I just came across an article about a new Stargate show: Stargate Universe. I know that it's old news by now, not for me though ;P
"The idea of Stargate Universe is that it is set on a ship that was part of an Ancient experiment that was set in motion probably millions of years ago -- one that they never saw to fruition, but that we can," Wright told GateWorld exclusively. "They got busy with the whole ascension thing."
The experiment is "to send a ship across the universe, and to send one ahead of it to seed the galaxies with Stargates, and that they would one day use the ninth chevron to get there [to the ship]. And that's what Stargate Universe is."

I think that it sounds awesome! I see people complaining about how Star-Trek-ish this idea is. Yes, they didn't even see it yet and they already know that it's crap *rolls eyes* Anywayz! In my opinion, it'll be great. But mostly, it'll depend on how likable the new team will be. The whole idea is very new in the SG franchise so I hope that they'll keep the standard team - one military leader, one scientist and assorted aliens and/or other specialists. I watched SG-1 for the awesome bickering between Jack and Daniel and now I watch SG:A for the same ranty ship between John and Rodney. As long as they keep this pattern, I will be a happy camper. Though it looks like they will wait with this series until Atlantis concludes its run - which I hope will take many many more years! I can't believe how much in love I'm with this show *bounces*

Oh, and since I'm already talking about how awesome Atlantis is. I watched the episode Lost Boys and listened to the commentary by Martin Gero, David Hewlett and Joe Flanigan. There was the scene in the field, where McKay stomps away, refusing to repair the dart and Sheppard goes after him to convince him to do it after all... Martin Gero, the writer, commented on the great chemistry that David and Joe have on-screen, on the warmth they radiate together. David and Joe were rather embarrassed XD

In Plain Sight starts tonight! \o/ I can't wait for that. I hope that it'll be similar to Psych: humorous but with interesting cases. USA Network is doing more and more character driven shows which is awesome in my opinion! TV critics are pretty excited too that at least someone is trying new stuff and not just mainstream over and over again :)

Wasn`t Hulk!McKay adorable. "Don`t mess with a genius". Hee.

Also the scene where they are all in the prison cell and everybody smuggled in a knife but Sheppard, our great Black Ops warrior. Teehee.

Also, I had not heard about this new Stargate show either and I think it sounds interesting. So what if the space-ship-idea is more Trek-ish, for Stargate it`s something new. What are they supposed to do, find yet another galaxy where humans release the Superenemy and have thus to make it right?
But I agree, it will depend on the team.

I adored the scene in the prison, how protective Ronon was of Sheppard. I think that they have a great relationship. I mean, if Ronon wanted, he would take Sheppard down with one hand tied behind his back but he still follows Sheppard. It's a really intriguing relationship - deference and protectivness...

And I agree. I mean, people diss the new idea because it takes place on a ship. For christ's sake, it's a sci-fi show! Just because it's Stargate, it does not have to be based on a planet of some sort. I think it's new and fresh :) I just hope that they won't try to make it "different" by changing the team dynamics like they did in Star Trek - first the captain was a guy, then a black guy, then a woman... *rolls eyes* To avoid stereotypes, they slipped to stereotypes.

Yeah, the way he stood up to Ford "if he dies, you die". Kinda was unexpected to me because Ronon hasn`t been there that long but he has really taken to the team.

I didn`t mind that so much, I mean in the end they always had a multi-kulti-group with at least one member trying to find their humanity, a skirt-chaser, someone with spiritual beliefs etc.

So I expect any new Stargate team to have one warrior, one peacenik/scientist so they can quarrel with the warrior and the "alien" character to guide them through uncharted territories.

I didn`t mind that so much, ...

I didn't really mind that much either but it was obvious that they made the captain the gender/skin color that was "in" during that time. And anyway, I watched DS:9 because of Bashir and ST:V because of Chakotey XD

What's funny is the fact that as similar as the ship between Sheppard and McKay is to the one Jack and Daniel had, it's also completely different. And that's what I adore. It's not just a clone of something that was there once already. But I'm not sure if a relationship like that would work between a man or a woman because in the end, it would always slip to "you're a woman" vs. "you're a male chauvinist"... On SG-1, Jack and Sam bickered but there was always this "sexual tension" hinted at and it was never as funny as watching Jack and Daniel together :D

True dat.

Heh, dito for DS:9 but for me it was Paris for ST:V. :)

And it would most likely end with the man being "put in his place" and emasculated because god forbid the woman isn`t shown as "kick-ass" aka bitchy and obnoxious at all times. Apparently for a woman nice and human is also weak. Whatever.

Politically correct or not, I prefer male-male dynamics because with males the writers don`t fall into the trap of overselling and thus making them annoying so damn much.
If they figured it out with females too, it would be gravvy.

Would you believe that I never liked Paris much? O.o I adored Chakotay (I like Robert Beltran very much) and especially his relationship with Seven. They were so different that it worked perfectly, at least for me :)

And it would most likely end with the man being "put in his place".

Exactly! That's what I always fear when they describe a new female character as "kick-ass" or "independent" or whatever. I don't mind when female charas mount off but only if they can take as much as they give - when the bickering between a man and a woman is on equal terms. She makes him look like an idiot, he makes her look like an idiot. When it's smart and not just her showing him his place and he meekly agreeing X(

Ts ts. :-p I didn`t dislike Chakotay, just didn`t have much of an opinion on him since the writers never bothered to do much with the character.

Him and Seven though, that came too much out of left field for me because again the writers didn`t bother to set it up in any way until they sprang it on viewers.

When it's smart and not just her showing him his place and he meekly agreeing X(

Quickest way to get me to identify with the guy aka the underdog and hate the chick.

I watched the 'In Plain Sight' premier - I liked it, but it was a LOT to pack into one ep. Although, all pilots are kinda like that. I hope it stays good!

I was rather underwhelmed with the pilot, to be honest. It felt like they cut all the good parts into the promo. The rest was... too slow. But I will try ep 2, maybe the second ep will be better.
