Jason Momoa got the part of Conan the Barbarian!

I hear that Millennium Films, Lionsgate, and rights holder Paradox Entertainment have approved Jason Momoa to star in Conan, the rebirth of the Robert E. Howard-created series. The brawny star of Stargate Atlantis who also stars in HBO's Game of Thrones, Momoa got the nod over Kellan Lutz, the Twilight guy. I told you that the search for Conan had come down to the duo. Sources said that director Marcus Nispel was sold on Momoa, and won over the filmmakers by shooting a few trial scenes that allowed Momoa to wield a sword and behave very Schwarzenegger-like. This keeps the film on course for a March 15 production start in Bulgaria, and it closes a long ordeal in bringing the saga back to the screen. Link

This makes me so, so happy! I just love to watch Jason swing a sword and fight, there's this grace in him and just fascinates!

I think I should read some Conan books now, shouldn't I? Eeeee!!!

I can't decide whether to be happy or worried for him. On the one hand, it's an already existing franchise and a lead role, so good for him, but on the other hand, it's a fairly cheesy franchise, and if it the movie does well, there's a risk that he'll be typecast as "big strong barbarian" for the rest of his career. But he's still getting work, and that's what's important.

Well, as he was starting SGA, he did say that it was actually rather hard to get a job being all tattooed and having dreads. On the other hand, if he shaved and went all nice, he would be type cast as a "lover boy" in romantic movies because, well, he really is that pretty ;) I think it's easier to move out of the "fighter" category than out of the "pretty airhead" category.

I'm just glad that he's out there, that he's getting roles in bigger and bigger projects. This could be a huge opportunity for him, making him well-known outside of the TV world.

I bet that he will be awesome! I never saw Conan as Schwarzenegger. Arnie was way over the top, almost cartoonish with his brawn. Jason has the right amount of brawn and agility.

well since I grew up with the comics I see Conan that way - my mind dosn't go to Arnold althoug I will give him props for sliming down and lossing all that brawn for the begining of the movie.

I think Jason will do very well in the part. Allthough I will worry a bit abotu type casting that he will end up 'that big guy'

Well, damn! That is cool I think he'll be a great Conan. Yes, I have watched the movies but I have been reading the books for much longer and yep it is sword and sorcery, blood and thunder from the 30s and 40s. You ought to read them you'll enjoy them.

I'm glad that they didn't choose an over-the-top brawny actor again this time. Nothing against Arnie but I hope that the days of brawn-not-brain Hollywood heroes are over. I think that Jason Momoa actually fits the picture of a barbarian warrior much better.
