Visually stunning spectacle with little substance. The CGI was amazing. Top notch. The effects felt so real, it was UNreal. Rarely have I seen such original creations, like these planets, ships, technology. Truly wonderful and worth seeing on the big screen.
But! Yes, the characters are very likable, both Jupiter and Caine. And the story seems intriguing. But in this movie, story telling definitely falls victim to the visual side. There are so many things just hinted at but never drawn to their conclusion. Like, Caine is a half-wolf needing a pack - dropped. Caine bit a Titled person - dropped. Stringer's daughter's sickness - dropped. Harvesting people - dropped. Legion an Aegis - no explanation. The status of the Abraxas family in the universe - unexplained. Jupiter's inheritance - left open...
Which brings me to the ending: she's still scrubbing toilets? Why? She's a queen, she actually has a corporation to run, one that she inherited. She OWNS planets that need guidance. And she drops all that to return home and scrub toilets? Does she plan on doing that till the end of her life? To keep Caine a secret? To let the corporation harvest people on other planets? What?
So yeah, I was a bit disappointed. It reminded me of 47 Ronins: a visual feast that left me feeling unsatisfied because it squandered its potential.
