Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trailer
Aug. 4th, 2014 11:56 pmHm. Not bad. I used to be a big fan of TMNT as a kid. But my favorite turtle movie is TMNT from 2007, the one where Chris Evans voiced Casey. That one had a really cool storyline and I adored the relationship between Rafael and Leonardo. Leo's been always my favorite turtle. I just have a thing for guys with katanas.
So, I guess I'll go and see it in the cinema. Probably. Maybe. I still don't know. If there won't be anything else...
Transformers: Age of Extinction
Jun. 30th, 2014 11:53 pmTitle: Transformers: Age of Exctinction (2014)
Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor
Rating: 3/10
Do. Not. Bother. Seriously, just don't. Save your money for something worthwhile. Unless all you need is for something to go boom on-screen every five minutes or so. Because this movie is downright stupid. All the Transformer movies before? Shakespeare compared to this drivel! I gave it 3 stars only because the special effects are top notch.
The whole Yeager family drama with a loser dad and "I know better" teenage daughter? God. At least Megan Fox's Mikaela was useful and smart and she actually helped. Tessa? By the end of the movie I hoped one of the robots would stomp on her and deliver us from her whiny petulance. And let's not forget her Hemsworth-like clone of a boyfriend, boning an underage girl and carrying around a card with the "Romeo and Juliet" law written on it to justify that. Eww... Just, eww! The way the family always argued, the way the girl never did as she was told, always, ALWAYS complaining! Give me back Sam Witwicky, seriously!
I wish the movie had been about the crazy billionaire, Joyce, and his ex-wife - played by the beautiful Sophia Myles - and his kick-ass Chinese assistant - played by Bingbing Li. Now THAT would've been awesome. But no, we just HAD TO get a moody teenage damsel in distress with pouty lips, big boobs and in the tiniest cut-offs I've ever seen! Sheesh on a pogo stick. Yes, I do have many feels about that!
And the transformers themselves. Wow. How can you make a boring group of transformers! Yet Bay managed it. Bumblebee is delegated to a minor spot and then there's the Asian-like warrior, the opportunist and the fat old veteran. And that's it. Eh.
Once again, don't bother. It's not worth it.

Title: Divergent (2014)
Cast: Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Zoƫ Kravitz, Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney
Rating: 8/10 or 4/5
I didn't like the book. I actually dropped it. But I loved the movie! I guess it was something about the writing itself, about the style, that put me off, not the story itself. Interesting.
But what I loved best was the cast, especially Tris and Four, Shailene Woodley and Theo James. Man, their chemistry was off the charts. I loved it. I guess that's why I liked the movie so much, because of their story. That was wonderful... *happy sigh*
What was also great were the visuals. It looked like 100+ mil. movie, definitely. And the action sequences! That was great.
So, I'm really glad we went to see it. We had to choose between this and the new Spiderman movie but since I've never been a big fan of Spidey, I voted for this one gladly. Go see it, if you haven't yet, folks. It's great, even if you didn't like the book.

Falling for Young Adult
Mar. 6th, 2014 12:09 amNovels! ;) I can't believe I'm saying this because I've never liked YA books, not even as a young adult, but... I'm actually, honest to God falling in love with young adult stuff, especially dystopian novels. I think it might have a LOT to do with Dylan O'Brien playing Thomas in The Maze Runner which will appear in the cinemas in September this year. I'm almost finished with the book and the idea of it is great - though he writing not so much. I think it might be one of those books that look better on-screen due to the epic scale of its setting. Just the maze itself... And also, Dylan O'Brien ;) The trailer should be out in 2 weeks, attached to Divergent, I guess...
Speaking of which...
It looks good. And I like the actor playing Four, Theo James. Hopefully, it won't flop like The Mortal Instruments, The Vampire Academy, The Host or Beautiful Creatures. So far, out of all the YA novel based movies only Twilight and The Hunger Games became a real hit. Everything else is flopping really hard. Which is too bad... :(

Much Ado About Nothing, Thursday Edition
Dec. 5th, 2013 04:49 pmThe Amazing Spiderman 2. Looks much better than #1. But it also made me want to re-watch #1, which I own on DVD. Interesting...
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Production Diary #13. Gosh, I can't believe it's only a week away!
Universal posted a tribute to Paul Walker: link. I still haven't had the courage to watch it because I know I will bawl like a little kid... But I hear it's wonderful.
Syfy ordered Dominion to series: link. It's based on the apocalyptic movie Legion and it will feature actors like Chris Egan or Anthony Stuart Head. I didn't like the movie but the synopsis of the series sounds interesting. I will give it a shot!
And BBC canceled Ripper Street: link. I haven't been watching it but I know someone on my flist was. So... condolences, fan.
Robocop Remake Trailer
Sep. 6th, 2013 09:42 amThis actually looks really good. And to people who complain about how lame this will be compared to the original: no, just no. I loved the original as a kid. But now that I saw it again few months ago? Sheesh on a pogo stick it didn't age well. I actually LOL'd several times. Don't get me wrong, Peter Weller was amazing as Robocop, the way he moved, the way he acted Murphy's robotic persona... That was amazing. But the rest? Cheap B-movies are better today.
So yeah, at first I pretty much rolled my eyes when I heard about it but after seeing this? BRING IT! Hopefully, all the good parts weren't stuffed into the trailer.
Now THAT's Unexpected
Sep. 2nd, 2013 06:34 pmApparently, Charlie Hunnam was cast as Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey: link.
Interesting. I have never read the books so I don't have an automatic adverse reaction to this news. And since he was in Queer As Folk UK, we know that he isn't exactly shy when it comes to nudity and on-screen sex. Might be interesting. Though male Dom and female Sub isn't exactly my cuppa, I prefer it the other way around...
Oh, and Dakota Johnson will be playing Anastasia. Just FYI.

Now You See Me Sequel
Aug. 10th, 2013 10:01 amNow You See Me is getting a sequel: link. The whole main cast - Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, and Mark Ruffalo - will be back!
YAY! Loved the movie, loved the twist at the very end. Awesome! And it was one of the surprise hits this year, together with Hansel & Gretel. These films were written off even before they were released - and then they tripled or even quadrupled their budget. Huzzah!

Tyler Hoechlin for Batman?
Jul. 26th, 2013 01:08 pm
Regarding the new Batman, Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf, Lincoln Heights, 7th Heaven, Road To Perdition) is being heavily considered for the part and will be getting a screen test alongside Henry Cavill. Warner Bros. and Snyder are looking at somebody to play the new Batman with a reputation similar to Cavill's, when Cavill was testing for Superman. It's also said that better known actors could also be testing for the role. As filming is expected to begin in early 2014, screen tests should be happening soon.

Yeah, I'm considering this a rumor but MAN! If that happened? I would suddenly be much more interested in the MoS sequel. Right now, it's on my "Wait and See" list. But if Tyler got the part of Bruce Wayne? I would be all "GIMME! GIMME! GIMME!"
Trailers & DVDs
Jul. 13th, 2013 05:47 pmTrailers seen:
Elysium - look, I love sci-fi and maybe I'm totally wrong in this case, but gosh, it looks so boring! Yet another "let's overthrow the system and topple the rich!" shtick. Not even Matt Damon and Jodie Foster make it look interesting. I guess, if there won't be anything else in the cinema that week, I might go and see it, but right now, I don't get what people are so excited about. Nothing we haven't seen done a dozen times over, several times this very year!
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters - if I were a kid, I would swallow it with a spoon. But since I'm not a kid... eh.
White House Down - several months ago, I was excited. Now... eh. I think I will wait for the DVDs. IMHO, the trailer for Olympus Has Fallen looked much better.
Wolverine - I do want to see this in the cinema but the first Wolverine movie was a huge bust, boring as hell and whatnot, and I'm not that big a fan of Wolverine. Actually, I wish they would stop forcing him in every X-Men movie! But it's X-Men. I will go and see it in the cinema in 14 days.
DVDs bought:
Hollywoodland - reading the summary, it sounded very noir. And I like Adrien Brody. And it cost me $2.5 only, so...
Stay - looks like a supernatural thriller with Ryan Gosling and Ewan McGregor. That's pretty much all I needed to know :P
Trainspotting - yes, I haven't seen the movie yet. Not really my cuppa but everybody seems to rave about it and it cost me only $1, so...
Unstoppable - gosh, GOSH, they had the movie in the sales bin! Chris Pine and Denzel Washington! I have wanted to buy it for ages and now I got it for $4 only! I love it when Datart has a sale!

Pacific Rim
Jul. 13th, 2013 05:21 pm
( Spoilers! )
I would give this movie 8/10. Loved Raleigh and Mako and the mecha fights, but could do without the secondary characters. I was happy with what I saw but considering Guillermo del Toro's fame, I expected something more, character wise. The action was excellent, though.
Guillermo del Toro on Crimson Peak
Jul. 1st, 2013 11:01 amShooting doesn't begin until February 2014, but a cast is already in place. Charlie Hunnam, Mia Wasikowska, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jessica Chastain will star.
"Crimson Peak is a much, much, much smaller movie, completely character-driven," said Del Toro in a one-on-one interview. "It's an adult movie, an R-rated movie, pretty adult. Shockingly different from anything I've done in the English language. Normally, when I go to do a movie in America for the spectacle and younger audience, for Blade or whatever. This movie's tone is scary and it's the first time I get to do a movie more akin to what I do in the Spanish movies." (...) "This is a Gothic romance, haunted house, in the north of England."
(...) Tonally, Del Toro said Crimson Peak "has moments that are very visceral, physical violence. You're in this sort of sedate romance and then there is this brutal moment where you're like, "Whoa!" And it has a lot of kinky moments."
Source
Kinky, huh? A kinky movie with Benedict Cumberbatch? :P Gosh, I just hope he won't be playing a sleaze in it like he did in Atonement, that would be awful :( Also, del Toro obviously loves to work with Charlie Hunnam. First he He cast him in Pacific Rim and now in Crimson Peak. Cool!
Man of Steel
Jun. 29th, 2013 08:12 pm
( Incredible special effects. But I think a movie, even a blockbuster, needs something more... )
To sum it up, Henry Cavill is a great Superman. But the movie is too dreary. And I now ship Jor-El and Zod. I liked it better than Iron Man 3 and Furious 6 but not as much as Star Trek Into Darkness. I would give it 7/10.
Surrender Dorothy
Jun. 24th, 2013 11:47 pmI really need to get Surrender Dorothy on DVD. And the #1 reason?

Chris Pine playing a sweet gay man. He's fantastic in this role. People who say he's a bad actor should really watch him in this part!
And suddenly I feel like watching Blind Dating again. Another movie where he's a cutie pie! He has the most beautiful smile... *_*

Trailers & DVDs
Jun. 16th, 2013 10:23 amTrailers I saw yesterday at the cinema:
Pain and Gain - whoever thought this was a good idea? O.o Not even Dwayne Johnson could make me want to see this!
Man of Steel - this time they showed the trailer that's narrated by Zod. MUCH better than the previous one with Clark as a kid. This trailer actually made me want to see the film!
RIPD - great special effects but I'm honestly iffy about Ryan Reynolds as the lead. He's cute and sweet but he simply lacks charisma.
The Heat - looks hilarious, though I'm a bit afraid that all the good puns have already been put in the trailer and the rest will be a disappointment. DVD material for me, I think.
DVDs I bought:
Contagion - I love every actor in the cast! That's why I bought it.
Transformers 3 - only because it was on sale and I already own parts 1+2. So...
Welcome to the Punch - GOSHGOSHGOSH! They had WttP with James McAvoy! My friends LOL'd at my reaction when I spotted it!

Okay, I'm back again with that big deal that I couldn't talk about but couldn't shut up about either. Well, now I can talk about it, because today it came true. Guillermo del Toro, director of PAN'S LABYRINTH, HELLBOY, and the upcoming PACIFIC RIM, has cast me in one of five leading roles in his new film CRIMSON PEAK, a Gothic ghost story also starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Jessica Chastain, and Charlie Hunnam. We start shooting in Toronto in January.

YES! I'm so happy for him. I don't want Bobby back on SPN - the boys already outgrew him - but I'm so happy for Jim that someone's finally acknowledging his talent on the big screen too!
Just one thing: Jessica Chastain dropped out of the movie. It looks like Mia Wasikowska will replace her.
Trailers & DVDs
Jun. 9th, 2013 01:59 pmYesterday, I saw these trailers at the cinema, in the correct order...
Now You See Me - MUST SEE! NEXT WEEKEND WITH THE TWINS! Looks really great and I love heist movies.
The Lone Ranger - Really? Like... really? Johnny Depp playing Cpt. Jack Sparrow 8.0? Remember the time when he was considered a versatile actor? Stupid looking movie. This will be the Wild Wild West of 2013.
The Man of Steel - Hm. Looks good but too... dark. They seem to take themselves way too seriously. And I want to smash Jonathan Kent's face. Like really? Clark should've let every one of the kids die to hide his powers? Also, I like Henry Cavill, liked him in The Immortals and Monte Cristo, but I'm not sure if he was charisma enough to carry this part. Also, I just don't like Superman that much, to be honest.
The Wolverine - Boring. Everybody's been swooning about this trailer but I was mostly, like, that's it? It looked all over the place, to be honest. And I don't get the insane love Wolverine inspires in fans.
Pacific Rim - I think it will be a very good movie but the rubber monsters looked really, really dumb on the big screen. Give me CGI any day. On the comp, the trailer looked amazing. But at the cinema? The fakeness of the rubber stuff was cringe-worthy. Also, Idris Elba, as much as I adore him, simply doesn't have the voice for rousing speeches.
I also bought several DVDs...
Confessions of a Shopaholic - I don't care about the movie but it has HUGH DANCY, so I'm in!
Sliding Doors - I don't even know why I bought this one. I think the premise reminded me of JGL's Uncertainty. And I quite like Gwyneth Paltrow. Also, it cost me only $1, so...
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - The one with Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist, that is. Yes, I still haven't seen/read any of the Millenium movies/books.
Sword of Gideon - Michael York and Steve Bauer as Mossad agents hunting down the Black September terrorists. Loved the movie when I first saw it.
And two more episodes from the Russian Sherlock Holmes series...
Yeah, yeah, I promised myself not to buy any more DVDs, but come on! Some of those were $1 only!
