Cinema: The Martian
Oct. 3rd, 2015 03:29 pmI went to see this movie even though I've been rather cross with Matt Damon lately - yes, I still think he's an ass! - but it was sci-fi! It had Sebastian Stan! So, off I went.
And I'm glad I did. It was a surprisingly funny movie, considering the subject. No dreary, dark, gritty drama. It was sweet and uplifting and most surprising of all, was that there were NO bad guys, no hidden agendas. Everyone genuinely wanted to help. The crew genuinely liked Mark and wanted to bring him home. And I loved that.
Also, as much as I love big ka-boom films, I also love the smart ones, where the characters have to THINK their way out of a problem, not just punch or blow crap up. So this movie? Was right up my alley. Everybody was so frickin' intelligent that I could feel my IQ climbing just by watching the film!
I would rate it 9/10. Not as tense as Gravity, but much funnier and feel-good!
