A: How did you and Pana approach preparing for your more intimate scenes together?

Dan Feuerriegel: We’d had a few chats now and then saying we’d do this or that, or we might hold hands, but that was generally in the beginning. As time went on we became quite familiar with each other and we didn’t really need to have any conversations or prepare, really, we just did whatever in the scenes. We felt comfortable enough that we could touch each other or randomly put in a kiss without anyone freaking out. That’s what was great about working with Pana.

This is really, really lovely. And I needed to post that GIF again. It's so cute!

... regarding Spartacus: War of the Damned. I decided to watch the Agron/Nasir scenes only. I just can't handle all the killing. I mean, I could take it during the first 2 seasons plus the prequel because I knew that the main characters were not about to die. But now that the show is headed towards its finale, people I care about are going to start dying. And I hate that. Also, the revolt is in its last stretch and the liberators are turning into monsters, people are realizing that the freed slaves aren't at all better than the Romans and it's all about the killing, it's one big massacre, it's not about freedom anymore - and no, that's not a spoiler, that's history. And I'm just not sturdy enough to watch it.

I know that Agron and Nasir will die too but at least they are still beautiful. Nasir is still Agron's moral center. They're actually the most normal, loving relationship in the show - and that's fantastic, not something you usually see on TV or anywhere else, for a gay couple to be the loving center of a show. And yes, their death will break my heart into itty bitty pieces - I think Nasir will be killed and Agron will simply lose it! - but till then... their sheer love for each other makes me feel all mushy.

So, yeah. Agron and Nasir only for me. I simply can't handle the rest.

... Never change :P

Q: I can't wait for Spartacus to return for my weekly dose of blood and bodies! Any scoop on what this version of Julius Caesar will be like? -- Kyle

A: This is not your mama's Caesar! The series introduces us to him before he became a great statesman and general. Looking like a young Brad Pitt -- shaggy, buff, charismatic and a little bit crazy -- Caesar (newcomer Todd Lasance) will reveal that he's somewhat impetuous, has a keen mind but also (surprise!) has a bloody shocking sexual kink.

LOL! Like, LOL! Steven DeKnight knows no shame when it comes to his characters - and it's GOOD so! You rock, Mr. Exec!

Thank you so much for the link, [livejournal.com profile] castalie! Gosh, I can't wait to see Agron and Nasir again. I mean, I pretty much made my peace with the fact that they will die a horrible and tragic death and that I will cry my eyes out - but they are so incredibly beautiful. And I adore that in Spartacus, their relationship is so normal, no one's judging them - and I also adore that the actors are so incredibly open-minded about it, no "Icky, gay cooties!" attitudes.

Larger pic here.

Dan Feuerriegel and Pana Hema Taylor look so, so good, don't they? I mean, Agron and Nasir are THE reason why I watch the show and even though I'm sure they will die a gruesome death in the upcoming season, S2 was pure bliss where their ship was concerned, pure, unadulterated bliss!

Yummy! Dan Feuerriegel aka Agron in Spartacus *drools*

If picked up by Starz - so far, it's considered "in development" - the show will be exec'ed by Spartacus' Steven S. DeKnight which is why I'm using my Agron/Nasir icon! Link

Spartacus creator Steven S. DeKnight is working on Incursion, a sci-fi action thriller about soldiers engaged in war with an alien race. The hook: Each season will take place on a new planet as the good guys push farther and farther onto the extraterrestrials’ turf. The project, which promises harsh combat scenes and complex male and female characters set against an intergalactic backdrop, is part of DeKnight’s overall deal with the cable channel.

This could be really, really good. He promised us VERY alien aliens, not just human like creatures. It would mean the return of space opera. And hopefully, more wonderful gay couples on our TV since it's DeKnight! *crosses fingers* But mostly - YAY FOR A SPACE BASED SHOW!

So, Starz canceled Spartacus. Its next season, Spartacus: War of the Damned will be its last: link.

*sigh* Well, that's just great, really! Steven DeKnight wanted to do 5 to 7 seasons, instead they can them once they start filming and the scripts are at least halfway done already. And after all the hoopla with Kirk Douglas last week.

I'm really disappointed. First they cut the show from 13 eps to 10 and now they canned it completely. Why? Just... WHY? It's not like Starz has some other hit on their hands, it's the only show that's even keeping them on the radar, drawing 0.7 demo week after week! Every other series they air is below 0.5...

Bummer! :(

ETA: And according to this article - link - this was DeKnight's own decision? Now I just don't understand the world... *hands*

Day 16: Favorite villain pairing

Lucrezia and Batiatus, Spartacus

I don't ship villains. Hero/hero or villain/hero, sure. But not villain/villain. Most of them simply aren't interesting enough. They are bad and they are there to make the hero(es) miserable and that's it. So, I chose a couple that had at least some redeeming qualities - they actually loved each other, no matter with whom they slept. Sure, Lucrezia had feelings for Crixus but Batiatus was her endgame. He was the one with whom she decided to die. I hated them so much - but I admired what they had together.

Day 14: Couple you liked even though you knew it would end up badly

Agron & Nasir, Spartacus: Vengeance

Yeah, they still do exist, as a couple, I mean. They're still alive - which is a major achievement in Spartacus - but there's no doubt that they WILL die, it's Spartacus after all, they will all kick the bucket in the end. But that doesn't change the fact that they are gorgeous together. Sweet and lovely and amazing... *happy sigh*

This BTS gif makes me smile! (Found on Tumblr.)

You know, for a show that's all about sex and killing, the cast and crew are all giant kids! I just love how bouncy and giggly and exuberant they all are, even the "bad guys", they get along so well :)
katikat: (S_Spartacus)
Yeesh, that was BLOODY! )

I'm done with S1. In the end, I fell in love with Andy Whitfield's Spartacus. Liam McIntyre is different - well, of course he is - but definitely not worse. Watching this show, I felt strangely nostalgic, knowing that Andy was dead. It's incredibly sad...

And now I'm looking forward to Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and the introduction of Gannicus. And then Spartacus: Vengeance and the lovely Nasir! I can't believe I fell in love with this show - but here you have it :)
katikat: (S_Spartacus)
I'm so used to seeing Liam McIntyre as Spartacus that it took me a bit to get used to Andy Whitfield. In the first episode, he looked a bit like Jesus, to be honest, with the long hair and the beard :P

Also, I love this: 'Spartacus' Creator Defends the Show's Sex Addiction -- Both Straight and Gay, an interview with Steven DeKnight from January...

As for the homosexual scenes in the show, [DeKnight] dismisses those critics, too. When people ask him to tone this content down he flat out refuses to do it.

"As far as I'm concerned, it's barely in there to start with. And it was part and parcel of this world and it's part and parcel of our world now. If people want to stop watching the show because two guys kiss, well, I shrug my shoulders. You know, that that will always be in there," said DeKnight.

How I wish there were more producers like DeKnight!
