I went to bed at 2am last night because I was re-reading the SGA slash epic "In the City of Seven Walls" by Auburn. And by epic, I mean epic, as in 170.000+ words. This must be one of the best and most painful fanfics that I've ever read. Summary? Gilded cages are still cages. Sheppard and McKay turn to each other to survive a life in slavery and afterward.

The subject is quite painful but I love the way Auburn portrayed John and Rodney in this fic, how they started all defiant and determined to escape and how two years in slavery broke them down until nothing of their previous personalities remained and returning to their previous lives in Atlantis proved to be impossible. It's simply stunning.

I've read this, and I agree. An agonizingly quiet and polite Rodney, and HorrificallyInnocentButSoTotallyNot John were just...wrenching to read.

I really like it when the author takes the characters out of their comfort zone - in such cases, I can easily accept an OOC behavior. And Auburn is one of the best!

Did you listen to it in a podfic form? General_jinjur, the reader, reads it in such an awesome way...
