LJ is now censoring interests too. They omit interests like bisexuality, yaoi, fanfiction, boys or girls in their official charts... I wonder if there even is a rock bottom for them to hit *shakes head*

Thank you for the heads-up, [livejournal.com profile] klingonpoo luv!

Fanfics!

due South:
SLASH --> "The Curse of the Great Dawson Double-Douglas Fir Telescoping Bank Shot" by tara r. Fraser and RayK are friends and they live together in Canada. And everything is just peachy. But then a film crew shows up to film a documentary about the life in Yukon. And a dangerous criminal escapes. Great fic!

Supernatural:
GEN --> "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" by [livejournal.com profile] namegoeshere. He comes into the world naked and blind, crawling in the dirt. Dean gets out of Hell. And he's sick and desperately searching for Sam.

GEN --> "By Taking Our Time" by [livejournal.com profile] antiship. After what happened in the Djinn's world, Dean doesn't cope well. Sam listens.

GEN --> "Anywhere But Where We Are" by [livejournal.com profile] ficwriter1966. After Sam rescues Dean from the Djinn, they return back to their motel room. Dean is exhausted, Sam worries.

GEN --> "Still Here, Still Me" by K. Hanna Korossy. BUaBS coda. What happened after Sam and Dean left Bobby's place.

GEN --> "Someone Else's Debts" by K. Hanna Korossy. BUaBS coda. Sam decides to take a blood test. This fic really got me. I never thought about that!

They've only taken them out of the Most Popular Interests. It's not like you can't search for them from your profile page.

I think people are blowing this way out of proportion.

And why did they take them out? They are among the most popular interests. Why hide them? Because they can't simply delete them without causing an uproar? This is a pretty weird policy - if we don't see them, they are not there. No matter how I look at it, that's lying. Why make a list of the most popular interests when they list only those that suit them? They should either do it right or not do it all. They ridicule themselves.

Fanfic more popular than movies and music? I don't think so. LJ has a lot more than fandom people in it. There aren't even many people who list 'fanfiction' in their interests. Most of the fanfic comms I'm in don't even list it.

I don't claim to know why they did it. I highly doubt they thought they'd slip something by, given how often it's been proved people would find out.

What amuses me is that the main people spouting off about this are people who have moved to InsaneJournal. What do they care what happens here? Oh yeah, they want fandom to move where THEY are. Self serving much?

Until LJ makes a statement, I'm not going to jump to any conclusions.

Did you take a look at the list they put together? The list with interests from year before compared to the present list? Fanfiction was not more popular than movies but it was definitely more popular than god or beer. In the present list, there isn't any interest that has anything to with sex in general.

And until LJ makes a statement? Good luck with that. If users don't force them comment on what's going on, everything is just peachy, according to them.

That says to me that they aren't just out to get fanfic.

Thinking back over the last five years, I can't think of anything I can't do in my LJ now that I used to do. For all the changes LJ has gone through, nothing has adversely affected me. I personally have nothing to complain about.

Yes, I personally have nothing to complain about either. But I'm getting sick of them doing major changes without telling their own users so most of them have to learn from others what's going on instead from the very source that should be informing us in the first place.

I think we should agree on disagreeing here. You trust LJ. I don't. Not after all the mess-up they caused in just the last year or so - deleting LJs, deleting comms etc. etc.

I think I see things differently from most people because I've always seen LJ as a business, and that's how many businesses work. I recently had a change at work that will cost me thousands of dollars in compensation, if I ever get laid off. It was a business decision to benefit the stockholders, but it screws over long term employees like me. We had absolutely no say in it at all.

It's not so much that I trust LJ. I just don't think what I want counts for anything. ^_____^

Btw, thank you so much for being so rational about all this. You should see some of the other posts on my flist.

Hehe, I think that you are the first person ever to call me rational ;P

I mean, I do understand for example why they got rid of the basic accounts - I never understood how they could make profit with them anyway - I'm just angry that they never tell us anything which causes major wanks.

And I think that I'm just really touchy about banning/hiding/whatever homosexual and sexual themes in general *sigh*

I would be surprised if they even reacted to that. For them, as long as they don't respond, nothing's actually happening :(

They removed the filter and all the special interests are back. Yay!

The posts continue. The replies are now up over 60 pages. There is an interesting post by [livejournal.com profile] rm on page 58, dated 2008-03-17 07:43pm. You might find it interesting. It relates to the filters. I haven't read all of it yet.

I think this link will take you there directly:

They really need to make some type of official statement.

Thank you for the link, luv! I'm curious if they will address this problem in their next announcement.
