Day 4: A character you wish Kolya would kill

Easy: Jennifer Keller. There was no other character that I loathed as much as her on SGA. Seriously, her character - inexperienced, insecure and timid - had no place on Atlantis, an alien outpost in what was basically a war zone. And the way she was written, no consistency at all: in one ep, she was able to kill a Wraith single-handedly, in the next one, she couldn't defend herself at all and just stood there, wringing her hands. But that's not all...

Honestly, I disliked her for two reasons:

a) There was absolutely no reason why the writers had to kill Beckett and replace him with a blond bombshell that serve as nothing more than damsel in distress, there to be rescued by manly heroes. The writers simply wanted Jewel Staite on the show and they sacrificed Beckett for it with some stupid excuse that viewers needed to feel the danger or something like that and that's why he was killed. No, just no. Instead of giving him an interesting story line, they replaced him with a love interest for half of the main team AND the only lesbian on the outpost. Seriously.

b) The McKay/Keller relationship. Setting aside the fact that he was 15 years her senior and they had absolutely nothing in common - he talked about physics or comic book characters, she was all about George Clooney and Brad Pitt (Trio) - all she did was try and change him from the get-go. What DID she like about him when she couldn't but chastise Rodney for who he was on regular basis?

So, yeah. I think that the series started to go downhill when they introduced Doctor Keller. The writers were so in love with Jewel Staite that they stopped using their upstairs brain.

The rest... )

I have had a headache the whole day long. And I'm talking nausea inducing headache. In the end, I just had to pop an Ibuprofen, I just couldn't take it anymore when not even a nap helped. It's so gooooood to be pain free...

And more books, pictures cut! )

The Conscience of the King: That one kept me guessing till the end. I didn't suspect the daughter at all. Man, she was crazier than a sack full of rabid weasels! Also, I really thought that Riley would die. And that's what the story of Tarsus IV was about. I've seen it mentioned in ST:Reboot fics before, but I had no idea what it was about. Oh, and I loved the little chat between Spock and McCoy in the infirmary, when Spock said that he did consider that Kirk might have had a thing for the girl, but he dismissed it. McCoy's "You would" made me LOL!

Balance of Terror: Excellent episode! I love it that there's this balance among Kirk, Spock and McCoy, they all bring different opinions to the table and then try to find a middle ground. I loved the little talks Kirk and McCoy had in this episode, especially the one where McCoy told Kirk he should not destroy himself. Also, that was a great space battle, it didn't even need amazing special effects, the suspense was enough. And another thing: knowing what Romulans looked like, it wasn't a surprise for me, but back then, it must've been a bit of a shock, this resemblance between Romulans and Vulcans...
