SLASH --> McShep AU: "Hindsight" by Pru. Summary: Rodney is a brilliant scientist at Cheyenne Mountain and John is an FBI agent. Words: 20.000+sequels.

I love, love, LOVE this fic and I can't believe that nobody turned into a podfic yet *pouts* I love how Rodney tears into John's life and John, despite being straight, is too bemused and overwhelmed to resist steamroller!Rodney. But at the same time, Rodney is so kind and concerned about John and his health and working endless hours. It's just endearing \o/

Something that made me totally crack up!

GEN/SLASH/HET --> "Able to Zoo" by punk. Summary: Twenty-six stories about five or six people. Words: 2.700+.

Basically 26 drabbles ranging from funny to sad but there were some hilarious quotes!
- Rodney jingled angrily up the tower stairs.
- Rodney's cat was sitting in the tub beneath the leaking faucet. It glared at him, the top of its head all wet and spiky.
- "We will get lights on without him and he will sulk and call us funny names."
- "Oh yes," spat Rodney, "those wacky Ancients and their rainbow parties. Does it shoot out unicorns and cotton candy too?"

Go and read it, there's something for everyone!

This SGA fic is simply beautiful!

SLASH --> AU, MCSHEP: "Fly Wishes To The Sky" by cathalin. John Sheppard owns a kite shop on the Oregon coast. He's had enough drama in his life, and has created a safe, if limited, life for himself. One day, Rodney McKay, a college professor in town for a conference, comes looking for a last-minute purchase before he has to leave town, and things start to change for both of them. Words: 20.000+

It's really something! I usually skip sex scenes to return back to the plot as quickly as possible but in this fic... They are beautiful, heart-warming and just... stunning, really. I'm so giddy about this fic like you wouldn't believe!

I read an SGA/SG-1 AU slash/het xover by Auburn, called "Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves". It's the first part of her "AU epic of doom" as she calls it and it's awesome. It's a what-if scenario. What if Rodney had become the unwilling host of Jolinar? What if Vala had been Qetesh's host for several decades? What if John - under the name of Jehan - had been Ba'al's lo'taur? And what if all three became space pirates and stole the Prometheus that was headed towards Atlantis to aid it in its need? It's amazing, truly amazing! And I can't wait for the next part \o/

I went to bed at 2am last night because I was re-reading the SGA slash epic "In the City of Seven Walls" by Auburn. And by epic, I mean epic, as in 170.000+ words. This must be one of the best and most painful fanfics that I've ever read. Summary? Gilded cages are still cages. Sheppard and McKay turn to each other to survive a life in slavery and afterward.

The subject is quite painful but I love the way Auburn portrayed John and Rodney in this fic, how they started all defiant and determined to escape and how two years in slavery broke them down until nothing of their previous personalities remained and returning to their previous lives in Atlantis proved to be impossible. It's simply stunning.

... that I ever thought that Stargate: Atlantis was boring. I mean, John and Rodney and Teyla and Ronon (sorry, never liked Ford), they are just... I mean, honestly! They are... I want to squish them silly.

Song vids like blimvisible's My Brilliant Idea or JulesVids' Men of Devotion or Sheppynette's John Sheppard's ATA Gene make me simply bounce off the walls!

Then there are the awesome fics! Like Dasha's "Salt of the Earth", a fic in which Rodney falls in love with John but John is straight, though he considers his friendship with Rodney more intimate and important than any love ship he could ever have and it's... squee inducing, it really is!

And I'm now reading Sonny Whitelaw and Elizabeth Christensen's "The Chosen", an SGA tie-in novel set after The Storm in S1 - and reading this book I realized that I was really missing the "female touch" in the latest books. I don't know why but the male writers are all about technical babble and OOC behavior and it irks! I think that the female authors pay much more attention to the characters themselves and they try to keep them as true to their TV-selves as possible. The male writers don't really bother and it's a shame :(

SGA related post!

Last night, I read a wonderful SGA gen fic:
GEN --> "Ghost in the Machine" by Sholio. Sheppard and McKay are trapped on a world with a malfunctioning Stargate, a monster... and a mystery. Words: 40.000+

And thanks to [livejournal.com profile] yami_tai, I will get my hands on Sonny Whitelaw's "Exogenesis", an SGA tie-in novel, one of the two that I was missing. So now, I just need to find a way to get James Swallow's "Halcyon" and I'll have all the SGA books that have been published so far \o/

The extras for SGA's S5 DVDs have been revealed: see under the cut... )

But no audio commentaries for Ghost In the Machine, The Shrine, Infection and Identity. No commentary for The Shrine? Really? That pisses me off! It's like with Midway last season, no commentary for one of the best eps of the whole series X( Well, at least we will get one for The Prodigal which must be one of my favorite episodes - maybe even my most favorite one - of the whole series. And with Andy Mikita too! I hope that he will dish out some stuff about Joe Flanigan again XD

DVD Episodes and Special Features, complete version under the cut )

And an interview with Joe Flanigan. I love these parts best... )

Oh, and the title of the SGA movie was revealed: Stargate: Extinction! Sounds awesome. I just hope that it'll be a team-driven movie, not yet another relation of their dating habits!

It's so good to talk about SGA again! *bounces*

SLASH --> McShep: "Post-Nuptial" by rageprufrock. John and Rodney have to pretend that Rodney is pregnant. Simply hilarious! Words: 10.000+.

My favorite line? "Oh, well," Rodney said, rolling his eyes. "Then I guess I’m so lucky you managed to fix me with your magical cock."

*rotflmao*
katikat: (Default)
SLASH --> McShep: "Waiting For My Real Life To Begin" by toomuchplor. Rodney is dating Keller. But he is 40 and she's not even 30 yet. It's hard for him to keep up with her which leads to a break-up and more. I liked that in this fic, Jennifer was not bashed, she and Rodney just faced the fact that they were in different places in their lives. Words: 20.000+.

SLASH --> McShep: "Until Love Can Find Me" by isagel. When you don't die in the desert, life goes on. Set in the Vegas!AU. What if John didn't die in the desert? What if he moved to New Orleans? What if he kept leaving messages about his life in Dr. McKay's voice mail? Words: 10.000+.

Last night, I spent hours reading SGA mpreg fics and there were two that I especially loved:

HET --> Meredith/Sheppard: "Darling Boy" by [livejournal.com profile] tzzzz. Yes, Meredith McKay is a woman (no gender-bending Ancient machines, she's been a woman her whole life), but it's still John who ends up knocked up! Words: 6.700. It's so touching and sweet and the only fic with this premise that I ever read.

SLASH --> McKay/Sheppard: "Taking the Long Way Home" by [livejournal.com profile] sardonicsmiley. In this fic, McKay meets many Johns from various alternate universes and one of them is pregnant with his child - cue in a freaked-out!Rodney XD Words: 10.000+. I really love this fic and all the Johns, they are quite fascinating!

Podfic rec!

SGA: McShep --> "The Dark Side" - author: astolat, reader: general_jinjur. Rodney is a Jedi, yes, a very unusual, acerbic, sarcastic, rude Jedi, but Jedi nonetheless. Sheppard, on the other hand, is a Sith Lord. And those two bond over Sheppard's broken ship, the Atlantis. This is like so cool! \o/
katikat: (Default)
GEN --> "-.-. --- -. -. . -.-. - .. --- -." by Mad Maudlin. An accident offworld leaves Rodney feeling disconnected from the world around him. Luckily John and his friends are there. I loved how John made fun of Rodney even through Morse code! XD Words: 5.000+
katikat: (Default)
SLASH, MCSHEP, AU --> "Without Love" by lamardeuse. Rodney is a scientist that needs a place to stay. And so he rents John's ranch. Words: 20.000+.

And as you know, I'm very Anti-McKeller - the pairing just doesn't make any sense to me - and so I love this "Anti-McKeller" smiley that I found on GateWorld:

I don't know who created it but it's made totally of awesome! \o/
katikat: (Default)
SLASH, MCSHEP, AU --> "Romance at the Roadkill Grill" by lamardeuse. Rodney is a famous cook, John is a fisherman. Yes! \o/ Words: 20.000+.

And you know, this made me crave gay romance again. I mean, don't get me wrong, the SG-1 tie-in novel that I'm reading right now is just rocking awesome, but that fic was so cute and all AU that I really feel like reading about some gay loving once again \o/
katikat: (Default)
SLASH, MCSHEP --> "Two Men and a Baby" by tx_tart and lamardeuse. Rodney is cloned. John falls in love the baby and convinces Rodney to keep the boy. Words: 10.000+.

And at the moment, I'm reading "Sacrifice Moon" by Julie Fortune, an SG-1 tie-in novel. So far, I really like the characterization :)

I need to rec you an amazing podfic read by [livejournal.com profile] issaro!

Text: SLASH, MCSHEP --> "And All We Have" by [livejournal.com profile] seekergeek. Earth is gone, lost to the Ori and Atlantis has to take a hard look at how to survive now that they're on their own. Words: ~50.000!

Audio: here!

I love this fic. Teyla plays a pivotal role in helping the Atlantis expedition deal with the fact that they are the last Earthlings alive, helping them adapt to the customs of Pegasus Galaxy - through menats, group marriages. Fics that portray Teyla as a wise and strong leader are very rare.

I also adore Issaro's podversion - I love all her podfics! \o/ - and I can highly recommend this story to you, in any form! :)

You know, John's life, his situation in Vegas reminded me of this fic...

MCSHEP, AU, GENDERSWAP --> "With Bones Like That" by [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski. John lives a lonely life when Dr. Rodney McKay, his friend from Berkeley, calls him out of the blue. Words: 8.000+
katikat: (Default)
I love reading SGA AU fics with the McShep pairing - this fandom has a huge amount of great fics, that it does. And one of my favorite 'verses is [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon's "Farm in Iowa" series. It's so good and cuddly and long and I have so much glee for this fic! I especially love the part called "Near the Earth, to Touch" in which John has a car accident and Rodney is snappy with worry and Finn throws a temper tantrum... So, so good! \o/
katikat: (Default)
I love [livejournal.com profile] setissma's SGA fic "Wide Open Ocean" which is AU where John and Rodney work at an aquarium. It's a beautiful fic and very sad at the same time too because John and Rodney are so desperately lonely on their own, before they get together.

I was so happy to find out that [livejournal.com profile] winkingstar turned it into a podfic. There is a low hum in the podfic, probably caused by turning up the volume on the original recording but winkingstar has a beautiful voice and except for the hum, the podversion is clear and very nice to listen to :)
