"River Marked" by Patricia Briggs

3 stars out of 5

Usually, I give Patricia Briggs' books 4 or 5 stars but this one felt too... mythical and mystical, too wordy for me, more like a tourist guide in places than an adventure book.

Reading this, I realized that the reason why I love this series isn't just Mercy Thompson, the main heroine, herself, it's the whole supporting cast, which was sadly missing in this book. Warren, Kyle, Stefan, Ben, Darryl etc., they were there in the first few chapters - and then at the very end. The rest was about Mercy and Adam and new characters that I didn't care about as much as I do about the established once. I loved Coyote, that's true, yet... I would've preferred to read about Stefan and his little problem than about Mercy killing a river monster, to be perfectly honest.

Another thing was that, as much as this series is urban fantasy about werewolves and vampires and whatnot, it always felt anchored in the real world, nothing over the top magical, you know? But this book's plot felt too... out there, especially the monster killing part.

A good book, but not as good as the previous 5.

I found a wonderful article called "User's Guide for the Paralyzed Penis: Sex after spinal cord injury" on National Sexuality Resource Center's web and I think that every author who wants to write a fic about post-XMFC Charles having sex should read at least this - there's nothing more cringe-worthy than when you stumble across someone writing about something they have absolutely no idea of, be it the sex life of people with spinal injury or foreign languages.

Other than that, I still haven't caught up on White Collar and haven't even started watching Covert Affairs, The Glades or Suits yet. I don't know what's wrong with me these days, I feel completely detached from the TV fandom...

I'm thinking of what to read next, book-wise, I mean. I still have to finish Thomas Sniegoski's "A Hundred Words for Hate" but I think I'll read something else first. Hm, maybe Lynn Flewelling's "The Bone Doll's Twin"? Decisions, decisions...

"Superheroes" by Co-Quill-Eon | AU | Gen/pre-slash | Charles and Erik meet in pre-school. | 3.000 words

Whatever, Erik grumbles, but gently pets the skin around the tender parts of Charles' palm. He wants to kiss it better like his Mama used to do for him (and still does, but no one knows that except for Charles) but the angle is off and he can't duck his head that far under the table. Mrs. Lindsey will see and then Charles will get in trouble too.

That's okay, what you're doing, Charles tells him. It feels nice, and Erik can tell it's the truth by the content feeling rolling around in his veins. He knows it isn't his own - he still wants to hurt Azazel.

D'awww! That's the cutest fic I've found in this fandom so far.

LOL!

This is killing me: X-Men: First Class, the My Little Pony version! Link stolen from [livejournal.com profile] astri13. That trailer is so amazing! Charles with Cerebro. Erik... Erik grabbing Charles by the tail, dragging him away to save him from the bad, bad dragon. I have so much love for this crazy fandom!
