You know what? Fuck you and the horse you rode in on, Michael Hirst.

Spoilers! )

Several weeks ago, I would've been actually upset about what happened on Vikings last night. I would've raged and cried bitter tears. These days? All I can think is, "Well, why I'm not surprised?" I'm done with the show and I sure as hell won't be buying it on DVD. Another series down the drain and good riddance.

Seriously, is there something in the water or something? All my shows are fucking up big time this season and I hate, literally hate the direction in which they're headed, all of them. I'm taking more and more of them of my list because how annoyed I am with them as of late. And now Vikings fucked up big time, too. Seriously.

This is a promo for several series that will air on the French Canal+ this year and among them, there's Versailles, starring George Blagden as Louis XIV., that I really want to see. It's about Louis' rise to power, how he invited all his enemies to Versailles and then systematically destroyed them with his devious Machiavellian scheming.

I just hope that they won't kill off Athelstan on Vikings because of this. George Blagden was done filming in June/July already while the others were still filming in August/September... I hope they found a way to work around his schedule. If they killed off Athelstan... ;_; And it was said that one of the beloved characters would bite it this season, I just hope that it's not him. Athelstan's friendship with Ragnar is the reason why I watch the series.

Just... how? George Blagden - Athelstan in Vikings and Grantaire in Les Miserables - got the lead part of Louis XIV in the TV show Versailles!

Series, comprising 10 one-hour episodes, opens in 1667. Louis is 28 years old and the sole commander of his kingdom following his mother’s death. Burdened by insecurity brought on memories of his childhood trauma — a bitter coup attempt known as “the Fronde” — he creates a trap at Versailles to ensnare and disempower the nobles who threaten him.

The first season sees Louis evolve from a young King into an absolute monarch, a 17th century rock star with the mind of Machiavelli.

The show also delves into Louis XIV’s ambivalent relationship with his younger brother, an openly gay warrior who was known as Monsieur, and the king’s affair with his sister-in-law, Henrietta of England.

Man, I'm so happy that George Blagden is going places! \o/

When I first learned of Vikings, History Channel's TV show, I thought that Athelstan was a made up character, someone used to introduce the viewers to the viking culture. Apparently, I was wrong. The creator, Michael Hirst, based Athelstan on a real historical figure.

If you want to know more about said man, about his fate. And also about what's in store for Athelstan in S2. )

Can you talk about the relationship between Ragnar and Athelstan and how that’s going to develop over the season?

Travis Fimmel: That’s one of my favorite relationships too. He’s such a good actor. George, he is fantastic. I am going to throw something at him (picks up the card on the table). Do you need this? (Throws it at George Blagden who is interviewing with other people). But some of my favorite scenes are with him; we really develop into a big relationship…(Something is thrown at Travis by George and Travis picks it up). Grow up George!

Alright! It’s a cork. I threw this at him last night. It’s from last night’s dinner! But I absolutely love their relationship and it really develops. We get into a great friendship and I finally have someone I can really confide in, you know.

Aww... I adore this. It sounds so much like Arthur and Merlin where Merlin ended up being the only one with whom Arthur could talk about anything, from state affairs to Gwen. Lovely. It really feels like a replacement show for Merlin.

Also:

George Blagden: These corks were from wine we had last night, and pulling away from the restaurant in a taxi, Travis threw them both at me. So I decided to keep them to get back at him today. He’s a prankster as well. On set he loved doing pranks.

Can you give any sort of specifics?

George Blagden: Well you know in like episode 3 or 4 where I am tied on a rope. That’s just like candy to a baby for this guy. He would tie me to things on set without me realizing it. I’d find myself being strangled. Everyone liked watching him get the best of me. They really did.

(...)

[laughing at Travis Fimmel’s table and Travis yells “GEORGE!”]

Travis Fimmel: I don’t know the answer to this question; I need you to answer a question about interesting Viking traditions.

George Blagden: Interesting Viking traditions? Oh God, I don’t know. They slaughtered animals. I don’t know, I’m still learning. You’re the one who is supposed to be the Viking.

LOL! Travis really loves to poke fun at poor George, LOL! He seems like such a goof.
