So, I went to see Spectre. Blah. What a predictable mess. No wonder Daniel Craig was so sarcastic and biting in his interviews, especially when asked about his female co-stars. All the female characters were useless, fuckable bimbos, damsels in distress and nothing more. No female character actually did anything of importance to the plot, not even Moneypenny's involvement was more than a passing thing. In the middle, I had to go to the toilet and didn't even rush back like I usually do, knowing exactly what would happen - when I came back, I was all, "Look, he fucked her, what a SURPRISE! Not." Blah.

If you want to see a good spy movie, watch Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation and see Ilsa Faust kick major ass while NOT spreading his legs for Ethan Hunt.

Pardon my language but that sexist mess annoyed the hell out of me!

Not bad. But after Skyfall, I'm not too excited for it. I was one of the few who didn't like Skyfall - all the women needed a brain surgery in it, IMO, and I especially disliked the always smugly grinning Miss Moneypenny - so my expectations are very low. I'm most curious about how the friendship between Bond and Q will develop. But I'm still looking forward to The Man from UNCLE much, much more, TBH.

Skyfall

Well. It was a good movie - but it really didn't live up to the hype, IMHO. I feel about Skyfall the way I felt about Looper - good stuff but I expected more.

Spoilers! )

So yeah, I would rate it 6/10. I expected much more from a Bond movie.

I didn't like Quantum of Solace as much as Casino Royale. Maybe it was the weird camera angles, maybe how fake the hotel in the desert looked. There was just something sligtly off about it. I don't know *hands*

What I did like was Olga Kurylenko as Camille. I loved how strong yet vulnerable she was. Female characters don't have to lose all their femininity to be strong, they don't have to be men with breasts to be capable. And Camille was fantastic. I loved how determined she was.

I didn't even know/remember that Gemma Arterton was in this movie! I loved Fields. And I felt so sorry for her, the way she was killed was horrible. And I cheered for Bond because of how he took his revenge. That was so twisted and cruel yet so very, very right!

I loved the friendship between Bond and Felix. Felix should get a movie of his own, definitely. I love it when agents in the field don't care about what the higher-uppers say or want, they go at things their own way. I loved that Felix decided to help Bond regardless of that annoying prick of his boss wanted.

Stana Katic! With her hair still short! Her part was so tiny yet she made such an impact on me. I actually loved all the women in this movie, not one of them was a bitch - writers do tend to forget that strong =/= arrogant and bitchy.

And now I can't wait for Skyfall!

I plan to go and see Skyfall this weekend with the twins so a James Bond re-watch was due...

First, I have to say that Daniel Craig's my favorite Bond so far. He feels REAL, not smarmy or arrogant like Pierce Brosnan's. Craig and Timothy Dalton are the best Bonds, IMHO. You actually believe that these two could kick you in the kisser and look smooth doing it.

Although I'm a big action fan, my favorite scene is the casino bit in Montenegro, Bond and Le Chiffre going at it in poker. I know zip about the game, not the rules or anything else. But the suspense is killing me every time I watch the scene, it's down to Daniel Craig and Mads Mikkelsen and the intensity between them. IMHO, Le Chiffre is one of Bond's best villains.

The bit with Vesper was quite touching and I'm glad that it was continued in Quantum of Solace, that THIS Bond isn't boinking everything female in sight. The emotional impact is much bigger that way.

Quantum of Solace tomorrow!

HuffingtonPost posted an article titled "James Bond Bisexual: Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem On Alleged Homoerotic 'Skyfall' Scene": link. Hm.

Honestly, I don't understand why they would think BOND was bisexual, especially in the context of the scene they described - spoilers! ) - how does that make BOND bi? *scratches head* I would say it makes SILVA, Bardem's character, the bi one. But that would maybe not sound as sensational? *hands* Though I loved what Daniel Craig said about it:

Describing the scene as "a great flirt" and "a game of cards," the actor says, "Someone suggested that Silva may be gay. And I'm like, I think he'll f*** anything."

Craig, who says that he "loves the scene," adds, "I don't see the world in sexual divisions."

And this, THIS is why Daniel Craig's the perfect Bond for me. As he proved in Love Is the Devil: Study for a Portrait of Francis Bacon, he isn't afraid to play a gay or go full frontal and I think this willingness to take risks and just "go there" is what makes him the perfect Bond, not just a clean cut suit wearer like Pierce Brosnan - yeah, didn't like Brosnan as Bond, he felt sleazy to me, icky!

Man, I can't wait for the movie. And if the fandom picks up Bond/Q and runs with it, I'll be more than happy to oblige and hop on the bandwagon ;)

ETA: Another article actually mentions why Bond is/might be bisexual: link. Looks like the HP one was simply badly written! And considering Craig mentioned he wanted to update Bond and play him as bi, I guess he's getting his wish! \o/ Thank you so much for the link, [livejournal.com profile] sharona1x2!

I love the Bond movies and Daniel Craig's my favorite Bond so far but the real reason why I'm looking forward to Skyfall is Q! "I'm your new quartermaster." That made me all kinds of giddy. And would you believe that some people are already entertaining slashy thoughts about Q and Bond? LOL. Only fandom :P
