And if you want to gorge yourself on spoilers, you can find them here: link. I wanted to know two things: The fate of John Harrison and Bones' screen-time. You know, everything I've read so far makes me want to see the movie nownowNOW! And I still have a month to go! A MONTH! Ah, the despair...

So, everybody and their uncle is praising Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal of John Harrison in Star Trek Into Darkness. Like, reviewers are literally swooning, calling his casting an "inspiring choice" etc. So, it was only logical that Damon Lindelof was asked if Benedict would/could be back in the next movie. And this was his answer:

“To answer that question would be to determine whether or not he actually survives this movie, but if he survives this movie, I think that we would be incredibly stupid to not use him again.”

Source

Interesting, isn't it? I have no idea what happens to his character, if he survives or not. I tried to stay as unspoiled as possible while still surfing the net. But I won't lie, I would love to see Benedict in another Star Trek movie. From the trailers alone, his presence is mind-blowing *_*

So, early reviews written by people who have already seen Star Trek Into Darkness reveal who Benedict Cumberbatch is playing, who John Harrison actually IS: I LOVE IT! And I don't give a flying monkey what other people think! )

OMG, have you see these? Especially Benedict Cumberbatch's pic looks AMAZING!

Kirk and Spock cut! )

Wow! Just... wow! I predict that Benedict will own the movie. His presence is like... *hands* Just fantastic. And he looks so mysterious and dangerous in the pic *dolphin noises*

Neverwhere

All episodes of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere are now available here: link.

The cast was amazing! Especially Natalie Dormer surprised me, she has such a wonderful voice!

The story itself though, I found it quite... boring? Dragged out? Tedious? It reminded me a lot of Simon R. Green's "Nightside" but "Nightside" is way more interesting. I guess, Neil Gaiman just isn't a writer for me? I like his ideas, the execution less so?

The six-part series begins with an hour-long episode on Saturday 16 March on Radio 4 and continues with five 30-minute installments on Radio 4 Extra from Monday 18 March.

Season 4 of BBC4 Radio's Cabin Pressure sitcom starts on Jan. 9 2013: source! Cannot wait! It's just too bad that it's the last one. Oh well, everything has to end one day, huh?

... and reveals some previously unknown tidbits about Benedict Cumberbatch's character:

"So this movie doesn’t require you have seen the first movie," says Abrams. "The characters are a group of people who have recently come together and find themselves up against this incredibly terrifying force. Vague spoilers! )

"I love movies that are big and unabashedly a huge fan of big pop mass appeal movies. I do love that. I love being in a theater packed with people and everyone gasping at the same time and having that communal experience. I don’t like going to the movies to feel bad. I don’t like going to the movies to feel depressed and feel diminished. The reason you go to the movies is to feel bigger and stronger and happier. So this is a movie that they certainly go ‘Into Darkness,’ but I would be the wrong director if it was about characters staying there. This is very much a movie about hope, about love, about romance, and about facing something that is truly terrifying and finding a way through the connection of your family and surviving and being stronger afterwards."

Source

That sounds really, really, REALLY good, doesn't it? I can't wait to see the movie. I loved the first one and I can't wait to see Enterprise's crew again - but what I find most intriguing is Benedict's character. There are very few actors who can convey such intensity with just a look alone!
katikat: (Actors_BenCumberbatch2)

Oh yes, I love it when someone's patting my favorite actor on the back, praising him!

"One day, [Lost co-creator] Damon Lindelof texted me and said, 'You should check out Sherlock'. And I watched Sherlock, and was completely blown away, there was this absolute undeniable feeling about it," said Abrams, speaking at the IMAX preview screening of the first nine minutes of the Star Trek sequel.

He even suggested that Cumberbatch's auditon for the role of the film's villain had been something of "a formality".

"Certainly it was important to hear the words come out of this actor's mouth, and so we got Benedict the pages and he sent an iPhone-taped audition to us, but it was almost a little bit of a formality," said Abrams.

The director added that casting Cumberbatch had helped up the performance of his colleagues on the blockbuster: "Being on the set with him... I think everyone was bringing their absolute A-game. I think, frankly, in a way, [his] presence sort of elevated everything."

And Abrams believes that fans – already excited by glimpses of Cumberbatch in the first trailer for Into Darkness – have a lot to look forward to: "Time and again, every scene, Benedict brought a surprising, unexpected, grounded, real and often terrifying aspect to the role. So we are incredibly grateful, all of us."

Source

The more I hear about it, about Benedict and his character, the more I want to see the movie. It seems like everybody was enthralled by Benedict's portrayal of his mysterious character and that's so incredibly, incredibly wonderful. LOVE IT!
katikat: (S_Sherlock)

I used this picture for very shallow reasons: I ADORE IT. Man, Benedict looks so, so good in the ST trailers! \o/ Ehm, back to Sherlock, though:

[Benedict] Cumberbatch was asked in an interview with Yahoo UK if [his and Martin Freeman]’s big screen success meant that the need for Sherlock was suddenly an afterthought.

His response? “Absolutely not. I don’t think that’s a possibility because I love it too much. Making [Sherlock] is all about availability. Martin Freeman has the same kind of pressures on him now. It’s a thing of quality not quantity that show – thank God. We started young with it. We started when they meet and we still are young for those roles. There’s no reason why it can’t continue until we get too old.”

Source

Great to hear it from his mouth that he's game. And I think Martin's too, he loves Watson. So, now just to convince Moffat and Gatiss to write more on a more or less regular basis!

This reminds me a bit of Thor: a great warrior with no humility. I wonder what it will cost Kirk to learn it. Gosh, I'm still rooting for Benedict's character, he's just so... handsome and cool and mysterious! And I wonder if he's fighting for his family too, what with his "Is there anything you wouldn't do for your family?"

Great trailer. Though I liked the teaser trailer better. It felt much more... dynamic. But gosh, Benedict! Chris Pine's blue eyes... Mwah!
katikat: (Actors_BenCumberbatch2)
"The whole thing, not just his backstory, but his agenda, his plan, his secret, all that is what, for me at least, makes him such a frightening and cool villain", said the director. "Also, the real villains - when they're not just two-dimensional, angry vengeful types - don't see themselves as the bad guy. They are the good guy and have complete rationale and motivation. So true to form, the character that Benedict plays has an absolute sense of right and wrong, and he's on the right side".

Of the actor himself? "I would say that the character that Benedict plays, he brings such an incredible power to it. His voice alone, I actually as a joke should have had him read the lunch menu".

Source

Lovely! I just adore that everybody and their uncle are praising Benedict's voice work. The full length trailer should be out this Thursday, right? I can't wait. Is it May already? \o/

So, BBC4 is prepping a 6 part radio dramatization of Neil Gaiman's "Neverwhere". Which in itself is awesome, right? But the frickin's CAST! James McAvoy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andrew Scott, Anthony Head, Christopher Lee... Eeeeeeeeep! Gimme! I need this in my life right now!!! *runs around, flapping hands*

Chris Pine had some really nice things to say about Benedict Cumberbatch when he was asked about the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness:

"I’ve been so fortunate, Benedict is an incredible talent. He’s did some work in the new ‘Trek’ that I think will blow people away.

"There’s one scene in it that’s like, you know… in all kinds of heavy science fiction there’s got to be the exposition scene where it’s like, what the hell’s going on? It’s a really, really, really hard scene. Not for me, for Benedict – and watching him handle that and to make something that I think, on paper, could have been a death trap for an actor and to see how he [deals with it]…

"I think, also, I know that he did Frankenstein. I never got a chance to see it, but his sense of body and voice… he has great command of his instrument or whatever the hell you want to call it. He’s formidable as an actor and as a character in the story. He’s formidable. He’s a great actor."

Aww! I really hope this movie's as good as the first one. And I'm so curious as to what character Benedict Cumberbatch is playing.

And talking about Chris Pine, I really hope his upcoming movies will be hits, both The Rise of the Guardians and Jack Ryan. That man really deserves a hit and to stay A-list.

Benedict Cumberbatch is in talks to join Gemma Arterton in the dark comedy Absolutely Anything: link. The movie "follows a teacher who discovers he has magical powers that allow him to wipe out classrooms of badly behaved students and bring people back to life. As he learns how to control these powers, he experiences a series of mishaps." LOL, this could be hilarious, especially since the Monthy Python crew is working on it :P

OMG! It looks like James McAvoy might join Benedict Cumberbatch in the new Julian Assange movie! *crosses both fingers and toes* Deadline.com reported that James was "in deep negotiations" to play Daniel Domscheit-Berg, Assange's right-hand man!

Over the summer we learned that DreamWorks was looking at Jeremy Renner to lead their untitled drama about WikiLeaks and Julian Assange, the founder of the headline-making website which came under fire for exposing secret government information through leaked, classified documents, e-mails, cables and more. However, Sherlock star and Star Trek Into Darkness villain Benedict Cumberbatch has taken the lead role instead. In addition, Variety reports James McAvoy is now in talks to play Assange's former right-hand man Daniel Domscheit-Berg, who wrote one of the books on which the feature film is based.

Domscheit-Berg started working with Assange back in 2007, but ended up leaving the site years later after seeing that Assange failed to uphold any respect for journalistic integrity. It's believed that his departure from WikiLeaks resulted in Assange's release of over 250,000 classified diplomatic cables from the United States. In his book, there's plenty of criticism about Assange's handling of the Afghan War Diaries and more. The film will also take this angle as it portrays Assange first as a noble crusader and then a man becomes "drunk with power as he grows increasingly paranoid and obsessed with winning the war of information."

Source

Please, let it be so! PLEEEEEEAAAAAASE! I want to see James and Benedict in another movie together so much. Personally, I'm not a fan of what Assange's doing, not at all, IMHO, some things need to stay secret for the protection of innocents. But with these two as leads, I would really love to see the movie!

There's a short article in RadioTimes where Benedict Cumberbatch talks about Martin Freeman's casting as Watson and about his performance in The Reichenbach Fall. My favorite bit? When he speaks of the fall:

“I couldn’t see Martin’s face [during filming] obviously,” said Cumberbatch, “he was just a little blob on the pavement, waiting for a bigger blob to land by his feet… [but later] it was really wonderful to see what he’d done on the other end of that phone conversation - I could hear it [at the time] but to see it was really, really, really moving and, him being in shock afterwards, it’s ridiculous but it made me cry.”

Source

Aww... Just, aww! I seriously love these two and the way they play off each other. What an amazing chemistry!

I think that, once I'm done with the Inception podfics - only 1 page to go in amplificathon! - I might start listening to the Sherlock podfics from the beginning again. That would keep me in podfics till Christmas :P

When asked about Benedict Cumberbatch's part, the exec of The Simpsons, Al Jean, said:

Oh my God yes, he’s really funny. He came to a read, and we had a couple of things that he said, “Hey, I could do those. Can I?” [Laughs] This was the first time someone actually just kinda muscled their way into being a guest star. He called us back and he said, “You want me to do anything else?” And we gave him a little more… He’s just this completely irresistible person. You must give him dialogue if you come within 100 yards of him.

Source

LOL! That must have been funny. I just love Benedict, he's so sweet!
