The last episode ever ;_; I can't believe it. And the ending! Though I was happy that everybody rooted for Martin, that was great. But the ending... ;_; Fanfic fodder like whoa!

A funny quote (or two):

Carolyn: Enough! Everyone will wear their own clothes and sit in their own seats. Good God, I work in a kindergarten!

Or

Martin: I’m like a duck... I’m like a capsized duck.

Waaaaaaaaaaah, still can't believe it ended. I mean, we will forever have such gems as Fitton or Limerick and this season Uskerty made me LOL like a nut, still... I just love the show so very, very much, I don't want it to eeeeeeeeeeeend! *wails*

Gosh, that was sweet! One of the basic fanfic tropes: the whole crew had to spend the night aboard the plane. Silliness and FizzBuzzBanana happened!

Also, Martin is still dating Theresa! How fantastically awesome is that? I mean, in fics, I ship Douglas/Martin but in the show itself? I adore Theresa/Martin! Theresa is all kinds of awesome.

Douglas: The captain is a man of immense mechanical aptitude, and it is accordingly his plan to fine-tune the running of the AP unit by finding a hole at the back of the plane, and waggling a stick in it.

Tomorrow is the last ep in the series :( And I'm a bit afraid of it, considering all the hints dropped this season. Herc and Zurich, their financial problems, Martin and Theresa... Please, give me a satisfying ending, PLEASE *crosses fingers*

I LOVED IT! Gosh, the one-syllable game! And then Arthur and Martin's mum! And the whole crew standing up for Martin! LOVED IT!

The best exchange?

Carolyn: There is another solution.
Martin: Yes?
Carolyn: Your mother, from the sound of it, represents the immovable force of someone who needs helping but does not want to be helped.
Martin: Ugh, yes.
Carolyn: Well, we have at our disposal, do we not, the irresistible force of someone who loves helping and doesn't really notice whether people want him or not.

Not as funny as the previous episodes, especially the bit with Carolyn and Herc and the buy-out of Herc's airline - foreshadowing maybe? - but it had the most amazing female character in the show yet: Princess Theresa of Lichtenstein! God, and Martin even got a date out of it! I'm a Douglas/Martin slasher - but that's a thing that will never happen in the show itself and if Martin should date anyone, it should be Theresa! The Princess even killed a "dragon" for him!

Best quote?

Martin: So we can go up but we can't come down.
Douglas: We are Newton's worst nightmare.
katikat: (Actors_BenCumberbatch2)
You can listen to it here: link. And once more, it's hilarious. Though there were surprisingly many tender moments, especially between Carolyn and Martin. I hope it's not a foreshadowing...

Quote!

Carolyn: It would help if you could try to look a little less ... peculiar.
Martin: Oh, I’m sorry, but it’s quite hard to not look peculiar when you’re in uniform, soaked to the skin and carrying a dead sheep.

Oh God, the sheep! Only them... :P

Oh, I completely forgot that ep 401 of Cabin Pressure called Timbuktu aired last week on BBC4 radio! You can listen to it here: link.

Martin: Guys, there's a problem-
Carolyn: Then solve it.
Martin: I can't solve it.
Carolyn: Have you tried to solve it?
Martin: ... n-no?
Carolyn: Then you don't know if you can't solve it, do you?
Martin: There's a civil war in Mali. So Timbuktu is closed to all air traffic!
Carolyn: ... right, so you can't solve it.
Martin: Thank you.
...
Carolyn: Douglas, can you solve it?

LOL! And new episode tonight, Uskerty!

Season 4 of BBC4 Radio's Cabin Pressure sitcom starts on Jan. 9 2013: source! Cannot wait! It's just too bad that it's the last one. Oh well, everything has to end one day, huh?
katikat: (actors-benedictcumberbatch)
Benedict Cumberbatch was asked if he would have tea with Martin Crieff, his character in Cabin Pressure. His response:

"Oh God, NO! He'd spill it on himself and then I would have to clean that up for him. Then he would walk into a door and I'd have to phone an ambulance. And he'd end up hijacking the ambulance by accident, thinking it's taxi home. He's a disaster."

LOL! Poor Martin. But he really is a walking disaster ;P Said quote available with GIFs here: link.

Found this one on Tumblr and, peeps, you have to read it. It's HILARIOUS! Also, check out the plane: link.

Kulula is an Airline with head office situated in Johannesburg. Kulula airline attendants make an effort to make the in-flight “safety lecture” and announcements a bit more entertaining. Here are some real examples that have been heard or reported:

LOLOLOL! )

My favorite? “We ask you to please remain seated as Captain Kangaroo bounces us to the terminal.” *rotf* Exactly what I needed on Monday morning!

... Cabin Pressure! It turned into quite an obsession in my case. I moved 4 of my favorite episodes to my MP3 player - Fitton, Ipswich, Limerick, St. Petersburg - and listened to them on my way to friends who I had lunch with today. Man, I must've looked like a loon, grinning stupidly!

BTS pic from the recording!

I mean, how can you keep a straight face when you listen to stuff like...

Dr Duncan: So, do you want to roleplay that through now, Douglas?
Douglas: I would love to. "Hey, chief, I might be wrong, but I think we're flying into a mountain. This makes me feel... scared of the mountain. One thing we could do is pull up and fly over the mountain. How does that sound to - pwoooochhh?"

Or...

Martin: Must you sit at the back, Douglas?
Douglas: I always sit at the back.
Martin: But there's only two of us in a lecture theatre with 500 seats.

Or...

Carolyn: Peter, it has long been a maxim of MJN Air that when Arthur stops helping, we can do anything.

It's wonderful! So, so wonderful. I'm smitten with it like whoa. I have 3 CP fics opened in my tabs! This show's exactly what you need when you feel down!

Aaaaaaaaand I'm done with Cabin Pressure. Listened to Paris, Qikiqtarjuaq, Rotterdam and St. Petersburg.

I think that the last one, St. Petersburg, is my favorite episode, maybe of the whole series. It's the one where their engine explodes and Martin lands the plane and they realize that Martin actually IS a good pilot. And Martin and Douglas are great in this, they complement each other so well in the cockpit, in all seriousness. And it's kinda awesome. And the way they all work together, like a family, sticking it to Carolyn's ex-husband... Wonderful.

The most hilarious quote?

Douglas: Well on the walk round, though brief, I did notice one small problem with the otherwise entirely airworthy plane.
Martin: Yes?
Douglas: It has an Arthur stuck to the side of it.

Or...

Arthur: Here you are, Skip – nice hot cup of coffee.
Martin: Oh, it’s cold.
Arthur: Nice cup of coffee.
Martin: It’s horrible!
Arthur: Cup of coffee.
Martin: I’m not even sure it is coffee.
Arthur: Cup.

You know what else was awesome? In the episode Qikiqtarjuaq, when Martin finally broke down and told Carolyn just how bad his financial situation was - and she realized that, even though they loved to tease Martin, this wasn't really funny.

My heart broke a little when he asked to be actually paid...

So I live in a horrible attic in a shared house where I'm the only grown-up - all the other five are students at the agricultural college. I've been there nine years now - that's three generations of students! They pass me on to the next lot like a sort of friendly ghost - "Oh, are you living in Parkside Terrace next year? Well, listen, there's a pilot in the attic, but don't worry, he never bothers anyone." I can't afford to go out, to buy nice food - I live on toast and pasta - sometimes, for a treat, I have a baked potato! So just... so you know, I'm not asking because I'm greedy.

I loved how she went all quiet after that. So, yeah, no wonder there are so many angsty!Martin fics out there. He actually IS a pretty angsty character.

So, does anybody know when the next series will air and if Benedict Cumberbatch will be in it? What with him being so busy with his movie/TV career... Without him, it wouldn't be the same.
katikat: (actors-benedictcumberbatch)
Listened to Molokai, Newcastle and Ottery St. Mary.

Benedict Cumberbatch wasn't voicing Martin in Newcastle because he was seriously sick at the time of the recording and he lost his voice, the poor thing. And... It wasn't the same. The show wasn't the same. It didn't do it for me. At all. Without him, I mean. Something vital was missing. Not that the guy who replaced him was bad, mind you, he just wasn't Benedict Cumberbatch, you know? Benedict has such a beautiful voice... *_*
katikat: (actors-benedictcumberbatch)
Listened to Ipswich, Johannesburg, Kuala Lumpur and Limerick.

The funniest episode was definitely Ipswich, the one with the "Safety and Emergency Procedures". It was hilarious!

Mr. Sargent: For starters, how many bodies did you rescue from the fuselage?
Carolyn: Two!
Mr. Sargent: Two. Which is pretty good going, given that I only put one in there.

That one was absolutely fabulous. The crew borked everything they could! LOL!

And then there was Limerick. Quite funny too, but mostly very touching. I loved it when Martin and Douglas simply talked. About why Martin wasn't dating. About Douglas' wife's infidelity. That was quite lovely. Yeah, Martin is prissy and Douglas can be very spiteful, but then there are moments like these and you feel they genuinely care.

My favorite moment, though, was:

Martin: Yeah, but… even if I did meet someone, where would I take them?

Not HER. THEM. Gender unspecified. It's a detail but a lovely one. Martin doesn't care if it's a girl or a guy, he just wants to meet someone who would want him.
katikat: (actors-benedictcumberbatch)
Listened to Edinburgh, Fitton, Gdansk and Helsinki. Loved Fitton best so far, I think, it's the ep with the rain and them waiting for their client and just talking about their lives. I love stuff like that.

But, you know, as funny as this show is, it's actually also rather sad. The characters are prissy (Martin) and spiteful (Douglas) and angry (Carolyn) and stupid (Arthur) but they are not bad people - yet they are all what some might call "losers". All of them failed terribly at something and they are not really happy with their lives, as the episode Fitton proved.

I feel especially sorry for Martin whose dream it's always been to be a pilot. He sacrificed everything to become one - yet he gets it thrown in his face time and time again. No wonder there are so many fics where Martin is depressed or sad or even borderline suicidal. It actually makes sense in the context of the show.

That's why the scenes where they are all really friendly with each other, where they talk and laugh together, feel so precious. Yeah, yeah, I'm over-thinking it, I guess, but that's how it feels to me...

But to not end this entry on a gloomy note, I loved this message Carolyn left for her ex:

Ah, thank you for ringing back. Yes, I have a message for Mr Shappey, from the CEO of MJN Air: "Gertie's staying with me, so up yours, baldie." Yes, it is a business message. It's in code, you see. He'll know what it means. And that's from Carolyn Knapp-Shappey, CEO of My Jet Now Air. Thank you so much.

Good for you, Carolyn! *applauds*
katikat: (actors-benedictcumberbatch)
Listened to Abu Dhabi, Boston, Cremona and Douz - and LOL'd myself silly. What an awesome comedy!

Bits and pieces like...

Carolyn: All right, biggles, you divert if something goes very, very seriously wrong, and I'm talking, "Oh, dear, surely we had two wings when we started wrong."

Or

Martin: But why? Why? I mean, why? Why?
Douglas: Four excellent questions.

Or

Douglas: Do you want me to drive for a bit, darling?
Martin: No thanks, dear. You know I get carsick in the passenger seat.

Benedict Cumberbatch is fantastic as Martin! And I just adore the banter between Martin and Douglas. Like when they played Simon Says.

You know, in Sherlock, I like the character of John Watson better than Sherlock's, he's more approachable and I've always had a soft spot for the much abused, long suffering Doctor Watson. But when it comes to actors, I'm much more interested in Benedict Cumberbatch's work. Strange...

Off to read Cabin Pressure fics!
