The Short Timer... where Taylor has only a few days left of his tour and he realizes that he has nothing to go home to, that all of his friends, his family, is in Vietnam. Taylor has always been an interesting character but this episode made me fall a little bit in love with him. Because I felt his struggle and I understood his decision to stay, to become a lifer. And honestly, when you know what happens to all the characters who actually make it home at the end of the show instead of enlisting again, you realize that his decision was wise

Paradise Lost... where Myron's unit discovers a Montagnard village and inadvertently causes a tragedy. I loved the moment where Zeke decided to go back and help the people and Myron stopped him and Zeke got all angry because he thought that Myron planned on letting the people rot, when all Myron wanted was to tell him that they would ALL go, even though it went against all their orders.

Angel of Mercy... where Myron's unit captures a VC general, Myron is shot and Baker finds a frog in his pants - no, that's not a euphemism. I really, really, really loved how protective Zeke was of Myron in this episode. The way he was all, "This is my LT and you will take care of him, now!" was truly wonderful. Also, Myron and Nikki's relationship got first major cracks in this ep.

The Hill... where Myron's unit keeps storming the same hill, over and over again, and both he and his men stop understanding why, the point of this futile action. I think this episode illustrated most profoundly the frustration of the men fighting in Nam: winning ground and giving it up again, having their wives and GFs at home abandon them, having the world see them as baby killers and nothing more. Like any of that was actually their fault. Terrible. And also, Nikki breaks up with Myron. Honestly? Good riddance. I mean, they were both lieutenants. What did she expect would happen when she started dating him? That he would sit on his butt behind a desk when there were good men dying in the field? Eh. Never understood her.

And this concludes season 1 of Tour of Duty. Now what?

Soldiers... where Purcell's dad gets a heart attack and Purcell, Ruiz and Taylor go to Honolulu on an R&R. Pretty much a "soldiers go normal" story with all its up and down. I loved the storyline with the Japanese American taxi driver in this ep.

The Gray-Brown Odyssey... where Myron's blinded in an explosion in the bush and Horn, the only surviving member of his team, has to go for help, leaving Myron with a female VC prisoner. The story of Myron and the VC fighter's trek through the bush is really heart-tugging. But I was more interested in Horn and the way he took care of Myron. He was so gentle with Myron, so protective of him, he even threatened to kill the VC if she hurt Myron - and Horn is a devout pacifist! If Horn isn't at least a tiny bit smitten with Myron, I'll eat my hat, I swear!

Blood Brothers... where heroin runs rampant at Firebase Ladybird and Myron's father, General Goldman, arrives for inspection. Gosh, seeing Myron in ep 116, compared to his attitude in 101, is really something. In the first episode, he was all about following orders, not matter what. In 116, he defies a direct order to save his men's lives, even though he knows he will be court-marshaled for it. It's really amazing to watch the platoon now, when they know they can count on their LT 100%. Also, Zeke's LOOK when Myron explains to him why he and his father don't get along, that Myron's mother committed suicide and the general didn't show one ounce of feelings...

USO Down... where a singer and his entourage's chopper is shot down and Myron's unit has to get the civilians to safety. I really like that the female dancers are more calm and collected than the guys in this one. Thanks to that, the girls survive. I love that Zeke apparently knows about Myron's family and he already doesn't like his old man one bit.

Under Siege... where Firebase Ladybird gets a new commander who lands them all in deep shit and it's only thanks to Myron's tactical genius that most of them survive. The scene where the captain gives up and decides the base is lost and Zeke corners Myron, telling him that they can't just roll over and die, and Myron assures him that they are not, is one of the best ever. You can almost see the wheels turning in Myron's head. And the way Zeke literally hangs on his every word! And then Myron comes up with a plan that saves their collective butt and the base, too. And does he get any recognition at all? Of course not, it's the captain who gets a commendation! Jesus on a cracker. If Zeke's look could kill, the captain would keel over right there.

Battling Baker Brothers... where Baker's twin arrives and they are both caught by the VC. The best scene - a hilarious one - is where Zeke and Myron come to their captain to convince him not to list Baker as AWOL for 24 hours, to allow them to search for him. You can see how much the actors enjoyed that scene, a funny break from all the emotional, depressing stuff.

Nowhere to Run... where Percell kills a Vietnamese boy and Zeke and Myron do their damnest to get him out of his funk. Again, there are some really hilarious scenes with Zeke and Myron. The actors play off of each other so well! It also features Nikki, Myron's first love interest on this show. Eh. Never really felt Nikki. It always seems like she isn't in it as much as Myron, in their relationship, I mean. Yeah, they are both in Nam but their experience is so vastly different - she still believes in the system, he doesn't anymore, from personal experience. And you just know it can't end well (spoiler: it doesn't).

Roadrunner... where the unit is sent to rescue a pilot and Zeke freaks out because they're sent to a valley where he lost his whole battalion once. It's really hard to watch this episode, to see Zeke who's always so calm and collected completely freaked out.

Pushin' Too Hard... where their captain gets killed because he's forced to take reporters with him to the bush and thus Myron's stuck with the whole company instead of just his platoon while storming a bunker. I was in tears while listening to the speech Myron gave at the end, it was so sad. Rusty was a great captain, the best.

Burn, Baby, Burn... where Myron's unit is torn apart by racial hatred. I love that Zeke lets Myron handle the issues this time, he has his back, always, but for the first time, he takes a step back and lets Myron deal with it. I mean, Myron is white, but he's also a Jew, just some twenty short years after WWII, after all. He might not face racial discrimination but he sure as hell knows a lot about religious persecution. And honestly, the scene where Myron dresses down his whole unit - black, white, Hispanic, Asian - when he yells at them to shut it or else, it's quite glorious. It's a thing of beauty to watch him grow into his position as a team leader.

Brothers, Fathers and Sons... where Zeke and his two men crash land in a chopper, acquire a baby and a goat and then lose everything. This one is really hard to watch, especially the ending. There are some really funny scenes - like them stealing a goat! - but the ending... Yeah, don't expect a happy end here.

The Good, the Bad and the Dead... where Myron trusts Zeke and allows a washed-out soldier in his unit on his recommendation, only to have that trust broken. This episode has the first real fight, the first huge break between Myron and Zeke since they started trusting each other. And this time, it's Zeke in the wrong. I love the scene where they fight and this happens...

Zeke: Loyalty, you know what that is?
Myron: Yeah, I know what that is. It’s something like trust, isn’t it? Like when I trusted you…

Again, it's awesome to watch Myron be the leader this unit deserves.

War Lover... where Myron's unit is sent to blow up a VC bridge and Zeke meets an old friend, a man whom he now hates so much that he actually blows a fuse and punches the guy. Zeke. Punches a guy. Zeke! And Myron gets so pissed at the both of them, Zeke and his old buddy, that he yells bloody murder, much to the amusement of his unit. I love Myron's sharp-shooting skills in this one.

Sitting Ducks... where an easy assignment turns into a bloodbath and Myron has to put his foot down to force his men to follow his orders. I love the advice Zeke gives to Myron in this ep: his men don't have to like him, they just need to know that he has their backs; Myron does not need to be their friend, he has to be their leader. Yeah, not for nothing does one say that the loneliest place is on top. Luckily, Myron has Zeke's support.

Dislocations... Or the episode where Myron refuses to follow a direct order. For the very first time. And his men actually start liking him, sight unseen! I just love how he's gaining their trust, slowly, by degrees. Like Zeke told him, trust is something you have to earn. I love that the men were set to hate him on principle, he's white, rich and an officer, after all! But it's harder and harder to do so when he's sticking his neck out for them every day!

I particularly loved this exchange:

Myron: Major Rigby is still steamed as hell.
Zeke: What's the matter? The body count's not high enough to make him happy?
Myron: Oh, come on, man. You know officers don't like getting their orders countermanded.
Sarge: Well, some officers make you forget that.

I'm loving how Zeke is starting to really like his LT, not just as a commanding officer who actually listens, but as a person, someone with whom he can joke about stuff, someone he knows will do the right thing when push comes to shove.

I became terribly obsessed with this show again! Suddenly, unexpectedly. Wham, and I needed to see it again. So, I started watching it from the beginning. Good grief, I love Zeke and Myron and their devotion to each other so very, very much! I mean, I know that there's a ton of other characters on Team Viking but these two are the main reason why I'm still smitten with the show, 25 years after it aired!

Pilot... Or the episode where Sarge meets his new LT and their first meeting is a disaster. Luckily, LT is a fast learner and by the end of the episode, Sarge says the fateful words, "I found myself a lieutenant I like!"

Notes from the Underground... Or the episode where the LT and his Sarge go tunnel hunting after Taylor is taken by the Vietcong. And they bond warmly after the LT saves the Sarge's life with some impromptu mouth-to-mouth when the Sarge gets caught in a cave-in. Nice! VERY nice!

You know, I usually don't go for the kinky stories first, but there are some that I simply adore. And that's because they're not only about sex - although the sex is hot, let me tell you - but the stories themselves are well done and angsty for my favorite character (of course :P).

NCIS:
SLASH/HET --> "Applied Psychology" by Rebecca - Gibbs/Abby/Tony threesome with BDSM and D/s flavor. This is hands down my favorite NCIS story. I love to see Tony hurt and here he hurts a lot. Not physically but mentally. In this story Gibbs and Abby are together and they invite Tony to join them. But even though Tony enjoys kink, he is very reluctant because in the past, he made a really horrible experience with a bad Mistress. Gibbs and Tony have to "cure" him now :)

Tour of Duty:
SLASH --> "Fate's Bitch" by [livejournal.com profile] creedcascade and TJ (I didn't link directly to the story because there is a clicky "consent" window asking you to confirm that you know what you are doing being there :D). Zeke/Johnny/Myron threesome. This is a very long story - and by very long I mean very long story - that shows how the relationship between the guys develops from the Nam to them returning back to the US. What I love about this threesome is that there is no "equal" love between them. Zeke loves Myron best and Johnny knows it and accepts it. Though it doesn't mean that Zeke doesn't love Johnny because where Zeke and Myron share the perfect love, Zeke and Johnny share the perfect sex because Myron - who is rather emotionally unstable in this story - isn't all that gung-ho about any sex whatsoever. Sure, he enjoys it but he doesn't crave the kink like the other two do. So it's the perfectly functional dysfunctional threesome :) And it doesn't hurt either that Myron goes through the wringer over and over and over again. Yes, I'm a sucker for h/c :D My most favorite story/series in this fandom. Definitely!
