3 stars out of 5
Art: Several artists worked on this collection. Perkins' and Epting's art was top notch, as always. But I didn't really like Pulido's and Martin's art, it was very retro, though I understood why it was used for the flashback. Nonetheless, it felt a bit jarring, the transition between the styles. 4 stars.
Story: The last third of the book was amazing, full of action and great heroes, both male and female, kicking butt. But! The first two thirds? Slow, oh so slow. Too much time and space given to Lukin/Red Skull and Crossbones and Sin, a lot of talk and not enough action. I wanted to see the Cap going after Bucky, an intriguing cat and mouse game, what I got was the Red Skull plotting and cackling madly in the background. He's mad, Lukin is untouchable, we get it, Mr. Brubaker, move on! 2 stars.

What a gripping story. I really love AU stories where Charles and Erik meet in a different way and this one's excellent. And Raven is rockin' awesome too, of course!
You’ve done enough, he says to them. One of them tries to cover his ears, but Charles holds him motionless, in thrall. Stop now, just stop. Stop.
He feels them go out, one and a time, like broken light bulbs, as they struggle to draw breath against a force that they don’t understand. He hears them plead, he feels their fear, and one by one they die.

Holmes; SG-1
Oct. 20th, 2011 05:33 pmI can't stop watching the latest Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows trailer: link. It's fabulous! So much action and humor and Holmes and Watson bickering like old ladies!
(Though, honestly? From what I've seen so far, I find Sherlock's Moriarty much scarier than the one in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Sherlock's Moriarty is really, truly scary because he's a highly unpredictable sociopath. The scene at the pool still gives me the creeps... )
Sabine C. Bauer's SG-1 book "Transitions" will be out next month: link. It's actually a crossover between SG-1 and SGA and I already pre-ordered it. Man, it's been ages since the last SG book has come out...

Sex Pistols
Oct. 20th, 2011 11:53 pmThe two-part anime OVA Sex Pistols is based on the famous manga series "Love Pistols". Why famous? Because it handles a theme I've never seen handled anywhere in manga and/or anime before - mpreg. And it does it with style and humor, introducing a special race, the "madara", people/shapeshifters with animal souls.
So, the OVA. It's a love story, what else ;)

This is Yonekuni, a dragon, who hates men yet he's in love with...

... Fujiwara, a wolf, without knowing it.
I felt so sorry for Fujiwara, because of the way Yonekuni treated him. But the ending was all that sweeter, when Yonekuni finally realized what was going on and went to Fujiwara. Aww...
I also really loved the relationship between the brothers, Yonekuni and Kumimasa, the way Kumimasa always made sure his brother was warm, what with Yonekuni's animal being a cold-blooded reptile. The relationship between Kumimasa and his soul-mate Norio, though?

Pure comic relief!
I just loved how Norio could work himself into a frenzy. And the way he tended to turn into a cat in bed which meant no sex for poor Kumimasa, LOL!
There were also other relationships, like between the bears, and the breeding, how children were made and born in this race, was touched upon. It was creepy, yet so hilariously done!
Man, it's too bad this manga is all sold out. I remember loving the scanlations!
