Hey, that was the guy who plays Lucifer on SPN. Eh, I still don't get what people see in him. I don't find him attractive at all *shrugs*
I love that we slowly learn more about Cho and Rigsby through their banter. Cho still rules in my book! But Rigsby was awesome in this one too. I loved the scene where he and Cho stood up against the gang!
I loved the revenge Jane took on the woman's behalf, how he convinced the biker gang that their boss was a snitch. That was pretty cool!
You know, I've been thinking of why I feel no desire to watch SGU. I mean, the inept TPTB turned SGA into a carbon copy of SG-1 later on, replicators and Asgards included, and I still loved the show to pieces, even more than SG-1. So it can't be just the fact that SGU is BSG with a gate slapped on it. But I think, I think it's... brand fatigue for me.
For fourteen years they've been churning out gate stories now, the same producers, the same writers - and I loved SG-1 and I loved SGA (even though I still can't forgive the writers for the 2nd half of S5!). But SGU is just... too much. If they continued SGA I would have gobbled it with a spoon but SGU? It's like getting a third variation of flavor of your favorite cookie - and it just doesn't taste right anymore, especially when everybody's telling you that there must be something wrong with you if you prefer the old flavor...
SGU doesn't feel like a new series, more like a remake of an old one that wasn't hip anymore. You see, I loved the old BSG that was about adventure and friendship and family. The new BSG, though critically acclaimed felt... wrong with its darkness and despair. And SGU gives me the same feeling.
Of course, the fact that I don't like any of the characters or the actors is a big part of it, too.

Date: 2009-10-17 09:04 am (UTC)I've watched the first three eps of SGU and I agree, it needs cylons, or at least wants them. One of the major strengths of the new BSG was that sense that no one could be trusted, anyone could be and often was a cylon, and that cylon might do nothing, even if it wasn't a sleeper agent,
but that completely contradicts the concept of SGU they need rush, but he's no mckay (mckay would have them home by now, or is it me?) whilst shepard did his best to break the thing's speed limit.
characters always were the strength of SG, and I can't bond with any of the characters.... sad aint it

Date: 2009-10-17 09:16 am (UTC)I loved the original - I watched it on RTL, every Sunday morning. I loved the deep friendship between Apollo and Starbuck, Apollo's father and sister Athena, his adopted son. It was all about adventure and sticking together and being there for each other. I hate series where people can't trust each other because everybody has their personal agenda and they secretly hate each other.
What I loved about SGA was the fact that thanks to his friendship with Sheppard, McKay turned out to be an immensely likable character. Here he was with his sarcasm and his uppity attitude - and it all just flowed over Sheppard and he dished back what McKay threw at him and it boggled McKay's mind. I just... loved the characters and even the weakest episodes I watched at least for the characters, even if the story was lame. SGU though...

Date: 2009-10-17 09:51 am (UTC)BSG was a drama passing itself off as sci fi
sci fi is often dramatic but....
the thing is a lot of the characters in sga i could leave in the pegasus galaxy without a thought, bai bai keller... that hologramatic dr from vger, he can go too
but i knew the characters well enough to dislike them on their own merits whether that was the writers desperately trying to make mcshep less married (they didn't manage that with a wraith army) by having a woman turn down Ronon for mckay (in the long term maybe, you'd dump ronon for mckay but would you miss out on that?)
I loved Andromeda too which was all back stabbity, and fell apart when it wasn't
but we are being a bit mean, there are a lot of characters in sgu and we haven't met them, we don't know why they all hate rush (perhaps envious of his robert carlyle acting ability) because they hated him BEFORE they landed on the ship, it might be given a few more eps it finds its feet, but it is in the shadow of atlantis and we are judging it in comparison and not by itself
i mean look at ncis gay - referred to here as nicks not gibbs (as comparable to nicks gibbs to keep them seperate) they're completely different, can you imagine gibbs using some of that tech, it would be in the bay and he'd be missing presumed gibbs.

The jury's still out on whether I like the show or not but I'm intrigued enough to give it another week.
We'll see.
