Castiel & Dean, Supernatural
Their relationship has fascinated me from the beginning. At first, Castiel tried to demand respect from Dean, tried to make Dean fear him, but as he got to know Dean better, he became Dean's friend and suddenly, it wasn't about what heaven and all the other angels wanted, it was about what was best for Dean or what Dean thought best. That's quite a change of mind for someone like Castiel. Dean taught him about humanity, about free will - well, what Castiel DID with his free will was... a completely different kettle of fish.
And Dean, who went from not believing in angels at all to not believing he was worth saving - which he wasn't, is the thing, I mean not in the eyes of the angels - to wanting kick every angel's ass. Yet Castiel was different. He was like the angel on Dean's shoulder, his personal guardian, someone to whom Dean opened his heart. And who betrayed him in the most horrible way, by destroying his brother's sanity. And yet. Yet Dean still wanted Cas back. I mean, it's Dean. Once he takes someone in, he can forgive and forgive and forgive...
What I always loved about this relationship, besides how close these two always were, was that I could always follow both sides of the argument and understand each of the guys' action. Nothing felt like it came out of left field, even Castiel's megalomania, even that was understandable. I always loved how their relationship was constructed.
I think it's just too bad that the writers don't have the balls to make these two an actual couple. I mean, SPN is a cult hit - but if they made Dean and Cas a couple, it would become a cult legend. It worked for Willow and Tara, why not for Cas and Dean? The show already has a minuscule following on a tiny network. It's not like that could sink the show, it's in its 8 year after all. But it could make it unforgettable.
Because, yeah, I'm a Cas/Dean shipper - NOT using that ridiculous meshed up term for them! - and I think they would be beautiful together. It would original and unexpected and... happy, for once. Cas' "I did it all for YOU!" was one of the most amazing things I've seen in this show. And if Cpt. Jack Harkness can be other-sexual and still kick major ass and be a cult legend, why couldn't the same thing work for Dean Winchester? Too bad that the writers are too cowardly to even try it...
So, yeah, Cas and Dean. Me with stars in my eyes *_*
