Of actors and The Sentinel

I just ordered The Sentinel S1 on DVD. I suddenly felt a strong urge to see the show again. I mean, Jim and Blair and Simon! \o/ Too bad that the other seasons aren't out on DVD yet :( Would you believe that I saw that show in three different languages and none of them was English?

Also, I added Early Edition S1 to my Amazon wish list. How I loved this show! *sigh* Would you believe that I have no idea how it ended, though? The same goes for The Pretender. My interest just waned. But that's what DVDs are for, right? :)

And actors. I love Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. I love to read about them, about their con attendances, about their banter and bickering off-screen, about the pranks. But I don't feel any urge to see them in something else besides SPN.

With Joe Flanigan, it's just the opposite. It's enough for me to know that he's happy with his wife and his three sons, I don't need details or interviews etc. But I already bought two movies that he was in just because he was in them. And that's why I will keep buying SGA in any sort and form, as long as he's in it. And I will look for more movies/series with him in the future. I hope that he'll get to play detective again. I love him as a cop! :)

Oh, and I re-watched SGA's Ghost in the Machine. I do understand why some people might not like the main storyline of this ep, but I adore, love the the beginning. Flying monkeys! Jumper mishap! John immediately knowing that the flickering lights were Rodney's fault. His "Rodney!" when the bolt almost hit him! It's so cool that when I feel down, I watch the first ten minutes over and over again! \o/

Just a quickie...

* I think I'm losing interest in Eureka. The series lost most of its "shiny" and with the more quirky characters like spoilers ) gone, the show lost a lot of what made it attractive to me in the first place *sigh*

* Hm, did Jared grow even more huge over the hiatus or what? I mean, watching SPN's ep 4x01 again, Jensen looks literally tiny next to him - small and slim - and we know that in reality, Jensen is definitely not tiny. But Jared's muscled arms, his shoulders... Wow!

* A funny SGA McShep fic rec! "A Place On The Corner" by [livejournal.com profile] almostnever. John owns a bakery, Rodney is a scientist. Such a warm, feel!good fic with no angst whatsoever. Just a fluffy romance. Words: 8.000+.

SPN, yummy *drools*

So yeah, I've already watched the season 4 premiere like 4 times... Me, obssessed? Naaaaaaah ;P And after watching it so many times, I really love the new music. I mean, the scores. It's more of an undertone to the episode, it makes it stand out more than in previous seasons - or maybe I'm just more sensitive to it now that I learned more about the music on SGA and Joel Goldsmith's beautiful scores. I especially loved the building crescendo in the last scene when the revelation came. Awesome!

And you know what? Some spoilery thoughts for 4x01... )

Also, I love this little interview with Jim Beaver:
I asked Jim to describe his two co-stars in two sentences. Jared came easy.
“Jared Padalecki is the world’s tallest rascal. He’s irreverent, full of jokes, full of fun and really, really good at what he does.”

Jensen took a bit more thought.
“Jensen’s not as wild as Jared, but he’s just as funny and he’s really deeply devoted to what he does for a living. He’s a sweet guy, which is something coming from a guy like me.”

Bullet points...

* My birthday pressie is here, [livejournal.com profile] dinofly. And it's awesome! *hugs the book* Thank you so much :)

* Hehe, Jared and Jensen attended the Red Bull SoapBox Derby in Vancouver! They are so hot and awesome! *swoons*

* After reading Joe Mallozzi's blog, I feel even more angry about the cancellation of SGA. Now I'm literally furious! Joe M.'s spoilery comment on the latest ep of SGA and possible future consequences that could have been explored in S6... )

Supernatural's "The Official Companion, S2"

Some interesting tidbits about Jared and Jensen from the companion:
* Sam Ferris: "Working with the guys is absolutely fantastic. Those boys are two of the nicest, gentlest, most professional guys you'll ever work with. And they're hilarious."
* Jim Beaver: "What I feel toward Jared and Jensen is similar to the way Bobby feels toward Sam and Dean. It's less parent-child relationship, though, it's much more like I got a couple of kid brothers."
* Alona Tal (she was in the Israeli army!): "When you work with Jared and Jensen, they are the most hilarious duo. Together, they share a brain or something."
* Chad Lindberg: "Jared and Jensen are the two sweetest guys in the world."
* Jeffrey Dean Morgan: "Dean took (John's death) a lot harder than Sam did. I think it's because Jensen loves me more than Jared does."
* Samantha Smith: "It's funny - these maternal feelings come out in me when I'm around them, even though they're way too old to really be my kids. I do feel very protective of them and want to make sure they're doing okay."
* Jeannie Chow (key hairstylist): "(Jared's) hair gets big and curly in the rain. (...) Jensen's hair just grow so fast, you have to cut it almost twice a week so it looks the same all the time. It's like a Chia Pet. I've never seen anybody whose hair grows as fast as Jensen's."

So, I finished reading the book. Overall though, it feels like it just scraped the surface. Maybe if they cut the ep summaries to bare minimum and moved the quotes to the margins, they could squeeze much more in. Every ep commentary has the same structure - writer, director, sometimes actor, hair, makeup, props, music - so it feels a bit superficial, like it's jumping from one place to another without paying attention to anything properly. But it's still interesting and a good addition to the SPN collection :)

Bullet points...

* I'm now the proud owner of the Bourne trilogy on DVD and the first The Mummy movie! I can't wait to watch the special features...

* I didn't know that Jensen Ackles and Jim Beaver were on DOOL at the same time! Too bad that they didn't have any scenes together. I wonder if they actually knew each other from back then...

* Two awesome SGA McShep SLASH fics...
  • "Girlfriend" by Resonant. Rodney becomes a girl to be able to study Ancient technology on a particular "men-hating" planet. And he discovers that Sheppard is a very submissive lover. Words: 5.000+.
  • "There Is No Reason Why" by [livejournal.com profile] skoosiepants. Rodney is dating a scientist that's a really eerie female version of John. Everybody notices - everybody but Rodney, that is ;P. Words: 1.000+.

Fannish bullet points...

--> Due to low ratings, The Middleman was trimmed from 13 eps to 12.

--> CBS swapped Swingtown and Flashpoint. Now, Flashpoint will air Thursdays at 10/9 pm and Swingtown Fridays at 10/9 pm!

--> Jared and Jensen are still attending Comic Con but their Saturday's autograph session was canceled. Jensen will join the Supernatural producers' autograph signing at 12:30 pm/PT, in the WB Booth.

--> The CW puts Gossip Girl back on the web.

Pop!

-> I have no idea why I used this subject. I just couldn't figure out what to write in there and I hate to leave the line empty. Me anal retentive? No!

-> I just stumbled across the People's Choice Awards for the year 2008 site and it was awesome to find out that Stargate Atlantis won the "Favorite Sci-fi Show" category! :) On the other hand, Moonlight won the "Favorite New TV Drama" category and in the end, it was canceled... But it's still awesome for SGA *vbg*

-> Supernatural Actor Jensen Ackles Makes it to Emmy "Short List" Ballot. Awesome. That's the sort of positive promo Supernatural needs!

-> I didn't even start reading the big-bang fics yet! *whimpers*

-> To-Do Tattoo. People have some weird ideas, really XP

Bouncy!

-> This is my 3rd? 4th? 5th? layout in a week. Woo! XP

-> For the first time, there will be a blooper reel on the Stargate Atlantis DVDs. Yahoo for the S4 box set! *grabby hands*

-> The 2nd part of [livejournal.com profile] annkiri's report on Jared's panel. I love the fanboy's questions! And Jared talking about Jensen just makes my heart melt. Aww...

-> Fic rec time:
SPN:
WINCEST --> "Stoned" by [livejournal.com profile] setissma. Dean comes back to the motel room stoned. A great feel!good fic *vbg* Words: 1.700.

SGA:
OT4 --> "The Complexity of Daily Life" by Teaphile. The expedition had to flee from Atlantis. Now they have to make a life for themselves on a foreign planet. Rodney, Teyla and Ronon get together but John refuses to join. He's asexual and he fears how the others will react. Oh wow, there really need to be more fics about asexuality. It's quite an interesting plot, let me tell you. Words: 30.000+.

Masochistic much?

I must really be a masochist. I dared to set a foot in one of the IMDB forums and oh my gosh, so much bashing like you wouldn't believe it (in this case, it was all Jensen!bashing too *sigh*). And so many "This message has been deleted by an administrator" entries *shakes head* I will stay away from that place from now on. It scares me *hides*

Also, I just finished watching SGA's Grace Under Pressure. That ep is great on so many levels. We get an amazing insight into McKay's character and his way of thinking, we get smart!John, we get Zelenka speaking Czech - which is hilarious BTW, what he's grumbling about because it's all about the episode itself and not a part of the actual plotline and dialog *giggle-fit* And John saying that his Czech is probably getting better because he understands what Zelenka is talking about was hilarious XD. And Amanda Tapping's blue bra is actually really her own blue bra, not a costume. It's so much fun to listen to the commentary!

And then I watched the featurette about the stunts on SGA. The stunt coordinator is so awesome! And Jason Momoa actually smacked one of the stuntmen with his elbow by mistake. Ouch! Hehe, and they talked about the scene in Runner where David Hewlett actually had to hang by his leg the whole night... It's all so interesting!

Funny stuff

According to [livejournal.com profile] dean_sam's post, Supernatural got some nominations for the Constellation Awards:

* Best Science Fiction Television Series of 2007,
* Outstanding Canadian Contribution to Science Fiction Film or Television in 2007,
* Jared is nominated for Best Male Performance in a 2007 Science Fiction Television Episode for the episode "Born Under A Bad Sign",
* Jensen is nominated for Best Male Performance in a 2007 Science Fiction Television Episodefor the episode "What Is And What Should Never Be",
* "What Is & What Should Never Be" is nominated for Best Overall 2007 Science Fiction Film or Television Script.

Interesting!

I'm still reading SPN's Official Companion for S1 and I must say that so far, I liked the background info for Route 666 best. Mud fights! Snowball fights! The J2 loving snow! The J2 helping dig out the truck! So funny :) And it makes me love the ep even more!

And [livejournal.com profile] fandom_rocks is made of awesome!

The new interviews with Jared and Jensen...

... are so much fun. Though it's funny, lately it seems like Jensen is much more relaxed in public than Jared. They probably rubbed off on each other :D

So, the links to the CW Connect interviews - linking to [livejournal.com profile] dean_sam:
Jared's
Jensen's

My favorite part? Jensen poking Jared in the face, them both agreeing on Styx's Renegade and Jensen whispering "because he's so little and cute" about Kim Manners ;D

Good and less than good...

Less than good first:

* I'm still annoyed that people keep saying how Jared and Jensen are being pigeon-holed. If Jared decided to do a romantic comedy, they would go all "Oh, Jared, not another New York Minute..."

* I find it quite annoying when Bela-lovers accuse Bela-haters - count me in the second camp - of disliking Bela for being partnered with Jared and Jensen (Bela is a character, those are actors, for crying out loud) or for wanting no female characters at all on the show. Right. That's why so many of those "haters" like Ellen, Ruby, Sarah, Carmen, Lisa, Casey or even Jo and Cassie. When you lack arguments, blame it on petty jealousy X/

* It's really hard to stay enthusiastic about the translation that you work on when you feel like throttling 4/5 of the characters *head/desk* If the authors left out a half of the mind-numbing scenes where all the characters do is shuffle their feet and ponder what they should be doing, the book would definitely not have 610 pages!

And now the good stuff:

* Amazon sent me my Supernatural S2 official companion! *bounces impatiently*

* You remember me talking about that Were!chesters series that I had all planed out? I actually wrote the first fic for it last night. Woot! I'm made of awesome *so proud*

* As you know, I just can't get into SG:A fics. As much as I like Stargate: Atlantis, I just can't. But I would like to. And so I decided to try a sneaky way to get into it. My two favorite podficers, [livejournal.com profile] issaro and [livejournal.com profile] zabira turned some SG:A stories into audiofics and since I would listen to anything those two read...

* And "Daemon Eyes" by Camille Bacon-Smith is so good *rolls in the awesome*

Jensen in a movie! :)

Jensen Ackles set for 'Bloody Valentine'": In helmer Patrick Lussier's remake of the 1981 slasher film, Ackles will play Tom, a handsome, principled man who returns to his home in Harmony, Mo., 10 years after 22 people were murdered on Valentine's night. Back in Montana, Tom finds he still is smitten with his first love, Sarah (Jaime King), and is now a murder suspect.

Great! That sounds really good and I'm crossing my fingers here that he gets this role *crosses fingers*

But the fans are starting to piss me off like you wouldn't believe it. First they totally dissed and bashed Jared's new movie without frickin' seeing it, now they are saying even worse things about Jensen's new role. Yes, it's much better for him to star in independent movies like TIH that won't even get to cinemas and the execs have troubles finding anyone seriously interested in bringing it out at least on DVD (I have nothing against TIH, from what I heard it's a cool movie and I would adore to see it, but it didn't do Jensen's career much good so far since it's still a con/festival thing only).

Be happy for Jensen! This will put him in spotlight. And stop complaining until you actually saw the frickin' movie!

Of ratings and questions...

Obligatory ratings, of course, fast nationals only...

Pussycat Dolls (new) last week: 1.62 mil., this week: 1.57 mil.
Reaper (repeat) last week: 1.67 mil., this week: 1.72 mil.
NCIS (repeat) last week: 9.40 mil., this week: 10.21 mil.

You know that I don't like Reaper but I really don't get why it's not been renewed yet. When you compare the ratings of its repeats to the repeats of the early renewed Gossip Girl...

GoGi: 1.10 mil., 0.5/1 vs. Reaper 1.72 mil., 0.6/2

I mean, I have nothing against GoGi, but come on! Compared to that, Reaper is a smashing hit!

Questions I would ask various SPN con attendees...

Jared: "Sam slouches a lot... Was it the director's idea, to make Sam appear even younger, or did you come up with this characteristic yourself?" Sam looks awesome and twice as tall when he straightens! And the shoulders! *swoons*

Jensen: "Why the beard when you're off work?" Come on, that man is gorgeous when clean shaven!

Kripke: "I like demons but will we see the return of some urban legends any time soon? Or maybe a big foot or a unicorn?" I can so see Dean's expression: O.o

Frederic: "The YED's manic expression and way of talking - was it your idea?"

Chad: "Do you think that Jo and Ash would ever make a good couple or would those two drive each other batty first?"

Steve: "I love your song Pinata Novia. Do you plan to write more calming, soothing songs? Because they are awesome!"

If you could make a spin-off of Supernatural, what would it be about?

I would choose the Roadhouse. The rebuild Roadhouse, that is. Not the flattened, exploded one. The main characters? Ellen, Jo and Ash. Jo would be hunting with a female friend and not a guy that would automatically take over the role of the protector while she would do the research. No, I would like to see two girls work together, kick ass but also learn where their limits are. And I would give them bikes!

What about you?

And [livejournal.com profile] storydivagirl is hosting a Supernatural friending meme. Go and join!

ETA: Jared canceled his Asylum attendance because of filming obligations.

Of goblins and RPS

Some really funny quotes from Jim C. Hines "Goblin Hero":

* "The path to glory begins with a single step. Of course, so does the path to the headsman's block."
* "No night is so dark, no situation so dire, that the intervention of the gods cannot make it worse."
* "True heroism requires the wisdom to find the proper path, the courage to face all obstacles, and the magic to blast those obstacles to rubble."
* "Keep your enemies close, but your friends closer. That way your friends are between you and your enemies."
* "You have to understand, this truce doesn't mean we can't kill goblins. It only means we can't get caught."
* "Great power carries a great cost. But there's no rule that says you have to be the one to pay it."
* "No plan survives the first encounter with your enemy, so why bother to make one?"
* "Hero or coward, they all taste the same with a bit of harkol sauce."

And thus the translation and editing of "Goblin Hero" are done. "Dragons of a Vanished Moon" next.

You know, I read only one kind of RPS stories and that's CWRPS and J2 in particular. But! As much as I adore Jared and Jensen together, the idea of Jensen and Tom Welling being naughty makes me literally drool. They are both so gorgeous and they also get along so well... Oh my *flails*

Sexuality

So, the whole Danneel photo shoot... Some people - and I'm not talking about anyone in particular, just about the feel I got from the comments in various places her pictures were posted to - obviously think that it's discriminating to not like the pictures, to consider them over-the top. People even think that some women don't like her photos because they are jealous of her being Jensen's girlfriend.

I can only speak for myself but I don't give a rat's butt that she's Jensen Ackles' girlfriend or that she's a woman. For me, it's all about how I view sexuality in general and what I consider sexy, hot and whatever. I love people, men and women, being sexy. I hate them being sex objects that serve as masturbation fantasies to pimpled teenagers. I know that what I consider sexy, other people would call lame or prude or whatever. But I don't need the person in the pics to give me lewd, lascivious stare - I'm not saying that Danneel's pics are anything like that, I'm just talking about my opinion on what's sexy - to consider them hot. Example?

HOT! )

~*~

Not bad but... )

~*~

HOT! )

~*~

Not bad but... )

All the pics can be considered sexy, I freely admit that, but for me, less skin and more subtlety is sometimes more. It's not about the gender of the person in the pic. It's all about how it affects me...

That's how I view sexuality. My friends will definitely have a different opinion which is just fine with me. If people weren't interested in such photos, they wouldn't be taken after all.
