Some more TV musing...

So, last night, the CW aired new episodes of their reality show Crowned and the new teeny soap opera Gossip Girl (I heard that the books are better than the show but I didn't read them and neither did I see the show, yet). But why am I talking about it? Neither of them drew in more than 1.8 mil. viewers. With new eps. And no real competition on a Wednesday night. That's like 1 mil. less than the week before. I mean, huh? What's going on? Didn't the CW promote them enough? I have no idea, I'm just curious... Last week, it was Smallville, now these series... The only CW show that got its usual numbers for a new episode was Supernatural.
Apparently, the new episodes of Torchwood will start airing on Jan. 26th in the US, only 10 days after their premiere in the UK. The BBC is obviously milking their best show for what's worth it :D I wanted to buy it on DVD, but sorry, as much as I love the show, 13-ep-series isn't worth 40 pounds or 55 bucks. No way, nuh uh :(

Date: 2007-12-20 08:54 pm (UTC)Which proves the idiocy of the whole CW business concept of targeting the teen market. Those people have drastically changed their viewing habits, you doofuses. That worked 10 years ago in the WB glory days but not anymore.
Well, considering Warner Brothers seems to be the golden looking company right now, even looking to buy of CBS and they produce Supernatural so they get all the money of international sales, DVDs and merchandise.
Smallville is too old to make lots of money of it and Reaper doesn`t yet have proven its capability to do so. So there is a better chance for Supernatural in the case of the whole CW crumbling than for the other shows. Warner could look to sell it to cable or whatnot to keep the little money-machine going.

Date: 2007-12-20 09:11 pm (UTC)TV Guide's reporters (like Matt Roush? Rush? argh!) suspect that Reaper won't survive the strike because the main story is not interesting enough to keep the show going and the ratings keep dropping, week by week. But well, it's the CW whose motto is "cancel the good stuff, keep the trash".
On the one hand, it makes me happy because compared to that, SPN really does look like a major HIT but on the other hand, the CW could land itself in major troubles with these low ratings.

They don`t have one single project in development. Also they can`t even fill all nights as it is at the moment.
Their reality shows are either fading or bombing so going heavy reality won`t be an option either.
If they cancel one more, they won`t have a schedule to speak of.

Date: 2007-12-20 09:31 pm (UTC)*grins* well you can always wait and do what I did. Once a year DeepDiscount has a giant sale, half off, on one order (and you can have like ten dvds or whatever in that order) and that's how I came to own series 1&2 of the New Who.
So there's always that.
