"Yami no Matsuei Vol. 8" by Yoko Matsushita

4 stars out of 5

This is the last volume that I own and considering the series is unfinished, I don't think I'll be buying the rest. I decided to stop reading at the point where the anime ended.

I loved this volume. Tsuzuki's craziness and suicidal tendencies, Muraki's obsession, Oriya's friendship... Tatsumi, Hisoka and Watari... Yet, I couldn't give it 5 stars because at the volume's end, nothing actually changed: Muraki was still out there, Tsuzuki was still food obsessed, Hisoka still complained, Tatsumi still raged about expenses... It felt as if everything they had gone through was forgotten.

"Yami no Matsuei Vol. 7" by Yoko Matsushita

4 stars out of 5

Finally, the return of Muraki and of the games he loves to play with Tsuzuki. I loved that both Tatsumi and Hisoka got to be there for Tsuzuki. Man, Tatsumi can be a real bad-ass when he wants to! And Hisoka! When he finally realized that he couldn't let Muraki take Tsuzuki away from him too! That was awesome. And I felt so sorry for Tsuzuki because of everything he had gone through in his life...

"Yami no Matsuei Vol. 5" by Yoko Matsushita

4 stars out of 5

Most of the volume was set in a different dimension of a kind - Tsuzuki was pulled into a book and became a part of the storyline there. I liked that it offered us an insight into Tatsumi's feelings because inside the book, his character, the reflection of the real Tatsumi, was in love with Tsuzuki's counterpart and was willing to do anything to ensure her - yes, Tsuzuki's character was female - happiness. It makes you wonder if the real Tatsumi a) loves Tsuzuki or b) is actually in love with him, just like in the book.

"Yami no Matsuei Vol. 6" by Yoko Matsushita

3 stars out of 5

Silliness pure. Not my thing, really. I prefer it when the funny stuff is peppered with something deeper. There were three stories in this volume: the reopening of the library Tsuzuki had destroyed while possessed, Tsuzuki and Hisoka's business trip to Okinawa and Tsuzuki and Watari chibified by one of Watari's potions. I hope the next volume's a bit more serious.

"Yami no Matsuei Vol. 4" by Yoko Matsushita

4 stars out of 5

This manga is two parts fluff, one part creepy horror, all wrapped up in a beautiful package. In the first chapter, the whole Enma-cho department goes on a vacation together. In the second chapter, they look for the Winter Queen that went missing. In the third and fourth chapter, they take part in an archery competition. But the fifth part is where it gets über-creepy with devils and zombies and murdered, mutilated boys. And the whole thing is riddled with yaoi hints and insinuations (in part five, it turns fairly graphic, but not with the main characters). And I love it!

I went on an Amazon rampage again. Lotsa manga was bought!

"Yami no Matsuei 5+6" - which means that I'm now up to book 8 and I don't know if I will continue with the series. After book 8, Yoko Matushita totally lost control of the plot. Besides, the series is still not finished - and probably never will be. Book 8 is the place where the anime ended...
"Tsubasa Chronicles 1" - I didn't really want to buy this series since it didn't catch my interest as anime but while reading "xxxHolic", I realized that I'm missing a huge part of the overall story. So, yeah...
"Gestalt 6-8" - and I'm now up-to-date with this series by Yun Kouga. It's so dark and creepy and not funny as it seemed at the beginning. But I love it nonetheless! \o/

Also, I've been reading Mark Del Franco's "Unshapely Things" and it's really good. People compare it to Butcher's "Harry Dresden" series but I like the druid Jango Dent much better than the wizard Harry Dresden, don't know why.

* I'm reading "Yami no Matsuei" (Descendants of Darkness) vol. 3 at the moment and I have to wonder in what GR shelf this one belongs. Is it still non-yaoi or is it already yaoi? Because it's definitely not shoujo anymore and it never was a shounen thing. I mean, Tsuzuki and Hisoka are not lovers, that's for sure, but Muraki... In this volume, it was made obvious that Muraki had raped Hisoka before he killed him and then he assaulted and blackmailed Tsuzuki on the ship... So, is it yaoi or not? *tilts head, confused*

* This review of the latest Eureka ep summed up my misgivings about the show as of late perfectly.

* I have yet to watch any of the new eps of Bones. And I feel no real urge to do it any time soon. I'm not sure why. Last season finale was completely ridiculous and so OOC that it really affected my love for this show :(

I didn't sleep well last night. Actually, I didn't sleep at all from 5am to 6am because there was lightning, thunder, buckets and buckets of rain and hail all at once. It felt like the sky just opened and dumped it all down on us. Yikes! *scared*

I finished reading Yoko Matushita's "Yami no Matsuei 2", the volume that contains the "Devil's Trill" arc - awesome, awesome stuff! I wonder though. Is "Yami no Matsuei" Yoko Matushita's only manga? That would be too bad because her style is amazing.

And now I picked up "Supernatural: The Official Companion 2" by Nicholas Knight and Tohko Mizuno's "In a Distant Time 5" *happy*

Oh, and I hope to finally finish "Enchanter" by Sara Douglass today. Only 4 more chapters and it's over. I think I might cry with the happy once I'm done with this book!

I finished Matsuri Akino's "Genju no Seiza 1" and let me tell you, this mangaka has some issues with animals XD As in Akino's other series, "Petshop of Horrors", there are man-eating animals here again! It's not a bad manga per se, but not as engaging as PSoH. In PSoH, it was Count D and Leon and their relationship that made the series so interesting. GnS doesn't have such fascinating characters, unfortunately. I have one more book at home, if it doesn't pick up though, I won't be buying any more :(

And now I'm reading Yoko Matushita's "Yami no Matsuei 1". Wow. Oh wow. Great story, awesome, awesome drawings - I saw the anime that was inspired by this manga and I have to say that the manga is definitely more beautiful visually. Especially Tsuzuki. I know that the mangaka herself and even the characters call Hisoka the "beauty", but I always liked Tsuzuki better. He's gorgeously drawn. Also, what amused me was the mangaka saying that she "toned down" Muraki, made him less creepy. Okay, if that's less creepy I would love to see the "original" O.o Because Muraki is one of the creepiest characters ever! It's just too bad that this series was never finished, that it just dissipated with book 11 :(

Today, I've received two parcels from Amazon (yayayay!!!) and in one of them, there was the "Yellow 4" manga by Makoto Tateno. Naturally, I had to read that one first, having read the previous three in the series. I was really looking forward to this one since the third volume ended with a cliffhanger. Unfortunately, the 4th volume rather disappointed me. I thought/hoped that it would be suspensive, touching, a little sad but that it would grip me from the first page. Nothing was farther from the reality :(

Cutting it because this review will be full of spoilers! )

I think that the quality of "Yellow" was dropping rapidly with each volume and I'm rather glad that it ended where it ended and that there are no more books in this series. I've hoped that this series would be as good as "Fake" but it really didn't reach that level.

Overall, I would give this series 3,5 - 4 stars maximum, but this volume would be 2,5 stars at the most. I'm very disappointed :(
