Star Trek: Deep Space 9 fic rec!

SLASH: Garak/Julian --> "Literacy" by The Hoyden. Summary: "You want me to read to you?" Julian repeated, somewhat taken aback. Words: 5.000+.

And there's a podfic version by twilight!

I love the Garak/Julian slash. They are my favorite pairing in the ST:DS9 fandom, actually the only pairing that I read about! I know that there used to be a whole archive for this pairing but I lost the link *pouts*

I love the Garak/Julian slash.

Shun the inappropriate pairing name! ;-) I used to follow Trek fanfic, and they had an 'alphabet soup' of pairing codes--in the case of Elim Garak and Julian Bashir, it's DS9 G/B. Garak/Bashir still remains one of my favorite Trek pairings. I think the way Andrew Robinson incorporated his past role of Liberace into Garak that aided with the slashability. Plus, I remember one DS9 Pocketbooks novel had this scene of Garak flirting with Bashir. It's so inherent in his character to be included in a general audience story. {g}

Hehe, I know that fandoms usually have nicknames for pairings - McShep, Tiva or GW's 1+2 - but I only tend to remember them when I'm actually a part of the fandom :P

Tell me more about the books! Did you read any? I think that Julian really did swing both ways in the show. I mean, he pined after Dax, but the scene where he admitted to Miles that he preferred spending time with him had me in stitches!

If I remember it correctly, they totally dialed down the G/B scenes later on, didn't they? Were they too afraid of the obvious slash?

And do you know of any good G/B stories or archives? I lost my links when my old computer went ka-boom :(

GW's numerical pairings have always amused me, and I've never been into the fandom. {g}

As to DS9 books, this was when I stopped reading books, in favor of reading online porn. :-) I think I may have read one DS9 book, _Bloodletter_, but it was 'blah' versus my enjoying Trek:TNG's audiobook version of _Imzadi_, which was read by Jonathan Frakes. I also agree Julian was bisexual, very much a 'horn dog'. {g} Then to pair him up with the flirtatious antics of Garak was classic! However, as you mentioned, while DS9 did have a canon 'lesbian' (symbiont attraction/history with Dax) kiss, they avoided 'teh ghey' by bringing in a young actress to play Ziyal, a female half Cardassian/half Bajoran, which then made Garak look like a pedophile, so then they replaced Ziyal with two [older] actresses.

I used to assist with the ASC* archive. Their G/B section is at http://trekiverse.us/ds9/G--B--1.html ...and Stephen frequently misspells, hence, 'Garek'. A f-lister has http://members.tripod.com/~GBLvr/fic.html and one of the most highly recommended G/B stories (novel-length too) is "Converse Symmetry" with a beta/credits list that reads as a 'who's who of BNFdom in G/B'.

Back to 'mainstream' books, there's http://www.modnet.com.au/~firefrog/ds9book.htm and it has book snippets from a slasher's POV. The book I had in mind was _Proud Helios_. Scroll down to this book's section and the innuendo flies.

Editing to add: While I enjoyed the original series as a kid in the 1980s, I only stuck around in the online Trek fandom in the late 90s (97-99/00), and my info on fic recs is *very* outdated.

Oh, man. Was the archive Cardassia Sutra? I used to eat, sleep and breathe that pairing. ;)

I'm not sure what it was called but there were tons of fics saved mostly in .txt format. Garak and Julian... They were awesome. Julian was plenty interesting from the beginning and when they used the enhancement thingy from his past... \o/ I loved the scene where he played darts with Miles and revealed to him just how good he really was - and Miles made him stand waaaaaay back to even their chances :P
