The Middleman and SGA
Jun. 26th, 2008 09:10 pmI finally watched last week's premiere of the new show The Middleman. TV.com says about this series: "Wendy Watson is recruited by The Middleman as his protégée. The Middleman, a milk-guzzling comic-book-like superhero, protects humanity from the supernatural forces that lurk in the shadows." It's based on Javier Grillo-Marxuach's series of graphic novels.
This series is a hoot. There isn't one serious thing about it. Comic book heroes and villains, an unflippable heroine, a rather dense hero... It's comedy pure. Wendy Watson reminds me a lot of Daria, the heroine of the famous animated series. She looks like Daria, she talks like Daria and nothing can surprise her. The Middleman himself is like Benton Frazer on crack, really. And since my icon was taken from the show itself, I think that you can guess its... tone XP
So, I can say that this series is not for everybody but people who like Chuck or Psych, crazy funny stories, might like it. The pilot was good enough for me to give The Middleman a try :)
And I also watched SGA's episode The Real World. I think that it's pretty much obvious that they wanted to make a) a very cheap episode (there are almost no special effects) and b) give Elizabeth/Tori Higginson something to do. On the other hand, they knew to spice it with Jack O'Neill to keep even those people who found the plot boring in front of the TV.
I liked the ep, though. It wasn't mind-blowing per se but it was more horror-like than any of the previous episodes and very intense in its own way. This plot-horse of twisted reality has been beaten to death but I like their take on it. And I love John in this ep - yeah, what else is new, I know XP
