He would still think of them as deer, though, he decided. Dragons, okay. He drew the line at unicorns. Heh! Words: 10.000.

GEN --> "Detox" by Jane St. Clair. McKay and Zelenka are put through a detox. Words: 3.000+

Also, [livejournal.com profile] issaro finished reading the first fourth of [livejournal.com profile] dsudis' due South fic "Hawks and Hands". Over 7 hours of podfic and that's just the first 100 or so pages of the 400 pages fic! Awesome, simply awesome!

* What Justice League character am I? )

* This morning, I was de-friended by a girl that I thought I was good friends with. Maybe my whiny rant from yesterday disgusted her? Who knows. Ah, well, c'est la vie... *shrugs*

* Oh my, I love it when characters in fics say "Hush"! And in podfics, it sounds even better. Especially when Rodney says it to John. Aww... *melts*

* I'm reading Supernatural's Official Companion, Season 1. Most of the stuff there is pretty well-known already, but some of the bits and pieces are quite interesting. Like for example Amy Acker being from Dallas too. Heh, that amused me X)

--> My boss "ordered" me to read Kim Harrison's books for evaluation. Oh, the hardship *strikes a dramatic fainting pose*

--> I need to start editing "Dragons of a Vanished Moon" today. Puh on that. I hate editing! X(

--> Since my Alphonse Mucha jigsaw puzzle is done and finished, I started to crochet once again while watching TV/listening to podfics.

--> Now that I finished watching T:TSCC, I need to finish Torchwood and re-watched the whole series of Stargate: Atlantis (before [livejournal.com profile] saidrifter chains me to my chair to make me do it XD).

--> Last night, I listened to the podversion of the SG:A fic "Catch 19" by [livejournal.com profile] mmmchelle (the fic itself is f-locked :( though the podversion isn't!) and I love it. John marrying Rodney to become a citizen of Canada, John calling Rodney "dear", "sweetheart" and "darling" to raise his hackles... XD

--> Also last night, I re-watched bits and pieces of SPN's Mystery Spot and I noticed one thing: You remember the first scene in the bathroom, Sam making a face at the toothpaste, then watching Dean gargle? Take a good look at Jared when gargling Jensen turns to look at him and smiles - Jared is grinning! I know that he's turned away, but look at his cheeks, how they totally dimple! XD

--> I'm still reading Camille Bacon-Smith's "Daemon Eyes". The book is very good - but it has almost 600 pages 8)

--> I find this icon *points* incredibly hot!
katikat: (Default)
I really, really need to find a bigger version of these NCIS promo pictures...

Pics! )

They are awesome, aren't they? *flails* Though it's too bad that there are so few well written fics in this fandom. It's like with Psych - awesome series, bad bad bad fanfiction X( Most of the fics would benefit of a very good beta *nods*

I found an old interview with Robert Sean Leonard aka Wilson from House. He talked a bit about Hugh Laurie and I especially loved this part:

TV Guide: Why have you described him as "an 8-year-old"?
Leonard: Here's an example: We went to a benefit the other night and they showed a scene from House. Hugh sat with his fingers in his ears. It's one thing not to watch yourself — it's another thing to hum "London Bridge" with your fingers in your ears in public. [Laughs]

*giggles*

I totally and completely fell in love with SG:A's Sheppard/McKay pairing. Like really. Totally. It's awesome! *rolls in the pretty* Yes, you hear right, my dear [livejournal.com profile] saidrifter ;P

Just last night, I listened to the podfic version of an awesome AU fic: "Junk Cheap" by [livejournal.com profile] devildoll! In this fic, Rodney is a college professor and John owns a junk shop. It's so funny and touching and overall an awesome feel!good story :)

And since I'm already talking about podfics and podficers... I have a new reader to stalk besides [livejournal.com profile] issaro and [livejournal.com profile] zabira - [livejournal.com profile] zoetrope! She has an amazing voice, so clear and nice to listen to! It's just... wow!

No new Numb3rs today *pouts*
katikat: (Default)
I'm still high on podfics! I have like a ton of them downloaded with no order whatsoever so I will have to listen to all of them and sort them out somehow, at least by fandom. What a hardship ;P

Last night, I listened to [livejournal.com profile] dodificus' podversion of [livejournal.com profile] sardonicsmiley's Wincest fic "Wings Wetted Down". The fic itself is so good - Dean with wings is always awesome! - and the podversion is great too! *rolls in the pretty*

And I stumbled across a SG:A fic with over 170.000 words. 19 hours of podfic, almost 1GB of .mp3 files. Wow!

Also, House fic recs! H/W SLASH...
"Dr Hannibal Lecher" by [livejournal.com profile] hwshipper. Wilson gets sexually harassed by a creepy OMC. House blows a gasket! XD Awesome!

"Rough Justice" and "Tender Mercies" by [livejournal.com profile] daasgrrl. Wilson makes a deal with Tritter to save House from prison. Non-con!
katikat: (Default)
House fics rock! Though this fandom is quite obsessed with death fics... But it's awesome that there is a fic finding comm dedicated to House/Wilson fics only: [livejournal.com profile] hw_reqs! *flails*

As you know, I'm not into SG:A fics but last night, I listened to [livejournal.com profile] issaro's podversion of [livejournal.com profile] astolat's fic "Time in the Bottle". And oh my, that fic is so good, astolat and issaro both have the voices of Rodney and John down so well! I think I might be tempted to try other fics in this fandom, starting with other podfics *nodnod*

Fannish!

You know, Jared's been talking about how much he loves the episodes where Sam and Dean fight against each other. I mean physically. That's why he loves Skin or BUaBS so much. And he says that he would like to see Sam and Dean do that in future episodes too, that he would like to see what would make the brothers choose opposite sides and fight against each other instead of side by side.

Err, no. Please, Kripke, don't go there. This brother-against-brother horse has been beaten to death in tons of other shows already. And I hated it every frickin' time. Sure, it's fun for one ep or two or in fanfics but as a longer arc or even as a whole new direction... Just don't. Please.

I would like to see Sam get his powers back and become all mighty and powerful and go all demonic and dark against Lilith, but only if Dean stayed by his side, trying to restrain his... err, "urges" - not that way, sheesh! - trying to be his conscience but at the same time doing his best to protect Sam too. That would be awesome, but Dean vs. Sam - definitely no!

Oh my, I fell under the spell of House MD fanfics once again! And that thanks to [livejournal.com profile] wihluta's podversion of "A Modest Proposal" by [livejournal.com profile] ignazwisdom - 56.000 words of an awesome House/Wilson fic! *rolls in the pretty*

And since I'm already talking about House/Wilson, there is a cute vid over on YT: 10 best House/Wilson moments XD

And, it's my mother's birthday today, so I gave her books! \o/ Dean Koontz's "Odd Thomas" and "Forever Odd", "The Face" and "Velocity", Amanda Quick's "Ravished", Catherine Coulter's "Evening Star" and Steven Barnes' "Blood Brothers".

Also, I went to the mall and had a lunch with the twins today and I bought more books... Rebecca Hagan Lee's trilogy "Once a Mistress", "Ever a Princess" and "Always a Lady" and Sharan Newman's "Death Comes as Epiphany".

And, if that wasn't enough, I bought DVDs! The miniseries The Secret of the Sahara with Michael York and Andie MacDowell, the old Czech comedy with Vlasta Burian Když Burian prášil (which is hilarious!), the Hong Kong movie Infernal Affairs 2 and The Contractor with Wesley Snipes and Lena Headey. So yeah *dead*

Spoilers )

Ratings for this episode in the final numbers: 14.05 mil.

You know, [livejournal.com profile] nu_breed's podversion of [livejournal.com profile] veronamay's J2 fic made me actually cry. Like really. When Jensen called Chris to make a confession, I bawled my eyes out. Just like when Bob found the message for Jared *sniff*
katikat: (Default)
Yay, I finally received Richard Stevenson's "Death Trick", the 1st novel in the Donald Strachey Mysteries *does the victory dance* And I know why it took it so long to get here: one little book -> a huge box. And I mean huge! Sheesh! *shakes head*

Continuing my Persuaders marathon! Two eps last night. And my favorite one? Five Miles to Midnight, the one with young Joan Collins. It was so funny!

Danny: "How is it that you're always clean?"
Brett: "Because I think clean."
Danny: "Oh, dear dear dear dear dear..."

*giggles* So funny! XD

If you haven't yet, go and download and listen to [livejournal.com profile] issaro's pod version of Ridley C. James' Supernatural AU fic "Growing Pains". It's an awesome story and [livejournal.com profile] issaro does little Sammy so well! I need to listen to it again today and leave feedback! *makes a mental note*

And what shows do you plan to buy on DVD this year, my dear friends? I'm definitely buying...

Supernatural (well, duh!), Blood Ties (Vicky! Henry! Mike!), Psych (Shawn!), Eureka (yes, I admit it, I have a crush on Sheriff Carter XD), Chuck (that show is a must!have)... at the least!

And that's just the new ones! Ouch! My poor bank account. Hehe... :)

Yesterday, I finished translating and editing R. A. Salvatore's "Sojourn" and today, I started working on Barb and J.C. Hendee's "Rebel Fay", the 5th book in their "Noble Dead" series. Boy, these authors really do love their apostrophes *disgruntled*

I finished reading Sedonia Guillone's "His Beautiful Samurai" and I posted my review in my GoodReads account. Which I invite you to join, BTW. Come and friend me, I'm curious about what you read :)

Fic rec! CWRPS, Jared/Jensen:
"This, That, and Them" by [livejournal.com profile] mijmeraar. It's a cute established relationship fic set in the canonical universe. There are short and funny episodes from their lives. It's about getting another chance whenever you screw up. A very feel!good kind of story.

Some people just refuse to understand that simple .mp3 players just won't play .m4bs files *shakes head*

I'm thinking about joining some 50-book-challenge at the beginning of 2008. Maybe that will force me to read more books!

You know what rills me up? When fans say what other fans must do. If they said that fans should or could something, fine. But this... It makes me feel like a bad fan when I don't agree with them and don't do what they consider "necessary" *sigh*

Hey, you know what? Now that the writers are striking and the actors soon won't have anything to do, they could make lotsa ep commentaries for future DVDs. Wouldn't it be awesome if Jared, Jensen, Kripke, Manners and others made a commentary to each and every ep during the strike? I mean, it would be better than to just put the actors etc. on hiatus, right? There could be some behind the scene stuff with all the crew members, not just the actors, to give the crew something to do too. I think that fans would be delighted!

And now to podfics...

Whenever I feel down, I listen to [livejournal.com profile] zabira's audio version of Speranza's due South fic "Juggling Act". The masturbating parrot gets me every time! :D

And if you want to have a good cry, then listen to [livejournal.com profile] zabira's audio version of another due South fic by Speranza, "Passion". This one made me actually cry and hurt for Fraser *sniff*

And some fic recs, of course! *beams*

GEN --> "Seeds of Vengence" by [livejournal.com profile] isolde13. Beware, there is some Sam/Dean non-con and it's MPREG! The YED possessed Sam, raped Dean and left him with a little something... This fic is nonetheless very gen after the... act. One of the best SPN MPREGs out there!

WINCEST --> "Demons Made Me Spill My Guts Like a Little Girl" by [livejournal.com profile] walkawayslowly. A demon possessed Dean and killed everybody the Winchesters knew. And then the demon simply left and Sam and Dean had to pick up the pieces. Very, very good.
katikat: (Default)
Yay, another psychic!Dean fic! "The Skin Horse" by [livejournal.com profile] kellifer_fic! Whenever Dean touches something, he can read the thing's past. Hehe, there aren't enough psychic!Dean fics out there *izinlove*

And if you like [livejournal.com profile] esohpe's "The Jared Padalecki Untitled Project", a CWRPS story, go and download and listen to [livejournal.com profile] issaro's audio version. 5+ hours of an amazing fic. I spent the whole last night listening to it... and playing mahjong on my PC XP

[livejournal.com profile] issaro and [livejournal.com profile] zabira are, hands down, the best "readers" out there. They both have a very clear voice, they don't mumble or fumble with words. It's pleasure to listen to them *izcontent*

And I know that this article is old news but I truly love this part:

“It is what it is, it’s weird,” the talented young actor said with a gentle laugh when asked about the Supernatural merchandise springing up around him. “All I know is my mother keeps calling me going ‘how can I get my hands on the thing with the thing’ and I’m going what? I don’t even know what that is!”

The "gentle laugh" gets me every time I read that *giddy* And in the audio version of this itty bitty part, he really does "laugh gently" *swoons*
