After watching the premiere of Amanda Tapping's new series Sanctuary, I have to say that it boils down to the fact that basically, it's a crossover between Poltergeist: The Legacy and Torchwood. It's not bad but it's also not riveting. It might turn out to be a good show, if you suspend your disbelief a bit. But the most stunning thing? Joel Goldsmith's music. That man is a master! Wow!

Helen's recruitment of Will was so a copy of Daniel Jackson's introduction to the Stargate program. Almost literally a carbon copy. And Dr. Zimmerman is basically Sanctuary's Daniel, blond hair, glasses and his past included. I fear that if they don't introduce a Will-specific quirk soon, the similarity might turn out to be, in long term, too much.

I loved all the quest stars! Kavan Smith aka SGA's Maj. Lorne! Can we keep him? Chris Heyerdahl aka SGA's Halling and Todd the Wraith! That man has to add some weight though. He looked like a cancer patient, all gaunt.

The main characters... Well, Helen Magnus aka Amanda Tapping is interesting. The whole embryo thing was a bit of a dancing on the edge of jumping the shark though. The jury is still out on Ashley. Will is... a bit bland, more spunk is needed. Henry... Heh, Henry is basically this show's McKay, just a bit mellower - and yay if it isn't Ryan Robbins aka SGA's Ladon Radim!

I hope that they keep up the tendency of bringing over SGA's stars and guest stars. That would be awesome!

So yeah, I will be downloading and watching next week too, although I wasn't really floored by the show. But it does have its own specific... atmosphere.

Well I think their backstory differs enough, like only Will's mother was killed and by a supernatural being (Dan's parents were by an exibit falling down on him) and he was ridiculed because of that theory because he was like nine. From what I remember on the show is that Will stopped believing in supernatural and turned to forensic psychology to explain his behavior away (he's gifted with deduction you could say and why nobody believes him is beyond me since his skills solve cases- on another side note I really really hate it when police on tv. shows put down psychology in helping solve cases, you'd think by now someone would realize that their 'intuition' etc is pretty much a rough form of psychology-) Daniel on the other hand was already started on a career path in archeology via his parents. Helen hired Will because a) she'd rescued him before and b) he had gone into a field that would help her cause. Daniel got hired because he knew how to work the Stargate or at least was the person to figure it out. And he kinda looks like Weasley from Angel/Buffy as well so there's that. :)

Oh a cool thing is that in the first webisode of it David Hewlett had a role.
